THIS valuable preparation combines all the
medicinal virtues of those articles, Avhich long

and efficient alterative and deobstruent properties

and Liver Complaint, Nervous Diseases, Dropsical :
Swellings. Constitutional Disorders and diseases ori- ;
Snating from a depraved or Impure state of the i
food or other fluids of the body.
1 he proprietor of this Alterative would most re
tspectlully assure the public that he has not offered 1
this preparation to their notice without due reflec
tion, and close and rigid study, nor until after
swelve years’ experience had manifested its great
superiority over every other article of the kind,—
bnd he now recommends it with confidence, fully
elieving that the above combination of medicines
will effectually eradicate from the system a class
of diseases some of which have heretofore been con
sidered incurable.
He has prescribed it in almost every variety of
diseases and with unparalleled success, especially
in cutaneous affections, cancerous, scrofulous and
scorbutic diseases, and diseases originating from
obstruction or enlargement of the glands or impuri
ty of the blood. 1
Cancer and 'Cancerous Tumors.
He has used this preparation in upwards of twen- i
ty well defined cases of cancer and cancerous tu- t
mors, and in every case but one with perfect and
entire success.
Bronchocele or Goitre, (Swelled Neck.)
He has prescribed it in over a hundred cases of
goitre, and it has never failed in a single instance to
completely remove the disease. Not a solitary
case of failure. All were cured.
The success he has met with in curing broncho
cele and cancerous affections has convinced him
that these dangerous and horrible diseases may be
removed with as much certainly as Fever and j
Ague. He does not wish to be understood as say- 1
ing that they can be cured as soon as Fever ai’xd ,
Ague, but with as much certainty; and further, that i
he has good reason for believing that this prepara- I
tion will not only cure these diseases when formed, ;
but that it destroys the virus or poisonous principle '
lurking in the system, from which that peculiar j
class of diseases, as well as that of scrofula emanate, !
Scrofula—Xing’s Evil.
This preparation has been used in numerous
cases of scrofula, King’s Evil, and scrofulous swell
ings, and always with the most decided success.
Skin Diseases.
He has prescribed it in a great variety of cutane
ous affections, and found it successful in curing salt
rheum or tetter, biles, blotches, pimples, morphew
and jaundiced skin, Ac.
Dyspepsia and Liver Complaint.
It has been used in numerous cases of liver com
plaint and Dyspepsia, and with the happiest effect.
Tic-D ouloureux.
It has been used in several cases of Neuralgia,
aad in every else it was successful.
Rheumatism.
Tim preparation has been prescribed in a great
many cases of chronic rheumatism, and in every
case in which it was used until the system became
affected by the medicine, the disease was removed.
Gout.
A number of cases of gout have been cured by
this preparation. In one of these cases, the man
had been afflicted with it so severely for thirteen
years as to entirely disable him from business, and
for five months immediately previous to his taking
the Alterative he had been confined to his room;
but before he had finished the third bottle, he was
enabled to walk about the streets and soon after re
turned to his business, from which he had so long
been excluded by his affliction.
Dropsical Swellings,
This medicine increases the powers of digestion
excites the itbaui bents into healthy exorcise, by
which watery or calcareous depositions, and all un
natural enlargements are reduced. It imparts
tone and vitality to the whole system, removing
sick and morbid headaches, giddiness, wandering
pains and nervous affections.
In fact, in every case where the medicine has
been taken for some time, no matter for what pur
pose, the general health of the patient has always
been improved by it.
In conclusion, the proprietor would say that some
of the most astonishing cases of skin diseases, can
cer, bronchocele, and scrofula, have been cured by
this medicine, that have ever been recorded; blit
want of room in this sheet precludes their publica
tion at this time.
Cancer.
An interesting case cured by Jayne's Alterative.
In the spring of 1831, a cancerous tumor appear
ed in the rigrht breast of Mrs. Phcebe, wife of Peter
Stretch, of Salem N. J. It was examined by many
Physicians, and was considered by ali as cancerous,
and besides bore all the characteristic marks of
one. All probable means of removing it were used
without the slightest benefit. It continued to in
crease both in size and painfulness, until all hope
of saving her life, but by a painful operation, was
abandoned, which, after a consultation of eminent
Physicians, was performed, Jan. Ist, 1832, by Dr,
John Rhea Barton, assisted by Dr. Redman, the
proprietor, a«d two other medical gentlemen. The
whole and entire right breast was removed, and af
ter examination of the tumor, was pronounced by
all present a Cancer Os tbe most malignant charac
ter. In about three months, after enduring incredi
ble sufferings, she was enabled, though broken in
spirit, to get about agoiu. She remained feeble,
and her general health was exceedingly bad, as in
deed it had been for several years before. In the
spring of 1337, upwards of live years after her breast,
had been removed, a painful tumor made its ap
pearance on the right side, immediately over the:
Eart formerly occupied by the nipple of tbe right
reast, previous to its removal. 'Phis tumor steadi
ly increased for several months, and became so
Sainful as to deprive her of rest. The glands un
er the right arm were enlarged; and scirrhus, and
ahard, irregular, and at times painful tumour, ap
peared in the left breast. No operation could now
arrest the disease. Indeed her whole body appear
td to be a mass of disease. Her case was consid
ered hopeless. She was of a very scrofulous habit ,
eoth her parents having died of Pulmonary con
bumption. The experiment was now made with
phis .Alterative. It was at first given jn small doses,
three times a day, and the doses very gradually,
but steadily increased daily, as long as she took it,
which was about six months, and the skin over and
around the tumour was wet night and morning with
a strong solution of lodine and Hydriodate Potash.
The tumour continued increasing in size for about
six weeks, and Was at times very painful, when the
pain suddenly ceased altogether, and the tumour
swelled out at the base, and became soft, and then
began to diminish, and continued gradually decreas
ing until every vestige of disease was removed—-
The tumour in her left breast, and those in her
right exilia were also dispersed. No cancerous or
scrofulous tumours ever appeared afterwards; and
her general health, which had been so bad for four
teen years as to make life a burthen, was effectu
ally and permanently restored. The proprietor is
IQ possession of the diseased breast, and those who
choose may examine it. He tfrould also say that
he could mention over a dozen cases equally inter
esting, wherein his Alterative has subdued cancer
and cancerous tumours, but hs has not room here
to record them.
3lrs. Sarah Young, of Quinton’s Bridge, N. J., had
a goitrous tumour on the left side of her windpipe,
as large as the half of an orange, which was cured
by using this Alterative for about four months.
Miss R S , South Fourth-street, Phila
delphia, was also cured ot an enlargement of the
throat, which filled the entire space between the
chin and breast-bone, and extended around on each
side of her neck to behind her ears, and from her
ears to her shoulders, and produced awful deformi
ty, It commenced growing when she was but five
years old, and continued gradually to increase un
til she was nineteen, at which time she commenced
using this Alterative, which she took for seven
months, which entirely reduced the enlargement!
and she has now as smooth and pretty a neck as can
be found. The proprietor is not at liberty to give
her name in print, but will refer persons to her.

GALVANIC U IN G S AND
Magnetic Fluid.
rpHIS remarkable invention, which has received
JL the almost universal approbation of the Medi
cal Profession of Great Britain, comprises an en
tirely new application of Galvanism, as a remedial
agent, by means of which the ordinary Galvanic
Batteries, Electric and Magnetic Machines, &c..
j arc entirely dispensed with, and the mysterious
powers of Galvanism applied without any of the
objections which are inseparable from the general
mode now in use. The strong doses, and at irreg
| ufar intervals, in which Galvanism is applied by the
i Machines, has been pronounced after a fair and im
i partial trial, to be decidedly injurious, and it was to
| remedy this radical delect, that this new applica
-1 tion was projected, which after unceasing toil and
| perseverance has been brought to its present state
j of perfection. The Cl a Iconic Rings answer ali the
purposes of the most expensive Machines, and in
many other respects are more safe and certain in
accomplishing the desired effect.
The Galvanic Rings, used in connection with the
Magnetic Fluid, are confidently recommended in
all disorders which arise from an enfeebled or wi
healthy stale of the nervous or vital system, and those
complaints are among tbe most painful and univer
sal to which we are subject. They arise, without
exception, to one single cause—a derangement of
the Nervous system —and it was in these cases that
other “remedies 7 ’ having so often failed, a new
agent was greatly needed, which it is confidently
believed, has been found in the proper and judi
cious application of Galvanism.
The Galvanic Rings have been used with entire
success in all cases of Rheumatism, acute or chronic,
applying to the head, face or limbs: Gout, Tic-
Doloreux, Toothache, Bronchitis, Vertigo, Nervous
■or Sick Headache, Indigestion, Paralyses, Palsy ,
Epilepsy, Fits, Cramp, Palpitation of the Heart, Ap
poplexy, Stiffness of Joints, Spinal Complahds, Lum
bago, Neuralgia, Nem'ovs Tremors, Dizziness of the
Head, Pains in t!f Chest and Side, General Debil
ity, Deficiency of Nervous and Physical Energy, and
all Nervous Disorders. In cases of confirmed Dys
pepsia, which is simply a nervous derangement of
the digestive organs, they have been found equally
successful. Their extraordinary effects Upon the
! system must be witnessed to be believed, and as a
« certain Preventive for the preceding complaints
j they are equally recommended. The Rings are of
1 different prices, being made of all sizes, and of va
i rious ornamental patterns, and can be worn by the
; most delicate female without the slightest incon
f venience. In fact the sensation is rather agreea-
I ble than otherwise.
The Galvanic Belts, Bracelets, Bands,
Gaiters, Necklaces, &c.
In some cares of a very severe character and of
long standing the power as applied by the Galvanic
Rings is not sufficient to arrest the progress of dis
ease -and ultimately to restore health. The improv
ed modification in the Galvanic Belts, Bracelets,
fyc., entirely remedies this objection ; any degree
of power that is required can readily be obtained,
and no complaint which the mysterious agent of
| Galvanism can effect will fail to be permanently re
-1 lieved. These articles are adapted to the waist.arms,
wrists, limbs, ancles, or any part of the body with
perfect convenience. The Galvanic Necklaces, are
used with greater benefit in cases of Bronchitis or
affections of the throat generally ; also in cases of
Nervous Deafness; and with almost uniform success
as a preventive for Apoplexy, Epileptic Fits, and
similar complaints.
CHRISTIE’S MAGNETIC FLUID.
Is issued in connection with the Galvanic Rings,
and all their mndificationSv This composition has
been pronounced by the French Chemists to be
one of the most extraordinary discoveries of mod
ern science. It is believed to possess a remarkable
power of rendering the Nerves sensitive to Galvanic
action, by these means causing a circulation of the
influence at the seat of disease, and thus giving ra
pid and permanent relief. No other composition in
chemistry is known to produce tiie same effect or
to impart a similar property to the nervous system
by means of an outward local application.* The
Magnetic Fluid contains nothing capable of the
slightest injury, its application is agreeable, and it i
is as harmless in its action as it is beneficial in its
result. The combined inventions are in every way '
perl’ootlj- harmless; they are at prices within reach i
of all, and the discoverer only requests a fair trial,
as a test of their surprising efficacy and permanent
benefit.
Christie’s Galvanic Strengthening Plas
ters.
These articles form another valuable application
and the mysterious influence of Galvanism. They
are too important adjuncts to the genuine Galvanic j
Rings and their modifications, acting upon the j
same principle, but having this advantage of more
local application. They are confidently recom
mended as a valuable addition in the speedy Cure
of Rheumatism, acute or chronic ; in ali nervous
complaints, and as a positive remedy in cases of
Pain and Weakness in the Chest or Back, Pain in
the Side, Asthmatic Affections, and in Weakness
or Oppression of the Pulmonary Organs. In Spi
nal Complaints, their effects are of the most decided
character, and they have often been used with
complete success. They are also of the greatest
advantage in Pains and Weakness of the Breast,
and are highly recommended for many of those
complaints to which females are especially liable.
As an effectual means for Strengthening the sys
tem when debilitated by disease or other causes;
as a certain aid in Constitutional Weakness, as a
Preventive for Colds, and In all affections of the
Chest, generally, the Galvanic Strengthening Plas
ter, will be found of great and permanent advantage. |
In a few words, it embraces all the virtues of the
best tonic preparation with the important addition
of the Galvanic influence, which is neither impair
ed or exhausted, while the action continues. These
articles will be found entirely free from those ob
jections which are a constant source of complaint
with the ordinary Plasters in common use.
{JjrThc great celebrity and success of these ar
ticles have caused them to be counterfeited by un
principled persons. To provide against impositions,
Dr. Christie has but one authorized agent in each

Geo., is at the Store of

I DH. JOEL BRANHAM’S LIVER AND
DYSPEPTIC MEDICINE.
IN offering this valuable medicine to the people
of Georgia, for the relief and Cure of many dis
eases incident to a Southern climate, I do not claim
for it infallibility; neither do 1 say it will cure all
diseases. But in Chronic Liver Affections and
Dyspepsia, I can confidently advise and recom
mend its use, from my personal observation and use
of the article in my own practice. This article is
I favorably received wherever it has been used. 1
am allowed to reler to Mr. George Heard of Troup.
Mr. John Warren of Columbus, Mr. McKaflee of
Cobb, Mr. Asbury Hull of Athens, Mr. William D.
Terrell of Putnam, Rev. John E. Dawson of La
grange; to which a great number of names might
be added, who bear their testimony to its value.—
Dr. Henry Branham has used this medicine in his
own case, and has prescribed it to many others,
gives it as his opinion, that it is one of the safest
and most valuable medicines that can be used in
imperfect digestion, liver complaints, constipation
and irregular state of the bowels. It is useful in
billions complaints, to persons recovering from bil
lious fevers, and in sick or nervous head-ache. To
pregnant women, who are subject to costiveness,
this medicine is well suited. In regulating the slate
of the stomach and bowels, and promoting digestion,
I it is particularly useful.

VEGETABLE UNIVERSAL PILLS.
THE startling drawback on nearly all Medicinal
Agents has ever been that in their process of pur
gation and purification, they have also Debilitated
the System.. Hence Purgative Medicines have al
ways been regarded as at best but a Necessary
| Evil ; Patients resorting to them for the relief of
j one disease at the expense of another. To obviate
I this, Physicians have long sought for an Agent that
would at the same time
PURGE PURIFY AND STRENGTHEN.
But their efforts were nearly fruitless, and they
had almost despaired of success when the labors of
science and research, were rewarded by a discov
ery which fully realized the fondest desires bf the
Medical Faculty, and which is justly regarded as
one of the most important Triumphs that Pharmacy
has ever achieved. This important desideratum is
named
Dr. Le Roy’s Vegetable Universal Pills.
Which Purify the Blood, and remove all corrupt
and vitiated humors, and unhealthy accumulations from
the body in a manner never before rivalled, and
which yet produce no weakness or lassitude what
ever, but on the contrary, tone the Stomach, and
invigorate the constitution during the progress of
their operation. Dr. Le P-oy’s Pills, in fact, unite ;
those heretofore irreconcilable, but most desirable 1
qualities, Evacuation and Invieoration, for they are
at the same time a STRENGTHENING PURGA
TIVE, AND A PURIFYING TONIC.
The two paincipai ingredients in Dr. Le Roy’s
Fills are
WILD CHERRY & SARSAPARILLA.
So prepared that each promotes the beneficial es- i
feet of the other, the former strengthening, while j
the latter, through its union with various vegetable
ingredients, evacuates and purifies; thus they su
perinduce no torpidity or lassitude of the the Diges
tive Functions, and hence their operations are at
tended by no Re-action or Subsequent Costiveness.
Dr. Le Roy’s Pills are the most active and search
ing Medicine in existence. They at once attack
tha very root of Diseases, and their action is so
prompt that in an hour or two after they are taken,
the patient is aware of their rrood effects. They
not only operate on the Blood, but also on the chyle,
of which the Blood is formed, and this secures good
blood from the fountain head, moreover, they pro
duce neither nausea, griping or debility, and as a
family medicine they have no rival. Price 25 cts.

They will furnish, also, all other kinds of Ma
chinery used in Factories, including the
SELF-OPERATING MULE,
first introduced into this country by the Mattea
i wan Company, which is a great labor-saving Mas
chine, as will appear by the following;
Butternuts, Sept. 4th, 1843.—0ur Self-Operating
Mules operate to bur entirti satisfaction, producing
yarn of a superior quality, and an increased quan
tity over the Hand Mules, and at a far less cost,
not exceeding five cents per hundred. It is now
i about two years since they were put in operation,
1 and I do not know that they have ever been de
tained half an hour for repairs. In haste, j ours,
truly, &c. A. G. Washburn, Agent.
Manayunk, Jan. 13 th, 1845.—Mr. Richard Strib
ling, of the Matteawan Company, has put in opera
tion in my establishment eight of Smith’s Self-
Acting Mules, seven of 432 spindles, and one of 312
spindles. They perform to the greatest satisfac
tion, and the Mule itself is considered by all prac
tical men as the best of the kind in the country.
Joseph Ripka.
Norristown, Pa., Jan. \oth, 1815.—Mr. Stribling,
from the Matteawan Company, New York, has just
finished putting in operation for me ten of Smith's
Self-Acting Mules, for spinning twist and tilling,
which operate to our entire satisfaction.
Samuel Jamison.
Great Falls Mills, April 25, 1815. — Wm. P. Leo
nard, Esq.—Dear Sir—This Company have had
in operation of Self-Acting Mules—Sharp’s, Rob
erts Co’s., Mason’s and Smith’s. The two for
mer for more than two years, and the latter for up
wards of one year last past. 1 have kept an accu
rate account of the product, waste and cost of oper
ating each description of Mule, and the result is
decidedly in favor of Smith’s.
I have no hesitation in saying the Smith’s Mule
will turn off more work per spindle than any other
now in use ; that it requires less trouble to keep it in
order, and may be kept in repair at less expense.
Yours, respectfully, J. A. Burleigh.
