and Liver Compliant, Nen-ous Diseases, Dropsical j
Swellings. Constitutional Disorders and diseases ori- j
ginating from a depraved or Impure state of the ,
Blood or other thud cl the body.
The proprietor of this Alterative would most re- I
assure the public that he has not offered ;
this preparation to their notice Without due refiec- j
tion, and close and rigid study, nor until after
swelvo years’ experience had manifested its great
auperiority over every other article of the kind.—
Lnd he now recommends it with confidence, fuUy
clieving that the above combination of medicines
"in effectually eradicate from the system a class
ot diseases some of which have heretofore been con
sidered incurable.
He has prescribed it in almost every variety of
diseases and with unparalleled success, especially i
m cutaneous affections, cancerous, scrofulous and j
scorbutic diseases, and diseases originating from j
obstruction or enlargement of the glands or impuri- '
ty of the blood.
Cnicer and Cancerous Tumors.
He has used this preparation in upwards of twen
ty well defined cases of cancer and cancerous tu
mors, and in every case but one with perfect and
entire success.
Bronchocele or Goitre, (Swelled Nack.)
He has prescribed it in over a hundred cases of
goitre, and it has never failed in a single instance to ;
completely remove the disease. Not a solitary
case ot failure. All were cured.
The success he has met with in curing broncho
cele and cancerous affections has convinced him ■
that these dangerous and horrible diseases may be ■
removed with as much certainty as Fever and i
Ague. He does not wish to he understood as say
ing that they can be cured as soon as Fever and
Ague, but with as much certainty; and further, that '
he has good reason for believing that this prepara- j
tion will not only cure these diseases when formed,
but that it destroys the virus or poisonous principle
lurking in the system, from which that peculiar
class ol diseases, as well as that of scrofula emanate,
Scrofula —King’s Evil
This preparation has been used in numerous
cases of scrofula, King’s Evil, and scrofulous swell- i
ings, and always w ith the most decided success.
' Skin Diseases.
He has prescribed it in a great variety of cutane
ous affections, and found it successful hi curing salt i
rheum or tetter, biles, blotches, pimples, morphew j
and jaundiced skin, Ac.
Dyspepsia and Liver Complaint.
It has been used in numerous cases of liver com- i
plaint and Dyspepsia, and with the happiest effect, j
Tic-Donlonreux.
It has been used in several cases of Neuralgia
and in every it was successful.
Rheumatism.
This preparation lias been prescribed in a great !
many cases ol chronic rheumatism, and in every ;
case in which it was used until the system became !
affected by the medicine, the disease was removed.
Gout;
A number of cases of gout have been Cured by
this preparation. In one of these cases, the man
had been afflicted with it so severely for thirteen
years is tt) entirely disable him from business, and
for five months immediately previous to his taking
the Alterative he had been confined to his rooin;
butt before he bad finished the third bottle, he was
tj.iabled to walk about the streets and soon after re
turned to his business, from which he had so lon r
keen excluded by his affliction.
Dropsical Swellings.
This medicine increases the powers of digestion
excites the absorbents into healthy exercise, hy
which watery or calcareous depositions, and all un
f»ck and morbid headaches, giddiness, wandering
spins and nervous affections.
In fact, in every case where the medicine has
been taken for some time, no matter for what pur
pose, the general health of the patient has always
been improved by it.
In conclusion, the proprietor would say that some
•cf the most astonishing cases ol skin diseases, can
cer, bronchocele, and scrofula, have been cured by
this medicine, that have ever been recorded; but
want of room in this sheet precludes their'publica
tion at this time.
Cancer.
An interesting case cured by Jayne's Alterative.
In the spring of 1831, a cancerous tumor appear
ed in the right breast of Mrs. Phoebe, wife of Peter
‘ftretch, of Salem N- J. It was examined by rnany
J 'hysicians, and was considered by all as cancerous,
and besides bore all the characteristic marks of
one. All probable means of removing it were used
without the slightest benefit. It continued to in
crease both in size and painfulness, until ail hope
of saving her life, but by a painful operation, was
abandoned, which, after a consultation of eminent
Physicians, was performed, Jan. Ist, 1832. by Dr.
John Rhea Barton, assisted by Dr. Redman, the
proprietor, and two other medical gentlemen. The
whole and entire right breast was removed, and af
ter examination of the tumor, was pronounced by
all present a cancer of the most malignant charac
ter. In about three months, after enduring incredi- i
hie sufferings, she was enabled, though broken in j
spirit, to get about again. She remained feeble, j
and her general health was exceedingly bad, as in
deed it had been for several years before. In the i
spring of 1837, upwards of five years after her breast
had beeu removed, a painful tumor made its ap
pearance on the right side, immediately over the
part formerly occupied by the nipple of the right \
breast, previous to its removal. This tumor steadi- i
ly increased for several months, and became so
painful as to deprive her of rest. The glands un- |
der the right arm were enlarged; and scirrous, and
ahard, irregular, and at times painful tumour, ap
peared in the iett breast. No operation could now
arrest the disease. Indeed her whoie body appear
td to be a mass ol disease. Her case was consid
ered hopeless. She whs of a very scrofulous habit,
eoth her parents having died of Pulmonary con -
bumption, The experiment was now made with
shis Alterative. It was at first given in small doses,
three times a and the doses very gradually,
but steadily increased daily, as long as she took it,
which was about six months, and the skin over and
around the tumour was wet night and morning with
a strong solution ol lodine and Hydriodate Potash.
The tumour continued increasing in size for about
six weeks, and was at times very painful, when the
pain suddenly ceased altogether, and the tumour
swelled out at the base, and became soft, and then
began to diminish, and continued gradually decreas
ing until every vestige of disease was removed.—
The tumour in her lelt breast, and those in her
right exilla were also dispersed. No cancerous or
scrofulous tumours ever appeared afterwards; and
her general health, which had been so bad for four
teen years as to make life a burthen, was effectu
ally and permanently restored. The proprietor is
in possession of the diseased breast, and those who
choose may examine it. He would also say that
he could mention oyer a dozen cases equally inter
esting, wherein his Alterative has subdued cancer
and cancerous tumours, but he has not room here
to record them.
Mrs. Sarah Young, of Quinton’s Bridge, N. J., had
a goitrous tumour on the left side of her windpipe,
as large as the half of an orange, which was cured
by usin" this Alterative tor about four months.
Miss K S , South Fourth-street, Phila
delphia, was al-o cured of an enlargement of the
throat, w hicb filled the entire space between the
chin and breast-bone, and extended around on each
side of her neck to behind her ears, and from her
ears to her shoulders, and produced awful deformi
ty. It commenced growing when she was but five
years old, and continued gradually to increase un
til she was nineteen, at which time she commenced
using this Alterative, which she took for seven
mmths, which entirely reduced the enlargement;
an i she has now as smooth and pretty a neck as can
be found. The proprietor is not at liberty to give
her name in print, but will refer persons to her.

Dr. M. Woodruff- —Dear Sir : —I owe you an apol

i the kindness to send me wliiie in Columbus, for the |
! use of my corps.
I have found it a most valuable Medicine, and 1
only regret that J have not a supply of it. W here
ever my men have followed directions they have 1

With my sincere thanks for your kindness, and
I best wishes for your success, I am your obedient

From Hun. H. H ’ Hilliard, late U. S. Minister to

Dr. Woodruff- —My Dear Sir ;—A few days since
T received the Cordial which you were good enough
to send me. My friend, Col. Seaborn Jones, would j
have part of it; the remainder I have laid aside for j
use when J may need it.
On the other page I hare added a statement of
my appreciation of it as a Medicine.
Having used the Cordial of Dr. M. Woodruff, I I
do not hesitate to pronounce it a most valuable
Medicine. Indeed, for such affections of the bow- |

DEL JOEL BRANHAM'S LIVER AND
DYSPEPTIC MEDICINE.
] N offering this valuable medicine to the people '
-of Georgia,,for the relief and cure of many dis- I
eases incident to a Southern climate. I do not claim
for it infallibility; neither do I say it will cure all 1
j diseases. But in Chronic Liver Affections and
Dyspepsia. I can confidently advise and recom
; mend its use. from my personal observation and use
: of the article in my own practice. This article is
favorably received wherever it has been used. 1
am allowed to refer to Mr. George Heard of Troup.
Mr. John Warren of Columbus, Mr, McKaffce of
1 Cobb. Mr. Asbury Hull of Athens, Mr. William D.
Terrell of Putnam, Rev. John E. Dawson of La
. grange; to which a great number of names might
be added, who bear their testimony to its value.—
Dr. Henry Branham has used this medicine in his
own case, and has prescribed it to many others,
I gives it as his opinion, that it is one of the safest
and most valuable medicines that can be used in
imperfect digestion, liver complaints, constipation
and irregular state of the bowels. It is useful in
billions complaints, to persons recovering from bil
lious fevers, and in sick or nervous head ache. To i
pregnant women, who are subject to costiveness, 1
th : s medicine is well suited. In regulating the state
ot the stomach and bowels, and promoting digestion, •
: it is particularly useful.
1 could append a long list of certificates, but for- j

cine to sustain itself. The medicine is a gentle and
certain cathartic, tonic and sudorific.

„ DR. LB ROY'S
VEGETABLE UNIVERSAL PILLS.
THE startling drawback on nearly all Medicinal :
Agents has ever been that in their process of pur- j
gallon and purification, they have also Debilitated \
the System. Hence Purgative Medicines have al- ;
ways been regarded as" at best but a Necessary
Evil; Patients resorting to them for the relief of
one disease at the expense of another. To obviate
this, Physicians have long sought for an Agent that
would at the same lime
PURGE PURIFY AND STRENGTHEN.
But their efforts were nearly fruitless, and they
had almost despaired of success when the labors of
science and research, were rewarded by a discov
ery which fully realized the fondest desires of the
Medical Faculty, an.d which is justly regarded as
one of the most important Triumphs that Pharmacy
has ever achieved- This important desideratum is
named
Dr. Le Roy*s Vegetable Universal Pills*
Which Purify the Blood , and remove all corrufl
and vitiated humors, and unhealthy accumulations from
the body in a manner never before rivalled, and
which yet produce no weakness or lassitude what
ever, but on the contrary, tone the Stomach, and
invigorate the constitution during the progress of
their operation. Dr. Le Roy’s Pills, in fact, unite
those heretofore irreconcilable, but most desirable
qualities, Evacuation and Invigoration, for they are
at the same time a STRENGTHENING PURGA
TIVE, AND A PURIFYING TONIC.
'I he two paincipal ingredients in Dr. Le Roy’s
j Pills are
WILD CHERRY & SARSAPARILLA.
So prepared that each promotes the beneficial ef
fect of the other, the former strengthening, while
I the latter, through its union with various vegetable
• ingredients, evacuates and purifies; th&s they sa
! perinduce no torpidity or lassitude of the the Diges
tive Functions, and hence their operations are at
tended by no Re-action or Subsequent Costiveness.
Dr. Le Roy’s Pills are the mo<t active and search
ing Medicine in existence. They at once attack
the very root of Diseases, and their action is so
prompt that in an hour or two after they are taken,
the patient is aware of their good effects. They
not only operate on the Plood, but also on the chyle,
of which the Plood is formed, and this secures good
blood from the fountain head, moreover, they pro
duce neither nausea, griping or debility, and as a
family medicine they have no rival. Price 2o cts.

Surprising Efficacy.
MY EAU DIVINE DE VENUS and NYMPH
SOAP, composed of an Eastern Botanical dis

roseate hue to the complexion.
As a creator and conservator of that most distin

fair skin, Jules Hauel’s Nymph Soap of Eau Divine
De Venus may he said to exert an almost magical
f tower. Composed for the most part of Oriental
ialsaraic Plants, lo the utter exclusion of all mine
ral admixture, it is distinguished medicinally for its
extremely bland, purifying and soothing action on
the skin; and by acting on the pores and minute se
cretory vessels, expels all impurities from the sur
face, allays every tendency to imffammation, and
by this method alone, effectually dissipates ail red
ness, tan, prinples, freckles, sunburn and other un
sightfui cutaneous visitations, so inimical to female
lovliness. Its use will change the most bilious com

GALVANIC RINGS AND
Magnetic Fluid.
rjIIIIS remarkable invention, which has received
_S_ the almost universal approbation of the Medi
cal Profession of Great Britain, comprises an en
tirely new application of Galvanism, as a remedial
agent. by means of which the ordinary Galvanic
Batteries, Electric and Magnetic Machines, Ac.,
are entirely dispensed with, and the mysterious
powers of Galvanism applied without any of the
objections which are inseparable from the general
mode now in use. The strong doses, and at irreg
ular intervals, in which Galvanism is applied by the
Machines, has been pronounced after a fair anil im
partial trial, to be decidedly injurious, and it w as to
remedy this radical defect, that this new applica
tion was projected, which after unceasing toil and
perseverance has been brought to its present state
of perfection. The Galvanic Kings answer all the
purposes of the most expensive Machines, and in
I many other respects are more safe and certain in
accomplishing the desired effect.
The Galvanic Rings, used in connection with the
Magnetic Fluid, are confidently recommended in
all disorders which arise from an enfeebled or un
healthy stale of the nervous or vital system, and those
complaints are among the most painful and univer
sal to which we are subject. They arise, without
exception, to one single cause—a derangement of
the Nervous system —and it was in these cases that
other u remedies” having so often failed, a new
agent was greatly needed, which it is confidently
believed, has been found in the proper and judi
i clous application of Galvanism.
The Galvanic Kings have been used with entire
success in all cases of Rheumatism, acute or chronic,
applying to the head, face or limbs: Gout, Tic-
Doloreux , I Toothdche, Bronchitis, Vertigo, Nervous
1 or Sick Headache, Indigestion, Paralyses, Palsy,
Epilepsy, Fits, Cramp, Palpitation of the Heart, Ap
poplexy, Stiffness of Joints, Spinal Complaints, I.um
hago, Neuralgia, Nercors Tremors, Dizziness of the
Head, Pains in the i'hest and Side, Genera! Debil
ity, Deficiency of Nervous and Physical Energy, and
! all Nervous Disorders. In cases of confirmed Dys
pepsia, which is simply .a nervous derangement of
the digestive organs, they ha' e been found equally
successful. Their extraordinary effects Open the
system must he witnessed to be believed, and as a
certain Preventive for the preceding complaints
| they are equally recommended. The Rings are of
i different prices, being made of all sizes, and of va
rious ornamental patterns, and can be worn by the
most delicate female without the slightest incon
venience. In fact the sensation is rather agreea
ble than otherwise.
The Galvanic Belts, Bracelets, Rands,'
Garters, Necklaces, Ac.
In some cases of a very severe character and of
: long standing the power as applied by the Galvanic
Rings is not sufficient to a-rcst the progress of dis
ease ami ultimately to restore health. The improv
ed modification in the Galmnic Belts, Bracelets,
; 4*c., entirely remedies this objection ; any degree
t of power t lat is required can readily be obtained,
i and no complaint which the mysterious agent of
Galvanism Can effect will fail to he permanently re
: lieved. These articles are adapted to the waist, arms,
■ wrists, limbs, ancles, or any part of the body with
I perfect convenience. 'The Galvanic Necklaces, are
used with greater benefit in cases of Bronchitis or
affections of the throat generally 5 also in cases of
; Nervous Deafness ; and with alriiost uniform success
i as a preventive for Apoplexy, Epileptic Fits , and
similar complaints.
CHRISTIE’S MAGNETIC FLUID.
Is issued in connection with the Galvanic Kings,
and all their modifications. This composition has
been pronounced by the French Chemists to be
one of the most extraordinary discoveries of mod
| ern science. It is believed to possess a remarkable
power of rendering the Nerves sensitive to Galvanic
action, by these means causing a circulation of the
influence at the seat of disease, and thus giving ra
| pid and permanent relief. No other composition in
chemistry is known to produce the same effect or
j to impart a similar property to the nervous system
i by means of an outward local application. The
Magnetic Fluid contains nothing capable of the
slightest injury, its application is agreeable, and it
is as harmless in its action as it is beneficial in its
result. The combined inventions are in every way
perfectly harmless ; they are at prices within reach
of all, and the discoverer only requests a fair trial,

Christie’s Galvanic Strengthening Plas
ters.
1 These articles form another valuable application
j and the mysterious influence of Galvanism. They
are too important adjuncts to the genuine Galvanic
\ Rings and their modifications, acting upon the
i same principle, but having this advantage of more
local application. They are confidently recom
mended as a valuable addition in the speedy cure
of Rheumatism, acute or chronic; in all nervous
complaints, and as a positive remedy in cases of
Pain and Weakness in the Chest or Back, Pain in
the Side, Asthmatic Affections, and in Weakness
or Oppression of- the Pulnionary Organs. In Spi
nal Complaints, their effects are of the most decided
character, and they have often been used with
complete success. They are also of the greatest
advantage in Pains and Weakness of the Breast,
and are highly recommended for many of those
complaints to which females are especially liable.
As an effectual means for Strengthening the sys
tem when debilitated by disease or other causes;
as a certain aid in Constitutional Weakness, as a
Preventive for Colds, and in all affections of the
Chest, generally, the Galvanic Strengthening Pias
ter, will he found of great and permanent advantage.
In a few words, it embraces all the virtues of the
best tonic preparation with the important addition
of the Galvanic influence, which is neither impair
ed or exhausted, while the action continues. These
articles will be found entirely free from those ob
jections which are a constant source of complaint
with (he ordinary Plasters in common use.

HOV7 AWFULLY CULPABLE,
TO NEGLECT USING THE GENUINE
DR. TAYLOR’S BALSAM OF LIVERWORT.
375 Bowery, N. Y.
MUST those be who have Pulmonary Consump
tion, or any affection of the Lungs, Liver or
Chest, after reading the following letter, just re
ceived from a most respectable inhabitant of West
chester County New York.
Takrvtown, Aug. 9, 1814.
Dear Doctor—lt is difficult to find words to ex
press the gratitude which 1 feel towards you for
the interest you have taken to relieve me in my
distress. In the year 1842 I contracted a heavy
cold, which finally settled on my lung-; in a few
months after, 1 commenced coughing and raising
offensive matter, which smelt very bad. Having
heard that Sherman’s Lozenges were good for a
coughs I tried a few boxes of them, but they had
not the least effect on me. I then called in the
best physicians in the place, who attended me a
few months, but without success; I then saw an ad
j vertisement in one of the city papers of Wistar’s
Balsam of Wild Cherry, of which 1 purchased three
bottles, at the corner of Fulton and Nassau streets,
but I could not perceive the least beneficial effect
from it, on the contrary I think it was a great in
jury to me. Shortly after using it, I commenced
raising blood in large quantities; I was taken down
sick and confiued to the house for three months,
during which time I lost my appetite and fell away
very fast; 1 was then induced to consult Dr. Curtis
of New York 7 (one of the best physicians in the
city.) but he could do me no good. 1 again became
worse, and was confined to the house all last winter
and spring, and 1 gave up all hope of ever getting
any better, as I again raised blood and my cough
was very severe, together with a prin in inv
breast and under the shoulder blade. My friends
now gave up all hope of my recovering, anti thought
every day was the last. About this time 1 heard
of your BALSAM OF LIVERWORT being good
for consumption, but I was like many others, and
was fearful that it might be a regular humbug; I
however finally consented to try it, as 1 thought it
could make me no worse. My brother then pur
chsed a bottle of it at 373 Bowery, N . Y., and I
commenced taking it, and by the time I had used
one bottle full I could sleep all night, and in the
morning I had an appetite for my breakfast. I still
keep on taking it and find great benefit from it—the
pain in my breast is entirely gone, and I raise no
more blood. Within the last two months 1 have
fained in weight six pounds and much in strength,
would therefore, advise all who have any affec
tion of the Lungs or Liver to try the Genuine Dr.
Taylor’s Balsam of Liverwort, for I truly believe
it to be the best remedy in existence for diseases
of the Lungs or Liver. Should any one doubt the
above statement relative to your valuable medicine,
let him call on me, and I will convince him of its
virtues. Yours, respectfully, DE REVERE.

PROFESSOR OF DISEASES OF WOMEN.
[ Third Edition, 18 mo. jrp. 250. Price $ 1 00.]
25,000 COPIES SOLD IN THREE MONTHS!
The great demand for this most important work,
(of which thousands are sold] has compelled the is
sue of another edition. It is intended especially
for the married, as it discloses important secrets
which should be known to them particularly.—
Here every female can discover the causes, symp
toms, and the most efficient remedies and most
certain mode of cure, in every complaint to which
her sex is subject.
It is an important question to the married why it
is, that we behold so many married females sickly,
debilitated, and prostrated ? as, also, the causes,
and whether they are susceptible of remedy. They
will here find those important matters, connected
with discoveries in medical and physiological sci
ence, which meet this question.
This work is destined to be in the hands of every
wife and mother who has a regard for her own
health and welfare, as well as UyR of her husband.
The revelations contained in its pages have al
ready proved a blessing to thousands as the innu
merable letters received by the author will attest.
It is of course impossible to convey more fully,
in a public journal, the various subjects treated of,
as they are of a nature strictly intended for the
married or those contemplating marriage 3 neither
is it necessary, since it is every one’s duty to be
come possessed of knowledge, whereby the suffer
ings to which a wife, a mother, or a sister may be
subject, can be obviated.
