'1 he success he has met with in curing broncho cele and cancerous affections lias convinced hWo •that these dangerous and horrible diseases may be •removed with as much certainty as Fever and j Ague. He does not wish to be understood as say- t ing that they can be cured as soon as Fever ami Ague, but with as much certainty; and further, that he has srood reason for believing that this prepara tion will not only cure these diseases when formed, but that it destroys the virus or poisonous principle { lurking in the system, from which that peculiar \ class of diseases, as Well as that of scrofula emanate, ! Scrofula—King’s Evil. 3 his preparation has been used in numerous cases of scrofula, Kings Evil, and scrofulous swell ings, and always with the most decided success. Skin Diseases. He has prescribed it in a great variety of cutane ous affections, and found it successful in curine: salt rheum or tetter, biles, blotches, pimples, morphew •and jaundiced skin, &c. Dyspepsia and Liver Complaint. It has been used in nunierous cases of liver com plaint and Dyspepsia, and with the happiest effect Ti c-Douloureux. It has been used in several cases of Neuralgia, and in every case it was successful. Rheumatism This preparation li&s been prescribed in a great •many cases of chronic rheumatism, and in every l case in which it was used until the system became .affected by the medicine, the disease was removed. Gout. A number of cases of gout have been cured by this preparation. In one of these cases, the man •had been afflicted with it so severely for thirteen years as to entirely disable him from business, and for five months immediately previous to his taking the Alterative he had been confined to his room; but before he had finished the third bottle, he was •enabled to walk about the streets and soon after re turned to his business, from which lie had so lone: been excluded by his affliction. Dropsical Swellings. This medicine increases the powers of digestion excites the absorbents into healthy exercise, by which watery or calcareous depositions, and all un natural enlargements are reduced. It imparts tone and vitality to the whole system, removing sick and morbid headaches, giddiness, wandering pains and nervous affections. In fact, in every case where the medicine has "been taken for some time, no matter for what pur pose, the general health of the patient has always been improved by it. In conclusion, the proprietor would say that some •of the most astonishing cases of skin diseases, can cer, bronchocele, and scrofula, have been cured by this medicine, that have ever been recorded; but want of room in this sheet precludes their publica tion at this time. Cancer, An interesting case cured by layup s Alterative. In the spring of 1831, a cancerous tumor appear ed in the right breast of Mrs. Phoebe, wife of Peter Stretch, of Salem N. J. It was examined by many Physicians, and was considered by all as cancerous, and besides bore all the characteristic marks of one. All probable means of removing it were used without the slightest benefit. It continued to in crease both in size and painfulness, until all hope of saving her life, but by a painful operation, was abandoned, which, after a consultation of eminent Physicians, was performed, Jan. Ist, 1832, by Dr. John Rhea Barton, assisted by Dr. Redman, the proprietor, and two other medical gentlemen. The whole and entire right breast was removed, and af ter examination of the tumor, was pronounced by all present a cancer of the most malignant charac ter. In about three months, after enduring incredi ble sufferings, she was enabled, though broken in spirit, to get about again. She remained feeble, and her general health was exceedingly bad, as in deed it had been for several years before. Jn the spring of 1837, upwards of five years after her breast had been removed, a painful tumor made its ap pearance on the right side, immediately over the Earl formerly occupied by the nipple of the right reast, previous to its removal. This tumor steadi ly increased for several months, and became so painful as to deprive her of rest. The glands un der the right arm were enlarged; and scirrhus, and ahard, irregular, and at times painful tumour, ap peared in the left breast. No operation could now arrest the disease. Indeed her whole body appear td to be a mass ot disease. Her case Was consid ered hopeless. She was of a very scrofulous habit, eoth her parents having died of Pulmonary con bumption. The experiment was now made with shis Alterative. It was at first given in small doses, three times a day, and the doses vei*y gradually, but steadily increased daily, as long as she took it, which was about six months, and the skin over and around the tumour was wet night and morning with a strong solution of lodine and Hydriodate Potash. The tumour continued increasing in size for about I six weeks, and was at times very painful, when the pain suddenly ceased altogether, and the tumour swelled out at the base, and became soft, and then began to diminish, and continued gradually decreas ing until every vestige of disease was removed.— The tumour in her left and those in her right exiila were also dispersed. No cancerous or scrofulous tumours ever appeared afterwards; and her general health, which had been so bad for four teen years as to make life a burthen, was effectu ally and permanently restored. The proprietor is in possession ol the diseased breast, and those who' choose may examine it. He would also say that he could mention over a dozen cases equally inter esting, wherein his Alterative has subdued cancer and cancerous tumours, but he has not room here to record them. Mrs. Sarah Young, of Quinton’s Bridge, N. J., had a goitrous tumour on the left side of her windpipe, as large as the halt of an orange, which was cured Alterative for about four months. Miss R S , South Fourth-street. Phila delphia, was also cured of an enlargement of the throat, which filled the entire space between the chin and breast-bone, and extended around on each side of her neck to behind her ears, and from her ears to her shoulders, ahd produced awful deformi ty. It commenced growing when she was but five years old, and continued gradually to increase un til she was nineteen, at which time-she commenced using this Alterative, which she took for seven months, which entirely reduced the enlargement; and she has now as smooth and'pretty a neck as can be found. GALVANIC RINGS AND ..... • Magnetic Fluid. mHIS remarkable invention, which has received ,1. the almost universal approbation of the Medi cal Profession of Great Britain, comprises an en tirely new application of Galvanism, as a remedial agent, by means of which the ordinary Galvanic Batteries, Eleptric and Magnetic Machines,, Ate,, are entirety dispensed with, and the mysterious "powers of Galvanism applied without any of the objections which are inseparable from the general mode now in use. The strong doses, and .at irreg ular intervals, in which Galvanism is applied by the Machines, has been pronounced after a fair and im partial trial, to he decidedly injurious , and it was to remedy this radical defect, that this new applica tion was projected, which after unceasMg tod and perseverance has been brought to its present state of perfection. Tarrytown, Aug. 9, 1841. Dear Doctor- —It is difficult to find words to ex press the gratitude which 1 feel towards you for the interest you have taken to relieve me in my distress. In the year 1842 I contracted a heavy cold, which finally settled on my lungs; in a few months after, I commenced coughing and raising offensive matter, which smelt very bad. Having heard that Sherman’s Lozenges were good for a coughs I tried a few boxes of them, but they had not the least effect on me. 1 then called in Rie best physicians in the place, who attended me a few months, but without success; I then saw an ad vertisement in one of the city papers of Wistar’s Balsam of Wild Cherry, of which I purchased three bottles, at the corner of Fulton and Nassau streets, but I could not perceive the least beneficial effect from it, on the contrary 1 think it was a great in jury to me. Shortly after using it, I commenced raising blood in large quantities; 1 was taken down sick and confiued to the house for three months, during which time 1 lost my appetite and fell away very fast; I was then induced to consult Dr. Curtis of New York, (one of the best physicians in the city,) but he could do me no good. I again became worse, and was confined to the house all last winter and spring, and I gave up all hope of ever getting any better, as I again raised blood and my cough was very severe, together with a pain in my breast and under the shoulder blade. My friends now gave up all hope of my recovering, and thought every day was the last. About this time I heard of your BALSAM OF LIVERWORT being good for consumption, but I was like many others, and was fearful that it might be a regular humbug; 1 however finally^consented to try it, as I thought it could make me no worse. My brother then pur chsed a bottle of it at 375 Bowery, N. Y., and I commenced taking it, and by the time 1 had used one bottle full I could sleep all night, and in the morning I had an appetite for my breakfast. I still keep on taking it and find great benefit from it—the pain in my breast is entirely gone, and I raise no more blood. Within the last two months I have fained in weight six pounds and much in strength, would therefore, advise all who have any affec tion of the Lungs or Liver to try the Genuine Dr. Taylor’s Balsam of Liverwort, for I truly believe it to be the best remedy in existence for diseases of the Lungs or Liver.
