Cancer and Cancerous Tumors. He has used this preparation in upwards of twen ty well defined cases of cancer and cancerous tu mors, and in every case but one with perfect and entire success, Broncliocele cr Goitre, (Swelled ITeck.) He has prescribed it in over a hundred eftses of goitre, and it has never failed in a single instance to completely remove the disease. Not a solitary case of failure. All were cured. The success lie lias met with in curing broncho rele and cancerous affections has convinced him that these dangerous and horrible diseases may he removed with as much certainty as Fever and Ague. He does not wish to he understood as sav ing that they can be cured os soon ns Fever and Ague, hut with as much certainty; and further, that he has good reason for believing that this prepara tion will not only cure these diseases when formed, but that it destroys the virus or poisonous principle i lurking in the system, from which that peculiar class of diseases, as well as that of scrofula emanate, : Scrofula—King’s Evil. This preparation has been used in numerous i eases of scrofula, King’s Evil, and scrofulous swell ings, and always with the most decided success. | Skin Diseases. He has prescribed it in a great varietv of cutane ous affections, and found it successful in curing salt rheum or tetter, biles, blotches, pimples, morphew ; and jaundiced skin, & c. Dyspepsia and Liver Complaint It has been used in numerous cases of liver com plaint and Dyspepsia, and with the happiest effect. Tic-Doulonrsnrr. It ba? been used in several cases of Neuralgia, ! and in every case it was successful. Rheum atism. This preparation has been prescribed In a great j many cases of chronic rheumatism, and in every rase in which it was used until the system became affected by the medicine, the disease was removed G-ont A number of ca=es of gout have been cured by this preparation. In one of these cases, the man had been afflicted with it so severely for thirteen years as to entirely disable him from business, and for five months immediately previous to his taking the Alterative he had been confined to his room; but before he had finished the third bottle, he was enabled to walk about the street? and soon after re turned to his business, from which he had so long Heen excluded by his affliction. | Dropsical Swgllings, This medicine increase? the powers of digestion excites the absorbents into healthy exercise, by which watery or calcareous depositions, and all un natural enlargements are reduced. It imparts tone and vitality to the whole svstem, removin'* sick and morbid headaches, giddiness, wandering pains and nervous affections. In fact, in every case where the medicine has been taken for some time, no matter for what pur- I nose, the general health of the patient has always j been improved by it. In conclusion, the proprietor would say that some of the most astonishing cases of skin diseases, can cer, bronchocele, and scrofula, have been-cured by this medicine, that have ever been recorded; but want of room in this sheet precludes their publica tion at this time. Cancer. An interesting rase cured hij Jayne's Alterative. In the spring of 1831, a cancerous tumor appear ed in the right breast of Mrs. Phoebe, wife of Peter Stretch, ot Salem N T . J, It was examined hv many Physicians, and was considered by all as cancerous, and besides bore all the characteristic marks of one. All probable means of removing it were used without the slightest benefit. It continued to in- 1 crease both in size and painfulness, until all hope of saving her life, but by a painful operation, was abandoned, which, after a consultation of eminent Physicians, was performed, Jan. Ist, 1832, by Dr. John Rhea Barton, assisted by Dr. Redman, the proprietor, and two other medical gentlemen. The whole and entire right breast was removed, and af ter examination of the was pronounced by all present a cancer of the most malignant charac ter. In about three months, after enduring incredi ble sufferings, she was enabled, though broken in spirit, to get about again. She remained feeble, and her general health was exceedingly bad, as in- ! deed it had been for several years before. In the spring of 1837, upwards of five years after her breast had been removed, a painful tumor made its ap pearance on the right side, immediately over the part formerly occupied by the nipple of the right breast, previous to its removal. This tumor steadi ly increased for several months, and became so Sainful as to deprive her of rest. The glands un er the right arm were enlarged; and scirrhus, and ahard, irregular, and at times painful tumour, ap peared in the left breast. No operation could now ; arrest the disease. Indeed her whole body appear- ; td to be a mass of disease. Her case was consid- | «red hopeless. She was of a very scrofulous habit, j eoth her parents having died of Pulmonary con bumption. The experiment was now made wiih shis Alterative. It was at first given in small doses, three times a day, and the doses very gradually, but steadily increased daily, as long as she took it, which was about six months, and the skin over and around the tumour was wet night and morning with a strong solution of lodine and Hvdriodate Potash. The tumour continued increasing in size for about | six weeks, and was at times very painful, when the pain suddenly cea«ed altogether, and the tumour swelled out at the base, and became soft, and then began to diminish, and continued gradually decreas ing until every vestige of disease was removed.— The tumour in her left breast, and those in her \ right exilla were also dispersed. No cancerous or scrofulous tumours ever appeared afterwards; and her general health, which had been so bad for four teen years as to make life a burthen, was effectu ally and permanently restored. The proprietor is in possession of the diseased breast, and those who choose may examine it. He would also say that he could mention over a dozen eases equally inter esting, wherein his Alterative has subdued cancer and cancerous tumours, but he has not rpom here to record them. Mrs. Sarah Young, of Quinton’s Bridge, N. J., had ft goitrous tumour on the left side of her windpipe, as large as the half of an orange, which was cured by using this Alterative tor about four months. Miss R S •—, South Fourth-street, Phila delphia, was also cured of an enlargement of the throat, which filled the entire space between the chin and breast-bone, and extended around on each tide of her neck to behind her ears, and from her cars to. her shoulders, and produced awful deformi ty. It commenced growing when she was but five rears old, and continued gradually to increase un til she was nineteen, at which time she commenced Using this Alterative, which she took for seven months, which entirely reduced the enlargement; •nd she has now as smooth and pretty a neck as can be found. MUST those be who have Pulmonary Consump tion, or any affection of the Lungs, Liver or Chest, after reading the following letter, just re ceived from a most respectable inhabitant of West chester County New York. Tarrvtown, Aug. 9, 1844. Dear Doctoi—lt is diflicult to find words to ex press the gratitude which I feel towards you for the interest you have taken to relieve me in my distress, in the year 1842 I contracted a heavy cold, which finally settled on my lungs; in a few months after, 1 commenced coughing and raising offensive matter, which smelt very bad. Having heard that Sherman’s Lozenges were good for a coughs 1 tried a few boxes of them, but they had not the least effect on me. 1 then called in the best physicians in the place, wrho attended me a few months, but without success; I then saw an ad vertisement in one of the city papers of Wistur’s Balsam of Wild Cherry, of which I purchased three bottles, at the corner of Fulton and Nassau streets, but I could not perceive the least beneficial effect from it, on the contrary I think it was a great in jury tome. Shortly after using it, I commenced raising blood in large quantities; I was taken down sick and confined to the house for three months, during which time I lost my appetite and fell away very fast; I was then induced to consult Dr. Curtis of New York, (one of the best physicians in the city,) but he could do me no good. I again became worse, and was confined to the house atl last winter and spring, and I gave up all hope of ever getting any better, as I again raised blood and my cough was very severe, together with a pain in rav breast and under the shoulder blade. My friends now gave up all hope of my recovering, and thought every day was the last. About this time 1 heard of your BALSAM OF LIVERWORT being good for consumption , but I was like many others, and was fearful that it might be a regular humbug; I however finally consented to try it, as I thought it could make me no worse. My brother then pur chsed a bottle of it at 373 Bowery, N. Y., and I commenced taking it, and by the time 1 had used one bottle full 1 could sleep all night, and in the morning 1 had an appetite for my breakfast. 1 still keep on taking it and find great benefit from it—the pain in my breast is entirely gone, and 1 raise no more blood.
