he has »ood reason for believing that this prepara
tion will not only cure these diseases when formed,
but that it destroys the virus or poisonous principle
lurking in the system, from which that peculiar
class of diseases, as well as that of scrofula emanate
Scrofula—King’s Evil.

Jin interesting case cured by Jayfteh Alterative.
In the spring of 1831, a cancerous tumor appear
ed in the right breast of Mrs. Phoebe, wife of Peter
Stretch, of Salem N. J. It was examined by many
Physicians, and was considered by all as cancerous, '
jmd besides bore all the characteristic marks of
•one. All probable means of removing itw r cre used
withoutYhe slightest benefit. It continued to in
crease both in size and painfulness, until all hope
of saving her life, but by a painful operation, was
abandoned, which, after a consultation of eminent
Physicians, was performed, Jan. Ist, 1832, by Dr.
Jehu Rhea Barton, assisted by Dr. Redman, the 1
proprietor, and two other medical gentlemen. The
whole and entire right breast was removed, and af
ter examination of the tumor, w-as pronounced by
jall present a cancer of the most malignant charac
ter. 1b about three months, after enduring incredi
ble sufferings, she was enabled, though broken in
spirit, to get about -again. She remained feeble,
and her general health was exceedingly bad. as in
deed it bad been for several years before. In the
spring of 1837, upwards of five years after her breast
bad b een removed, a painful tumor made its ap
pearance on the right side, immediately over the
part formerly occupied by the nipple of the right
breast, previous to its removal. This tumor steadi
ly increased for several months, and became so
painful as to deprive her of rest. The glands un
der the right arm were enlarged; and scirrhus, and
a hard, irregular, and at times painful tumour, ap
peared in the left breast, No operation could now
arrest Ike disease. Indeed her w hole body appear
td to be * mass of disease. Her case was consid
•ered hopeless. She was of a very scrofulous habit,
cotb her parents having died of Pulmonary con
bumption. The experiment w r as now made with
«Uis Alterative. It was at first given in small doses,
three times a day, and the doses very gradually,
but steadily increased daily, as long as she took it,
which was about six months, and the skin over and
around the tumour was w’et night and morning with
a strong solution of lodine and Hvdriodate Potash.
The tumour continued increasing in size for about j
Mwweeks, and was at times very painful, when the
pain suddenly ceased altogether, and the tumour
swelled out at the base, and became soft, and then
began to diminish, and continued gradually decreas
ing until every vestige of disease was removed.-
The tumour in her left breast, and those in her
right exilla were also dispersed. No cancerous or
scrofulous tumours ever appeared afterwards; and
her general health, which had been so bad for four
teen years as to make life a burthen, was effectu
ally and permanently restored. The proprietor is
{a possession of the diseased breast, and those who ;
choose may examine it. He would also say that
he could mention over a dozen cases equally inter- i
eating, wherein his Alterative has subdued cancer j
and cancerous tumours, but he has not room he re ;
to record them.
Mrs. Sarah Young, of Quinton’s Bridge, N. J., had
a goitrous tumour oh the left side of her windpipe, i
as large as the half of an orange, which was cured
by usingthis Alterative for about four months.
Mias R S South Fourth-street, Phila
delphia, was also cured of an enlargement of the
throat, which filled the entire space between the
ediin and breast-bone, and extended around on each
tide of her neck to behind her ears, and from her
ears to her shoulders, and produced awful deformi
ty. It commenced growing when she was but five
years old, and continued gradually to increase un
til she was nineteen, at which time she commenced
using this Alterative, which she took for seven
months, which entirely reduced the enlargement*
and she has now as smooth and pretty a neck as can
be found. The proprietor is not at liberty to give
faer name in print, but will refer persons to her.

Dr. M. Woodruff —De;ir Sir : —I owe you an apol- j
ogy for not acknowledging before this the receipt j
of a box of your Dysentery Cordial, which you had !
the kindness to send me while in Columbus, for the
use of my corps.
I have found it a most valuable Medicine, and |
only regret that I have not a supply of it. Where- i
■ ever my men have followed directions they have 1
j invariably found relief. We have suffered and are
i suffering much from Dysentery occasioned by the
j wretched water we have to drink, but your Cor
j dial is restoring all to their wonted health ami vigor.
With my sincere thanks for your kindness, and j
i best wishes for your success, I am your obedient i
; servant.
ISAAC HOLMES. Capt. Macon Guards.
From Hon. H, W. Hilliard , late U. S. Minister to

Dr. Woodruff —My Dear Sir :—A few days since
I received the Cordial which you were good enough
;to send me. My friend, Col. Seaborn Jones, would
| have part of it; the remainder I have laid aside for
! use when 1 may need it.
On the other page I have added a statement of
nay appreciation of it as a Medicine.
Having deed the Cordial of Dr. M. Woodruff, I
do not hesitate to pronounce it a most valuable
Medicine. Indeed, for such affections of the bow
| els as we sometimes sutler with in the South, I
| Tritew nothing at all equal to it.

i DR. JOEL BRANHAM’S LIVER AND
DYSPEPTIC MEDICINE.
IN offering this valuable 'medicine to the people
of Georgia, for the relief and cure of many dis
: eases incident to a Southern climate, I do not claim
for it infallibility; neither do I say it will cure all
diseases. But in Chronic ’Liver Affections and
Dyspepsia, I can confidently advLe and repom
; mend its use, from my personal observation and use
| of the .article in my own practice. This article is
favorably received wherever it has been used.. 1
am allowed to refer to Mr. Georgq Heard of 1 rohp.
Mr. John Warren of Columbus, Mr. McKaffee of
Cobb, Mr. Asbury Hull of Athens, Mr. William D.
Terrell of Putnam, Rev. John E. Dawson of . La
grange; to Which a great number of names might
be added, wTio bear their testimony to its value.—
Henry Branham has hsed this medicine in fiis
| own case, and has prescribed it to many others,
: gives it as his opinion, that it is one of the safest
and most valuable medicines that can be used in
i imperfect digestion, liver complaints, constipation
and irregular state of the bowels. It is useful in
billions complaints, to persons recovering from bil
lions fevers, and in sick or nervous head-ache. To
pregnant women, who are subject to costiveness,
this medicine is well suited. In regulating the state
{ dl the stomach and bowels, and promoting digestion,
j it is particularly useful.
j I could, append a long list of certificates, but for
bear, prefering to rely on the virtues of the medi
cine to sustain itself. The medicine is a gentle aud
certain cathartic, tonic and sudorific.

DR. LE ROY’S
VEGETABLE UNIVERSAL PILLS.
THE startling drawback on nearly all Medicinal
AgCnta l'a« ever beeu that in tKeir process of pur
g&tiOn and purification, they have also Debilitated
the System, Hence Purgative Medicines have al
ways been regarded A* St 4sest but a Necessary
Evil; Patient* resorting to them for the refief >of
one disease at the expense of another. To obviate
this, Physicians have long sought for an Agent that
would at the same time
PURGE PURIFY AND STRENGTHEN.
But their efforts were nearly fruitless, and they
had almost despaired of success when the labors of
I science and research, were rewarded by a discov
j ery which fully realized the fondest desires of the
Medical Faculty, and which is justly regarded as
one of the most important Triumphs that Pharmacy
has ever achieved. This important desideratum
named
Dr. Re Roy’s Vegetable Universal Pills.
Which Purify the Blood, and remove all corrupt
; and vitiated humors, and unhealthy accumulations from
the body in a manner never before rivalled, and
which yet produce no weakness or lassitude what
ever, but on the contrary, tone the Stomach, and
! invigorate the constitution during the progress of
their operation. Dr. Le Roy’s Pills, in fact, unite
those heretofore irreconcilable, but most desirable
qualities, Evacuation and Invigoration, for tbev arc
at the same time a STRENGTHENING PURGA
TIVE, AND A PURIFYING TONIC.
Ihe twe principal ingredient* in Dr. f*c Rov’s
Pills are
WILD CHERRY & SARSAPARILLA.
So prepared that each promotes the beneficial ef
fect ol the other, the former strengthening, while
the latter, through its union With various vegetable
ingredients, evacuates and purifies; thus they su
perinduce no torpidity or lassitude of the the Diges
tive Functions, and hence their operations are at
tended by no Re-action or Subsequent Costxveness.
Dr. Le Roy’s Pills are the most active and search
ing Medicine in existence. They at once attack
the very root of Diseases, and their action is so
prompt that in «n hour or two after they are taken,
the patient is aware of their good effects. They
not only operate on the Blood, but also on the chyle,
of which the Blood is formed, and this secures good
blood from the fountain head, moreover, they pro
duce neither nausea, griping or debility, and as a
family, medicine they have no rival. Price 25 cts.

Surprising Efficacy.
MY EAU DIVINE DE VENUS and NYMPH
SOAP, composed of an Eastern Botanical dis
cover}’ of surprising efficacy, for rendering the
Skin soft and fair, as well as Imparting a delicate
roseate hue to the complexion.
As a creator and conservator of that most distin
guisliing charm of female loveliness, a transparent
fair skin, Jules Hand’s Nymph Soap of Eau Divine
De Venus may be said to exert an almost magical
i power. Composed for the most part of Oriental
Balsamic Plants, to the utter exclusion of all mine
ral admixture, it is distinguished medicinally for its
extremely bland, purifying and soothing action on
the skin; and by acting on the pores and minute se
cretory vessels, expels all impurities from the sur
i face, allays every tendency to imrtammation, and
by this method alone, effectually dissipates all red
uess, tan, prinples, freckles, sunburn and other un
sightful cutaneous visitations, so inimical to female
lovliuess. Its uce will change the most bilious com
plexion into one of radiant whiteness; while on the
neck, hand# *«d arms it bestows a delicacy and
fairness which its continued use will happily pro
tect, and every appearance of youthful charm, to

galvanic rings a is* b
"Magnetic Fluid,
MM HIS remarkable invention, which has received
X the altaost uuiversal approbation of the Medi
cal Profession of Great Britain, comprises an en
tirely new application of Galvanism, as a remedial
agent, by means pf which the ordinary Galvanic
Batteries, Electric and Magnetic Machines, Ac.,
I are entirely dispensed with, and the mysterious
) powers of Galvanism applied without any of the
objections which are inseparable from the general
j mode now in use. The strong doses, and at irreg
j ular intervals, in which Galvanism is applied by the
| Machines, has been pronounced after a fair and im
; partial trial, to be decidedly injurious , and it was to
: remedy this radical defect, that this new applica
tion was projected, which after unceasing toil and
j perseverance has been brought to its present state
| of perfection. The Galvanic Kings answer all the
i purposes of the most expensive Machines, and in
many other respects are more safe and certain in
l accomplishing the desired effect.
The Galvanic Rings, used in connection with the
; Magnetic Fluid, are confidently recommended in
1 all disorders which arise, from an enfeebled or un
, healthy state of the nervous or vital system, and those
complaints are among the most painful and univer
sal to which we are subject. They arise, without
exception, to one single cause—a derangement of
the Nervous system —and it was in these eases that
other remedies” having so often failed, a new
agent was greatly needed, which it is confidently
believed, has been found in the proper and judi
cious application of Galvanism.
The Galvanic Rings have been used with entire
success in all cases of Rheumatism, acute or chronic,
applying to the head, face or limbs: Gout, Tic-
Doloreux, Toothache, lironchitis, Vertigo, Nervous
or Sick Headache, Indigestion , Paralyses, Palsy,
Epilepsy, Fits, Cramp, Palpitation of the Heart, Ap
| poplexy, Stiffness of Joints , Spinal Complaints, lum
bago, Neuralgia, Nervovs Tremors, Dizziness of the
Head. Pains in the Chest ami Side, General Debil
ity, Deficiency of Nervous and Physical Energy, and
ail Nervous Disorders. In cases of confirmed Dys
pepsia, which is simply a nervous derangement of
the digestive organs, they have been found equally
successful. Their extraordinary effects upon the
system must be witnessed to be believed, and as a
certain Preventive for the preceding complaints
they are equally recommended. The Rings are of
fiifferent prices, being made of all sizes, and of va
rious ornamental patterns, and can be worn by the
! most delicate female without the slightest incon
i Venjfince. I u fact the sensation is rather agreea-
I ble than otherwise"
| The Galvanic Belts, Bracelets, Bands,
Garters, Necklaces, &c.
In some cases of a very severe character and of
long standing the pb'wer -as, applied by the Galvanic
Rings is not sufficient to arrest the progress of dis
ease hhd ultimately to restore health. The improv
i ed modification 'fr tlie 'Grdvanic *l efts, -jßrftreiets,
fyc., entirely remedies this objection ; any degree
of power that is required can readily'be obtained,
‘and ,no complaint which the mysterious of
Galvanism can effect willVVfl l< ne pe*Vmnently re
lieved. These articles are adapted to the waist, arms,
w r rists, limbs, ancles, or any part of the body with
pprfect "convenience. Tlie Galvanic Necklaces, \ire
used with greater benefit in cases, of lironchitis or
affections of the throat generally ; also in -cases of
Nervous Deafness ; and with almost uinforiu success
as a preventive for Apoplexy, Epileptic Fits, and
similar complaints.
CHRISf fe? MAGNETIC FLUID.
Is issued in connection with the Galvanic Riiigs,
and all their modifications. This composition has
been pronounced by the French .Chemists,tp he
one of the most extraordinary AiscdVeriei of mod
ern science. It is believed to possess a remarkable
power of rendering the Nerves sensitive to Galvanic
action , by these means causing a circulation of the
influence at the seat of disease, and thus giving ra
pid and permanent relief. No other cotnpisition in
chemistry is known to produce the same effect or
to impart a similar property to the nervous system
by means of an outward local application The
Magnetic Fluid contains nothing capahlt of the
slightest injury, its application is agreeable, and it
is as harmless in its action as it is beneficial in its
result. The combined inventions are in every wav
perfectly harmless ; they are at prices within reach
of all, and the discoverer only requests a fair trial,
as a test of their surprising efficacy and permanent
benefit.
Christie’s Galvanic Strengthening Plas
ters.
These articles form another valuable application
and the mysterious influence of Galvanism. They
are too important adjuncts to the genuine Galvanic
Rings and their modifications, acting upon the
same principle, but having this advantage of more
local application. They are confidently recom
mended as a valuable addition in the speedy cure
of Rheumatism, acute or chronic; in ail nervous
complaints, and as a positive remedy in cases of
Pain and Weakness in the Chest or Park, Pain in
the Side, Asthmatic Affections, and in Weakness
or Oppression of the Pulmonary Organs. In Spi
nal Complaints, their effects are of the raostdecided
character, and they have often been used with
complete success. They are also of the greatest
advantage in Pains and Weakness of the Breast,
and are highly recommended for many of those
complaints to which females are especially liable.
As an effectual means for Strengthening the sys
tem 'when debilitated by disease or other causes;
as a certain aid in "Constitutional Weaksess, as a
Preventive for Colds, and in ail affections of the
Chest, generally, the Galvanic Strengthening Plas
ter, will be found of great and permanent advantage.
In a few words, it embraces all the virtues of the
best tonic preparation with the important addition
of the Galvanic influence, which is neither impair
ed or exhausted, while "the action continue*. These
articles will be found entirely free from those ob
jections which are a constant source of complaint
with the ordinary Plasters in cemmon use.

DR. TAYLOR’S BALSAM OF LIVERWORT. |
375 Bowery, N. Y.
MUST those be who have Pulmonary Consmnp- 1
tion, or any affection of the Lungs, Liver or |
Chest, after reading the following letter , just re- [
ceived from a most respectable inhabitant of West- j
Chester County New York.
Tarkytown, Aug. 9, 1844. |
Dear Doctor—lt is difficult to find words to ex
press the gratitude which I feel towards you for
the interest you have taken to relieve me in my
distress. In’the year 1842 I contracted a heavy
cold, which finally settled on my lungs; in a few
months after, I commenced coughing and raising
offensive matter, which smelt very bad. Having
heard that Sherman’s Lozenges were good for a ;
coughs I tried a few boxes of them, but they had
not the least effect on me. I then called in the !
best physicians in the place, who attended me a ;
few months, but without success; I th§n saw an ad
vertisement in one of the city papers of Wistar’s j
j Balsam of Wild Cherry, of which 1 purchased three i
| bottles, at the corner of Fulton and Nassau streets, !
but I could not perceive the least beneficial effect i
from it, on the contrary I think it was a great in
jury tome. Shortly after using it, 1 commenced
raising blood in large quantities; I was taken down
sick and confiued to the house for three months,
during which time 1 lost my appetite and fell away
i very fast; I was then induced to consult Dr. Curtis
of New York, (one of the best physicians in the
city,) but he could do me no good. 1 again became
| worse, and was confined to the house all last winter
. and spring, and I gave up all hope of ever getting
any better, as I again raised blood and my cough
was very severe, together with a pain in ray
; breast and under the shoulder blade. My friends
j now gave up all hope of my recovering, and thought
i every day was the last. About this time I heard
of your BALSAM OF LIVERWORT being good
for consumption, but I was like many others, and
"was fearful that it might be a regular humbug; I
however finally consented to try it, as I thought it
could make me no worse. My brother then pur
chsed a bottle of it at 375 Bowery, N . Y., and I
commenced taking it, and by the time 1 had used
one bottle full I could sleep all night, and in the
morning I had an appetite for ray breakfast. 1
keep on taking it and find great benefit from it—t*
pain in my breast is entirely gone, and I raise no
more blood. Within the last two months I have
gained in weight six pounds and much in strength.
1 would therefore, advise all who have any affec- 1
| tion of the Lungs or Liver to try the Genuine Dr.
Taylor’s Balsam of Liverwort, for I truly believe i
) it to be the best remedy in existence for diseases
of the Lungs or Liver. Should any one doubt the
above statement relative to your valuable medicine,
let him call on me, and I will convince him of its
! virtues. Yours, respectfully, DE REVERE.

[ Third Edition, 18 mo. pp. 250. Price $ 1 00.]
25,000 COPIES SOLD IN THREE MONTHS!
The great demand for this most important work,
! (of which thousands are sold] has compelled the is
sue of another edition. It is intended especially
for the married, as it discloses important secrets
which should he known to them particularly.—
i Here every female can discover the causes, symp
toms, and the most efficient remedies and most
i certain mode of cure, in every complaint to which
| her sex is subject.
It is an important question to the married why it
1 is, that we behold so many married females sickly,
| debilitated, and prostrated ? as, also, the causes,
; and whether they are susceptible of remedy. They
! will here find those important matters, connected
! with discoveries in medical and physiological sci
■ ence, which meet this question.
This work is destined to be in the hands of every
! wife and mother who has a regard for her own
health and welfare, as well as that of her husband.
The revelations contained in its pages have al
ready proved a blessing to thousands as the innu
merable letters received by the author will attest.
It is of course impossible to convey more fully,
in a public journal, the various subjects treated of,
as they are of a nature strictly intended for the
married or those contemplating marriage ; neither
i is it necessary, since it is every one’s duty to bc
) come possessed of knowledge, whereby the suffer
ings to which a wife, a mother, or a sister may be
subject, can be obviated.
