July 23.— Cotton. —Arrived since 16th inst. 1008 bales Upland (140 per Rail-Road, and 507 from Augusta and landings on the river.) The exports for same period have been 2353 Up lands and 503 bales Sea Island—leaving a stock on hand and on ship-board, of 8244 bales Upland, and 516 bales Sea Islands, against 4941 bales bales Up land, and 193 bales Sea Islands, at the same time last year. There has been rather more activity in the mar ket this week, the sales amounting to 855 bales, as follows: 27 at lot; 152 at 10$; 28 at lOg; 137 at 103; 103 at 11; 305 at 11$; 43 at 11^ —also 50 bales at 18 : a 25 cents. The accounts of the Britannia, (steamer of the 4th,) were received yesterday morning, which show a heavy fall in the prices of Grain and provisions, and an advance of $ a £d. per lb. on Cotton. The stock of Cotton is too light in this market, and the business too limited to enable us to make quotations. Cam.— The sales of the week amount to about 2550 bushels at 75 a 80c. The market is well sup plied, and since the receipt of the steamer’s ac counts, we doubt if 70c. could be obtained for any considerable quantity. Flour. —The sales been small—choice lots of Georgia have been sold at $7 per bbl. .Hate— Is retailing from Store $1 per 100 lbs. Sa/t. —We have no sales to notice. CHARLESTON, July sk—€V'o».—*There has been more activity in the Cotton market since our last, than for some weeks past, which is doubtless to be attributed to the favorable accounts received since our former publication from across the water. On Saturday last there was not a solitary transac tion in the article. On Monday purchasers took between 3 and 40Q bales, at about the prices paid during the previous week. On Tuesday the tele graphic accounts per the Britannia came to hand, and during the day near 700 bales were sold, and at the close of business prices were report ed Je. up on all qualities. The private advices were received on Wednesday, and during that day feme disposition was evinced on the part of buy ers to extend their operations, but the talk of an ad vance in the rate of freight to Liverpool, taken in connection with the high rates required on the part of holders, confined the operations to some 450 bales; on Tuesday, however, notwithstanding this position of affairs, buyers entered the market and took a little over 1000 bales, and factory obtained prices that they were not able to get on the preceding day. The business of yesterday was on a much more extensive scale, as the sales foot up fully 2000 bales; and the transactions towards the close of the week show a positive advance of a $ to j[c. on prices cur rent just prior to the receipt of the steamers ac counts. vVe subjoin the following quotations as a fair index of the market at the close of operations —vie : Inferior.—; ordinary to good ordinary, 10A all; middling to good middling, 11J a mid dling fair, 11$; f a > r an d fully fair 12 a 12$; and good fair I2£c. The sales since our last reach 3500 bales, as follows .49 bales at 10; 27 at 10 j; 373 at 10$; 114 at ICg; 5G6 at 10|; 141 at II; 184 at 11 J, 353 at 11$; 156 at llg; 535 at 11J; 97 at Ilf; 1232 at. 11$; 15 at 11£; 93 at 12; and 566 bales at 12,$c Eer lb. The receipts comprise 862 bales. We ave no transactions to report in any of the descrip tions classed under the head of Long Cotton. Corn. —The market has been very unsettled throughout the week, with hut a very moderate demand from the trade. The transactions have been confined solely to Country and Georgia descriptions. The market opened at prices ranging from 75 to 80 cts , with and without the bags, and dropped to 70 a 68c. per bushel; and closed yesterday nominally at 65 a 68c. The receipts per Rail Road reach 5400 bushels. Flour —The market is very unsettled, and prices fluctuate almost daily. About 150 barrels country, common and choice brands, at auction and at private sale, at prices ranging from to ss.s per barrel. Baltimore in small lots at 6£ and $7; and about 150 barrels Western at prices ranging from 6$ to $G£ per barrel. Freights. —We have an advance to report on onr former quotation to Liverpool, as a vessel has been taken up for that port at for Cotton in square bugs. A full cargo has been engaged for Havre •1 !c. and lsc. forspuare and round bags. There is nothing up for Boston. We quote Cotton in square bags to New York a |c. and dull. No Rice offering. NEW YORK. July 21. P. M.—Coftow.-Sales 2500 bales, prices of yesterday, steady. The sales are a .large proportion of them for shipment. Flour is better, especially fresh ground, though only in demand. There are numerous buyers of fresh Genesee at $5,25, but no sellers. Good Mich igan and Ohio $5,12, Southern, but very little h*ere. Wheat, 2000 bushels good new North Carolina sold at !12£ cts.; Corn is rather better, say 56 a 6Sc.; other grains as before. Provisions very quiet, prices unchanged; Pork $12,50 and sls.
