CORN.— The intelligence from Liverpool to the 4th ult having been unfavorable fur the article, prices gave way not only in this market hut throughout the country.— Sales have been made within the past two weeks at 50 cents per bushel, sacks included. The supply on hand fa light, and hut little arriving, which has given holders here more firmness, and some of them refuse to sell under 55 cents. We quote 50 a 55. FLOUR.—The Flour market has aim declined, and sales are making at prices ranging from $4,50 a 5,50 per bbl for country. The stock of all descriptions is light, but sufficient for the demand. Good country is scarce> and retails readily at our highest figures. BAGGING, &c.—There is but a limited demand for this article, and transactions are Confined principally to supplying small country orders. A sale of a lot of some hundred pieces Kentucky was made this week, hut we could not learn the price. We have a good stock on hut it is held hy three or four houses. BACON.—Fair supply on hand. A lot of good would no doubt, readily bring Bc. hog round. Sides are retailing in small lots from stores, at 9J) a 10 cents. SALT.—No receipts this month, and no large sales to report. Sacks retailing from stores at $1,6,2 a 1,i5, and hulk at 45 cents per bushel. SUGARS. —Good stock of all descriptions on hand, with more daily arriving. Prices have a downward ten dency. COFFEE.—Good stock of Rio on hand. Transactions confined to retail sales. MOLASSES.—There is a fair demand for both Cuba and New Orleans. The former is retailing from stores at 28 a 30, and the latter at 37 a 43 cents per gallon, DOMESTIC SPIRITS.—Good supply on hand—de mand moderate. THE RIVER.— We have had quite a rise in the river, caused by the recent rains, and within the last two or three days it has been running over the upper platforms. It is now in excellent navigable condition, with every prospect of remaining so for the remainder of the season. We think our friends North, shipping home their pur chases, can do so via the river, without running any risk of detention. There is not much freight offering to either Savannah or Charleston, and we have no change to notice in the rales ask ;d. Extract of a letter -eceived in this city, dated HAVRE, July 7.— Cotton.—Our market which I in the early part of the past week, wore rather a dull appearance, has since Wednesday last been distinguished by a very spir.ted demand, which continued animated up to Saturday, and prices of American Cottons have undergone a further im provement of f. 2 a 3 on ordinary and inferior dis rriplions. The advices from the United States brought by the Hibernia steamer of 16th ulto., an nouncing « suspension in the shipments, were tha first Cause that produced the impulse in the buy ing, Which Became of a still more active character after receipt of the accounts from Liverpool, sta ting a further decline in Wheat and Flour, and an amended as; e> ( in things generally speaking.— Since the opening of tlie present week however, there has been .less briskness displayed, the daily sales not averaging more than 700 bales; but this may be accounted for by the previous large trans actions that took place, Which were almost exclu sively for Consumption. Holders nevertheless main tain a firrtt attitude, Pnd offer sparingly; and al though th -re is at present but a very slight specu la, ive feeling manifested, the conviction that our slock of Cotton is not likely to be materially in creased for perhaps a long lapse of time, coupled with the rapid decline in all the Grain markets may be looked upon as favorable to the importer. — On the other hand, however, the situation of the manufacturing districts is far from encouraging, the long prevailing dearness in every article ol food, has created a degree of distress and embarrass ment, from which they cannot immediately recov er, and this will necessarily act in some measure prejudicially to business, and tend to restrict the consumption of the raw material, until the state of trade assumes a more wholesome appearance.— Sales effected, 11,704- bales, of which 2,506 were Upland at 93f. a lOlf. Extract of' a letter received in Charleston , d ited '•LIVERPOOL, July 9.—The trade having been considerable purchasers for some weeks past, their operations throughout the present one have been on a more confined scale, and as the quantity of Cotton offering has been fully equal to the demand, occa sional sales have been made at a slight reduction. The general position of the market is, however, firm, and holders are confident of improvement. The weather continues so favorable as to increase this feeling rather than otherwise, and, though money is still dear, there is no difficulty in obtain ing it, so that, in addition to the business transact ed by the trade and for export, there is something done almost daily in speculation. In long stapled Cotton, whether Egyptian or Brazil, prices are rather upon the advance; but Surats are somewhat lower than the last week's quotations. The sales this week (with 4-000 bales to-day and a quiet mar ket) amount to 32,270 bags, including 7500 Ameri can, 100 Maranhan, 370 Egyptian and 2700 Surat On speculation* and 1750 American and 300 Surat for expdrt. The quotations, according to the stand ard now adopted by the Brokers’ Association, are ; fair Uplands 7|d, fair Mobiles and fair Orleans 7£d per lb. The import of the week is 15,4-99 bales, fexclusive of four vessels arrived but not reported.” CH ST 2; Liverpool.— Ship Birmingham* — 6 Anvils; 2 casks Hardware, Bryce & Wilmans; 1743 sacks Salt, G. NEW YORK, July 31.— 'Cotton,— The steamer Washington, which arrived yesterday, brings us accounts from Liverpool to 14th, and from Havre to 13th inst. The sales at Liverpool for the week ended 9th, were 32,270 bales, at a decline of | •. per lb.; on the 9th, 4000 bales were sold; 13th, 6000; and 14th, 10,000 —closing with rather increased firmness, at well supported prices. The market here since our last has continued quiet, but as holders have not been anxious sellers, we have no change to notice in prices. The stock is estimated at about 110 a 115,000 bales, only a bout one-tenth of which is offered for sale. The Washington’s accounts, received yesterday, have as far as we can perceive, had no influence on our market, there having been too little done to estab lish any variation of moment. Fs ver is one of the most frequent and dangerous diseases to which the human body is liable. Its first impression is upon the nervous system, then j the vessels of the skin become deranged, produc ing dryness and burning heat. After this the gene rai system is involved, and the patient sinks beneath the attack, unless relieved by appropriate reme dies. Noxious effluvia and various miasma are the cause of fever, being infused throughout the atmos phere, and then breathed into the Jungs, when the i poison combines with the impure fluids of the body ami is carried by the circulating organs to the rami fications of the system. If, then, the animal frame is kept in a perfect, sound and healthy state, and every organ performing its functions properly* < there can be no union of the predisposing cause’ which is the noxious effluvia or marsh miasm, with the exciting, which is an impure state of the blood and depraved condition, and consequently no dis ease. In December follow ing, my cough increased to iff alarming extent, so that during that winter 1 lost about thirty file pounds of flesh, and physicians with whom 1 advised, could | give me no relief. It was thought by all that 1 should never recover. As my goodfortuue would haVe it, in March following, after suffering exceedingly through the winter. 1 heard of the beneficial effects of Wistar’s Balsam of Wild Cherry, byway of a friend who had received the greatest benefit by the use of the article, and was inclined by him to make a trial of it myself, and no words can express ray obligations to that friend for thus recommend ing this article to me, and at the critical moment he did,for I had not taked up one bottle before I was completely cured, and from that day to this have not been troubled with a cough. 1 can cheerfully recommend it to all, as being a remedy of great value, hoping others may be induced to use it, and thus become convinced of its merits, and perhaps saved from the fatal grasp of consumption.
