THIS valuable preparation combines all the
medicinal virtues of those articles, which long
experience has proved to possess the most safe
and efficient alterative and deobstruent properties,
or the cure of Scrofula, Kino’s Evil, W hile Swell
ings, Ulcers, Scrofulous. Cancerous and Indolent
Tumours; Mercurial and Syphilitic Affections. Kheti
mutism, Gout, Scurvey, Neuralgia or Tic-Doulou- i
reux, Cancer , Goitre or Bronchocelc, (swelled Aeck.) \
Enlargements of the Bones, Joints, Glands, or Liga
ments or of the Ovaries, Liver, Spleen, Kidneys, <yc.
All the diseases of the Skin, such as Tetter, Ring- I
worm. Biles, Pimples, Carbuncles, fyc., Dyspepsia
and Liver Complaint, Nervous Diseases. Dropsical ;
Swellings. Constitutional Disorders and diseases ori
ginating from a depraved or Impure stale of the
Blood or other fluids of the body.
Th» proprietor of this Alterative would most re
spectfully assure thr public that he has not offered j
this preparation (o their notice without due reflec
tion, and close and rigid study, nor until after
twelve years' experience had manifested its great
superiority over every other article of the kind. —
and he now recommends it with confidence, fully
believing that the above combination of medicines
will effectually eradicate from the system a class I
ol diseases some of which have heretofore been con
sidered incurable.
He has prescribed it in almost every variety of ;
illseases and with unparalleled success, especially 1
in cutaneous affections, cancerous, scrofulous and ;
scorbutic diseases, and diseases originating from
obstruction or enlargement of the glands or impuri
ty of the blood.
Cancer and Cancerous Tumors.
He has used this preparation in upwards of twen- ,
ty well defined cases of cancer and cancerous tu
mors, and in every case but one with perfect and ,
entire success.
I
Broncliocele or Goitre, (Swelled Neck.)
He has prescribed it in over a hundred cases of i
goitre, and it has never failed in a single instance to
completely remove the disease. Not a solitary
case of failure. All were cured.
The success he has met with in curing bronebo
cele and cancerous affections has convinced bun
that these dangerous and horrible diseases may be
removed with as much certainty as Fever and
Ague. He does not wish to be understood as say
ing that they can be cured «*■ soon as Fever and
Ague, but with as much certainty: and further, that
he has good reason for believing that this prepara- j
tion will not only cure these diseases when formed. I
but that it destroys the virus or poisonous principle
lurking in the system, from which that peculiar I
class of diseases, as well as that of scrofula emanate ■
Scrofula—King’s Evil.
This preparation has been used in numerous (
cases of scrofula, King’s Evil, and scrofulous swell
ings, and always with the most decided success.
Skin Diseases.
He has prescribed it in a great variety of cutane
ous affections, and found it successful in curing salt
rheum or tetter, biles, blotches, pimples, uiorphew i
and jaundiced skin, Ac.
Dyspepsia and Liver Complaint.
It has been used in numerous cases of liver com- !
plaint and Dyspepsia, and with the happiest effect.
Tic-Douloureux.
It has been used in several cases of Neuralgia, ;
axid in every case it was successful.
Rheumatism.
This preparation has been prescribed in a great
many cases of chronic rheumatism, and in every,
case in which it was used until the system became
affected by the medicine, the disease was removed,
y GOUt.
A number ofjeases of gout have been cured by '
this preparation. In one of these cases, the man
had been afflicted with it so severely for thirteen
years as to entirely disable him from business, and
for live months immediately previous to his taking
the Alterative he had been confined to his room;
but before he had finished the third bottle, he was
enabled to walk about the streets and soon after re
turned to his business, from which he had so long
been excluded by his affliction.
Dropsical Swallings.
This medicine increases the powers of digestion
excites the absorbents into healthy exercise, by
which watery or calcareous depositions, and all un
natural enlargements are reduced. It imparts
tone and vitality to the whole system, removing
sick and m irbid headaches, giddiness, wandering
pains and nervous affections.
In fact, in every case where the medicine has
been taken for some time, no matter for what pur
pose, the general health of the patient has always
been improved by it.
In conclusion, the proprietor would say that some
of the most astonishing cases of skin diseases, can
cer, bronchocele, and scrofula, have been cured by
this medicine, that have ever been recorded; but
want of room in this sheet precludes their publica
tion at this time.
Cancer.
An interesting case cured by Jayne’s Alterative.
In the spring of 1831, a cancerous tumor appear
ed in the right breast of Mrs. Phmbe, wife of Peter
Stretch, of Salem N. J. It was examined by many
Physicians, and was considered by ail as cancerous,
and besides bore all the characteristic marks of
one. All probable means of removing it were used
without the slightest benefit. It continued to in
crease both in size and painfulness, until ail hope
of saving her life, but by a painful operation, was
abandoned, which, after a consultation of eminent
Physicians, was performed. Jan. Ist, 1832. by Or.
John Rhea Barton, assisted by Dr. Redman, the
proprietor, and two other medical gentlemen. The
whole and entire right breast was removed, and af
ter examination of the tumor, was pronounced by
all present a cancer of the most malignant charac
ter. In about three months, after enduring incredi
ble sufferings, she was enabled, though broken in
spirit, to get about again. She remained feeble,
and her general health was exceedingly bad, as in
deed it had been for several years before. In the
spring of 1837, upwards of five years after her breast
had been removed, a painful tumor made its ap
pearance on the right side, immediately over the
part formerly occupied by the nipple of the right
breast, previous to its removal. This tumor steadi
ly increased for several months, and became so
painful as to deprive her of rest. The glands un
der the right arm were enlarged; and scirrhus, and :
ahard, irregular, and at times painful tumour, ap
peared in the left breast. No operation could now j
arrest the disease. Indeed her whole body appear
td to be a mass of disease. Her case was consid
ered hopeless. She was of a very scrofulous habit,
eoth her parents having died of Pulmonary con
bumption. The experiment was now made with
this Alterative. It was at first given in small doses,
three times a day, and the doses very gradually,
but steadily increased daily, as long as she took it,
wdiich was about six months, and the skin over and
around the tumour was wet night and morning with
a strong solution of lodine and Hydriodate Potash.
The tumour continued increasing in size for about
fcix weeks, and was at times very painful, when the
pain suddenly ceased altogether, and the tumour
swelled out at the base, and became soft, and then
began to diminish, and continued gradually dec reus
ing until every vestige of disease was removed.—
The tumour in her left breast, and those in her
right exilla were also dispersed. No cancerous or
scrofulous tumours ever appeared afterwards; and
her general health, which had been so bad for four
teen years as lo make life a burthen, was effectu
ally and permanently restored. The proprietor is
jn possessiori of the diseased breast, and those; who
choosy may examine it. Jle would also say that
he could mention over a eases equally inter
esting, wherein his Alterative has subdued cancer
and cancerous tumours, but he has not room here
to record them.
Mrs. Sarah Young, of Quinton’s Bridge, N. J., had
a goitrous tumour on the left side of her w indpipe,
as large as the half of an orange, which w r as cured
by using this Alterative for about four months.
Miss R S -, South Fourth-street, Phila?
tlelphia, was also cured of an enlargement of,the
throat, which tilled the entire space between the
chin and breast-hone, and extended around on each
side of her neck to behind her ears, and from her
ears to her shoulders, and produced awful deformi
ty. It commenced growing when she was but live
years old. and continued gradually to increase mi
ld she was nineteen, at which time she commenced
using this Alterative, which she look fur seven
months, which entirely reduced the enlargement;
and she has now as smooth and pretty a neck as can
be found. The proprietor is not at liberty to give
her name in print, but will refer persons to her*

Surprising Efficacy.
MY EAU DIVINE DE VENUS and NYMPH
SOAP, composed of an Eastern Botanical dis
covery of surprising efficacy, for rendering the
Skin soft and fair, as well as imparting a delicate
roseate hue to the complexion.
As a creator and conservator of that most distin
guishing charm of female loveliness, a transparent
lair skin, Jules Hand's Nymph Soap of Eau Divine ,
De Venus may be said to exert an almost magical
power. Composed for the most part of Oriental
Balsamic Plants, to the utter exclusion all mine
ral admixture, it is distinguished medicinally for its
extremely bland, purifying and soothing action on
the skin; and by acting on the pores and minute se
cretory 7 vessels, expels all impurities from the sur
face, allays every tendency to imffammation, and
by 1 this method alone, effectually 7 dissipates all red
ness, tan, prinples, freckles, sunburn and other (in
sightful cutanfeous visitations, so inimical to female |
lovliness. Its use will change the most bilious com
plexion into one of radiant whiteness; while on the

fairness which its continued use will happily pro- ,
tect, and every appearance of youthful charm, to

HOW AWFULLYCULP ABLET"
TO NEGLECT USING THE GENUINE
DR. TAYLOR’S BALSAM OF LIVERWORT.
375 Bowery, N. Y.
MUST those be who have Pulmonary 7 Consump- i
tion, or any affection of the Lungs, Liver or
Chest, after reading the following letter, just re
ceived from a most respectable inhabitant of West
chester County New York.
Tarrytown, Aug. 9, 1844.
Dear Doctor—lt is difficult to find words to ex
press the gratitude which 1 feel towards you for
the interest you have taken to relieve me in my i
distress. In the year 1842 I contracted a heavy |
cold, which finally settled on my lungs; in a few ;
1 months after, 1 commenced coughing and raising
offensive matter, w hich smelt very bad. Having
j heard that Sherman's Lozenges were good for a
i coughs 1 tried a few boxes of them, but they had
j not the least effect on me. I then called in the
best physicians in the place, who attended me a
j few months, but without success; I then saw an ad
vertisement in one of the city papers of Wistars
Balsam of Wild Cherry, of which 1 pure based three
1 bottles, at the corner of Fulton and Nassau streets,
but 1 could not perceive the least beneficial effect
from it, on the contrary 1 think it was a great in
jury to me. Shortly after using it, 1 commenced
raising blood in large quantities; 1 was taken down
sick and conliued to the house for three months,
during which time 1 lost my appetite and fell away
j very fast; I was then induced to consult Dr. Curtis
,of New r York, (one of the best physicians in the
city,) but he could do me no good. 1 again became
j worse, and was confined to the house all last winter
and spring, and I gave up all hope of ever getting
any better, as I again raised blood and my 7 cough
was very severe, together with a pain in my
breast and under the shoulder blade.- My friends
now gave up all hope of my recovering, and thought
every day was the last. About this time 1 heard
of your BALSAM OF 1 LIVERWORT being good
for consumption, but 1 was like many others, and
was fearful that it might be a regular humbug; I
however finally 7 consented to try it, as 1 thought it
could make me no w 7 orse. My 7 brother then pnr- [
chsed a bottle of kat 373 Bowery 7 , N . Y., and
commenced taking it, and by the time I had used
one bottle full I could sleep all night, and in the
morning 1 had an appetite for my breakfast, I still
keep on taking it and find great benefit from it—the
pain in my 7 breast is entirely gone, and I raise no
j more blood. Within the last two months I have
gained in weight six pounds and much in strength.
' 1 would therefore, advise all who have any affec
tion of the Lungs or Inver to try the Genuine Dr.
Taylor’s Balsam of Liverwort, for 1 truly believe
I it to be the best remedy in existence for diseases
of the Lungs or Liver. Should any 7 one doubt the
above statement relative to your valuable medicine,
let him call on me, and I w 7 ill convince him of its
j virtues. Yours, respectfully, DE REVERE.

GALVANIC RINGS AND
Magnetic Fluid.
THIS remarkable invention, which has received
the almost universal approbation of the Medi
j eal Profession of Great Britain, comprises an en
tirely new application of Galvanism, as a remedial
agent, by means of which the ordinary Galvanic
Batteries, Electric and Magnetic Machines, Ac.,
are entirely dispensed with, and the mysterious
powers of Galvanism applied without any of the
objections Which are inseparable from the general
mode now in use. The strong doses, and at irreg
ular intervals, in which Galvanism is applied by the
Machines, has been pronounced after a fair and im
partial trial, to be decidedly injurious, and it was to
remedy this radical defect, that this new applica
tion was projected, which after unceasing toil and
perseverance has been brought to its present state
of perfection. The Galvartic Kings answer ail the
purposes of the most expensive Machines, and in
many other respects are more safe and certain in
accomplishing the desired effect,
j The Galvanic Rings, used in connection with the
Magnetic Fluid, are confidently recommended in
, all disorders which drisc from an •enfeebled or un
\ healthy state of the nervous or vital system, and those
) complaints are among the most painful and univer
-1 sal to which we arc subject. They arise, without
i exception, to one single cause—a derangement of
! the Nervous system —and it was in those cases that
j other “ remedies ” having so often-failed, a new
j agent was «reatly needed, which it is confidently
; believed, has been found iu the proper and judi
cious application of Galvanism.
The Galvanic Rings have been used with entire ,
success in all cases of Rheumatism, acute or chronic,
applying to the head, face or limbs; Gout, Tic-
Uoloreux, Toothache, Bronchitis, Vertigo, Nervous
1 or Sick Headache, Indigestion, Paralyses, Palsy,
Epilepsy, Fits, Cramp, Palpitation of the Heart, Ap-
I poplexy, Stiffness of Joints, Spinal Complaints, Lum- !
bago, Neuralgia, A errors Tremors, Dizziness of the
Head, Pains in the Chest and Side, General Debil
itv, Deficiency of A : ervous ami Physical Energy, and
all Nervous Disorders. In cases of confirmed Dys
pepsia, which is simply a nervous derangement of
’ the digestive organs, they have been found equally
1 successful. Their extraordinary effects upon the
i system must be witnessed to be believed, and as a
certain Preventive for the preceding complaints |
they are equally recommended. The Rings are of j
i different prices, being made of all sizes, and of va- !
I rious ornamental patterns, and can be worn by the j
t most delicate female without the slightest incon
venience. In fact the sensation is rather agreea
ble than otherwise.
The Galvanic Belts, Bracelets, Bauds,
Garters, Necklaces, Ac.
In some cases of a very severe character and of
long standing the power as applied by the Galvanic j
Kings is not sufficient to arrest the progress of dis
) ease and ultimately to restore health. The improv
ed modification in the Galvanic Belts, Bracelets,
SfC., entirely remedies this objection ; any degree
of power that is required can readily be obtained,
j and no complaint which the mysterious agent of
I Galvanism can effect will fail to be permanently re
lieved. These articles are adapted to the waist, arms,
wrists, limbs, ancles, or any part of the body with
perfect convenience. The Galvanic Necklaces, are
1 used with greater benefit in cases of Bronchitis or
j affections of the throat generally; also in cases of
i Nervous Deafness; and with almost uniform success
j as a preventive for Apoplexy, Epileptic Fits, and
I similar complaints.
CHRISTIE’S MAGNETIC FLUID.
Is issued in connection with the Galvanic Rings,
j and all their modifications. This composition has
i been pronounced by Hits French Chemists to be
; one ot the most extraordinary discoveries of tnod
| ern science. It is believed to possess a remarkable
I power of rendering the Nerves sensitive to Galvanic
action, by these means causing a circulation of the j
influence at the seat of disease, and thus giving ra- ;
pid and permanent relief No other composition in |
chemistry is known to produce the Same effect or !
i to impart a similar property to the nervous system j
hv means of an outward lodal application. The
Magnetic Fluid contains nothing capable of the
slightest injury, its application is agreeable, and it
1 is as harmless in its action as it is beneficial in its
result. The combined inventions are in every Way
' perfectly harmless ; they are at prices within reach
of all, and the discoverer only requests a fair trial,
as a test of their surprising efficacy and permanent
j benefit.
Christie’s Galvanic Strengthening Plas
ters.
These articles form another valuable application
and the mysterious influence of Galvanism. They
are too important adjuncts to the genuine Galvanic
Rings and their modifications,. acting upon the
same principle, but having this advantage of more
local application. They are confidently recom
mended as a valuable addition in the speedy cure
of Rheumatism, acute or chronic ; in all nervous
complaints, and as a positive remedy in cases of
Pain and Weakness in the Chest or Back, Pain in
the Side, Asthmatic Affections, and in Weakness
or Oppression of the Pulmonary Organs. In Spi
nal Complaints, their effects are ol the most decided
character, and they have often been used with
complete success. They are also of the greatest
advantage in Pains and Weakness ot the Breast,
and are highly recommended for many ol those
complaints to which females are especially liable.
As an effectual means for Strengthening the sys
tem when debilitated by disease or other causes;
as a certain aid in Constitutional Weakness, as a
Preventive for Colds, and in all affections of the
; Chest, generally, the Galvanic Strengthening Plas
ter, will be found of great and permanent advantage,
j In a few words, it embraces all the virtues of the
j best tonic preparation with the important addition
j of the Galvanic influence, which is neither impair
| ed or exhausted, while the action continues. These
articles will be found entirely free from those ob
jections which arc a constant source of complaint
j with the ordinary Plasters in common use,
. (Ur’The great celebrity and success of these ar
! tides have caused them to be counterfeited by un-
I principled persons. To provide against impositions,
j Dr. Christie has but one authorized agent in each
; city of the Union. The only Agency in Augusta,

DR. JOEL BRANHAM’S LIVER AND
DYSPEPTIC MEDICINE.
IN offering this valuable medicine to the people
of Georgia, for the relief and cure of many dis- I
eases incident to a Southern climate, I do not claim
for it infallibility; neither do I say it wall cure all ;
diseases. But in Chronic Liver Affections and |
Dyspepsia, I can confidently advise and recom- j
mend its use, from my personal observation and use !
of the article in my own practice. This article is !
favorably received wherever it has been used. I
am allowed to refer to 3lr. George Heard of Troup, (
; 3lr. John Warren of Columbus, 3lr. 31cKaffee of |
| Cobb, Mr. Asbury Hull of Athens, 31r. W illiam 1).
j Terrell of Putnam, Rev. John E. Dawson of La
j grange; to which a great number of names might
i be added, who bear their testimony to its value.—
| Dr. Henry Branham has used this medicine in his
own case, and has prescribed it to many others,
gives it as his opinion, that it is one of the safest
and most valuable medicines that can be used in I
imperfect digestion, liver complaints, constipation
and irregular state of the bow r els. It is useful in j
biiiious complaints, to persons recovering from bil
lions fevers, and in sick or nervous head-ache. To
pregnant w-ofilen, who are subject to costiveness,
this medicine is well suited. In regulating the state i
of the stomach and bow els, and promoting
it is particularly useful.
I could append a long list of certificates, hut for- |
bear, preferiug to rely on the virtues of the medi
cine to sustain itself. The medicine is a gentle and i
certain cathartic, tonic and sudorific.

DR. T.P tSOVS ~ ;
VEGETABLE UNIVERSAL PILLS.
THE startling drawback on nearly all Medicinal
Agents has ever been that in their process of pur- j
gation and purification, they have also Debilitated \
the System. Hence Purgative 3ledicines have al- j
ways been regarded as at best but a Necessary
Evil; Patients resorting to them for the relief of
one disease at the expense of another. To obviate
this. Physicians have long sought for an Agent that
would at the same time
PURGE PURIFY AND STRENGTHEN.
But their efforts were nearly fruitless, and they i
had almost despaired of success when the labors ol j
science and research, were rewarded by a discov- ,
ery which fully realized the fondest desires of t he
3ledical Faculty, and which is justly regarded as ■
one of the most important Triumphs that Pharmacy
has ever achieved. This important desideratum is
named
Dr. Le Roy’s Vegetable Universal Pills.
Which Purify the Blood, and remove all corrupt j
and vitiated humors, and unhealthy accumulations from
the body in a manner never before rivalled, and
which yet produce no weakness or lassitude what
ever, but on the contrary, tone the Stomach, and
invigorate the constitution during the progress of
their operation. Dr. Le Roy’s Pills, in fact, unite
those heretofore irreconcilable, but most desirable
qualities, Evacuation and Invie-oralion, for they are
at the same time a STRENGTHENING PURGA
TIVE, AND A PURIFYING TONIC.
'1 he two paincipal ingredients In Dr. Le Ray’s
Pills are
WILD CHERRY & SARSAPARILLA.
»So prepared that each promotes the beneficial ef
fect of the other, the former strengthening, w hile
the latter, through its union wath various vegetable
ingredients, evacuates and purifies; thus they su
perinduce no torpidity or lassitude of the the Diges
tive Functions, and hence their operations are at
tended by no Re-action or Subsequent Costiveness.
Dr. Le Roy’s Pills are the most active and search
ing 3ledicine in existence. They at once attack
the very root of Diseases, and their action is so ;
prompt that in an hour or two after they are taken, ,
the patient is aware of their good effects. They j
not only operate on the Blood, but also on the chyle,
of which the Blood is formed, and this secures good
blood from the fountain head, moreover, they pro
duce neither nausea, griping or debility, and as a
family medicine they have no rival. Brice 25 cts. i
per box.
