rfIHIS valuable preparation combines all the
JL medicinal virtues ol' those articles, which long
experience has proved to possess the most safe
and efficient alterative and deobstruent properties,
or the cure of Scrofula, Kino’s Evil. White Swell
ings, deers, Scrofulous, Cancerous and Indolent
Tumours; Mercurial and Syphilitic Ass ections. Rkcu- \

and Liver Complaint , Nervous Diseases, Dropsical
Siceilings. Constitutional Disorders and diseases ori
ginating from a depraved or Impure state of the
Itlood or other fluids of the body.
The proprietor of this Alterative would most re
spectfully assure the public that he has ned offered
*his preparation to their notice without due reiiec-
Mon, and close and rigid study, nor until after
*welve years’ experience had manifested its great
Superiority over every other article of the kind, —
* l nd he now recommends it with confidence, fully
believing that the above combination of medicines
will -effectually eradicate from the svstem a class
of diseases some of which have heretofore been con
sidered incurable.
He has prescribed it In almost every variety bf
diseases and with unparalleled success, especially
in cutaneous affections, cancerous, scrofulous and
scorbutic diseases, and diseases originating from
obstruction or enlargement of the glands or impuri
ty of the blood.
Cancer and Cancerous Tumors.
He has used this preparation in upwards of twen
ty well defined cases of cancer and cancerous tu -
mors, and in eVery case but one with perfect and
entire success.
Bronchocele or Goitre, (Swelled Neck.)
He has prescribed it in over a hundred cases of
goitre, and it has never failed in a single instance to
completely remove the disease. Not a solitary
case of failure. All Were cured.
The success he has met with in curing hronhho
cele and cancerdCs affections has convinced him
that these dangerous and horrible diseases may be
removed with As flinch Certainty as Fever and
Ague. He does ndt wish to be understood as say
ing that they can tte cured as soon as Fever and
Ague, but with as much certainty; arid further, that
lie has good reason for believing that this
tion will not only Cure these diseases when formed,
but that it destroys the virus or poisonous principle
lurking in the sy stem, from which that peculiar
class of diseases, as vieli as that of scrofula emanate
* Scrofula—King’s Evil.
Tbi' preparation has been used in numerous
cases of scrofula, King’s Evil, and scrofulous swell
ings, and always With the mosft decided success.
Skin Diseases.
He has proscribed it in a great Variety of cutane

Rheumatism.
This preparation has been prescribed in a great
many cases of chronic rheumatism, and in every
case in which it was used until the system became
affected by the medicine, the disease was remoted.
Gout.
A number of cases of gout have been cured bv
this preparation. In one of these cases, the man
had been afiiicted with it so severely for thirteen
years as to entirely disable him from business, and
for five months immediately previous to his taking
the Alterative he had been confined to his room;
but before he had finished the third bottle, he was
enabled to walk about the streets and soon after re
turned to his business, from which he had so long
been excluded by his ailliction.
Dropsical Swellings,
This medicine increases the powers of digestion
excites the absorbents into healthy exercise, by
which watery or calcareous depositions, and all un
natural enlargements are reduced. It imparts
;tsne and vitality to the whole system, removing j
-sick and morbid headaches, giddiness, wandering
pains and nervous affections.
Li fact, in every case where the medicine has
been taken for some time, no matter for what pur
pose, the general health of the patient has always
•been improved by it.
In conclusion, the proprietor would say that some
the most astonishing cases of skin diseases, can
cer, bronchocele. and scrofula, have been cured bv
this medicine, that have ever been recorded; but
want of room in this sheet precludes their publica
tion at this time.
Cancer.
An interesting rase cured by Jayne's Alterative.
In the spring of 1831, a cancerous tumor appear
ed in the right breast of Mrs. Phcebe, wife of Peter
Stretch, of Salem N, J. It was examined by many
Physicians, and was considered by all as cancerous,
and besides bore all the characteristic marks of
one. All probable means of removing it were used
without the slightest benefit. It continued to in
crease both in size and painfulness, until all hope
of saving her life, but by a painful operation, was
abandoned, which, after a consultation of eminent
Physicians, was performed. Jan. Ist, 1832, by Dr.
John Rhea Barton, assisted by Dr. Redman, the
proprietor, and two other medical gentlemen. The
whole and entire right breast was removed, and af
ter examination of the tumor, was pronounced by
gll present a cancer of the most malignant charac
ter. In about three months, after enduring incredi
ble sufferings, she was enabled, though broken in
spirit, to get about again. She remained feeble,
and her general health was exceedingly bad, as in
deed it had been for several years before. In the
spring of 1837, upwards of five years after her breast
had been removed, a painful tumor made its ap- ;
pcarance on the right side, immediately over the :
{iart formerly occupied by the nipple of the right |
>reast, previous to its removal. This tumor steadi- J
iy increased for several months, and became so I
painful as to deprive her of rest. The glands un- 1
der the right arm were enlarged; and scirrhus, and
ahard, irregular, and at times painful tumour, ap
peared in the left breast. No operation could now
arrest the disease. Indeed her whole body appear*
td to be a mass of disease. Her case was consid
ered hopeless. She was of a very scrofulous habit,
«oth her parents having died of Pulmonary con
bumption, The experiment was now made with
»bi» Alterative, It was at first given in small doses,
three times a day, and the doses very gradually,
but steadily increased daily, as long as she took it,
which was about six months, and the skin over and >
around the tumour was wet night and morning with
a strong solution of lodine and Hydriodate Potash.
The tumour continued increasing in size for about
aix weeks, and. was at times very painful, when the
pain suddenly ceased altogether, and the tumour j
swelled out at the-base, and became soft, and then
began to diminish, and continued gradually decreas
ing until every vestige of disease was removed.—
The tumour in her left breast, and those in her
right exilla were also dispersed. No cancerous or
scrofulous tumours ever appeared afterwards; and
her general health, which had been so bad for four,
teen years as to make life a burthen, was effectu
ally and permanently restored. The proprietor is
in possession of the diseased breast, and those, who
choose may examine it. He would also say that
he could mention over a dozen cases equally inter
esting, wherein his Alterative has subdued cancer
and cancerous tumours, but he has not room here
to record them.
Mrs. Sarah Youngs of Quinton’s Bridge, N. J., had
a goitrous tumour on the left side of her windpipe,
as large as the halt of an orange, which was cured
Alterative for about four months.
, ’ p "7 South Fourth-street, Phila
delphia, was also cured of an enlargement of the
throat, Which filled the entire space between the
chin and breast-bone, and extended around on each
side of her neck to behind her ears, and from her
ears to her shoulders, and produced awful deformi
ty. It commenced growing when she was but five
years old, and continued gradually to increase un
til she was nineteen, at which time she commenced
using this Alterative, which she took for seven
months, which entirely reduced the enlargement;
and she has now as smooth and pretty a neck as can
be found. The proprietor is not at liberty to give
her name in print, but will refer persons to her.

HOW AWFULLY CULPABLE.
TO NEGLECT USING THE GENUINE
DR. TAYLOR S BALSAM OF LIVERWORT.
375 Bowery, N. Y.
MUST those be who have Pulmonary Consump
tion, or any affection of the Lungs, Liver or !
Chest, after reading the following letter, just re
ceived from a most respectable inhabitant of West
chester County New Y ork.
Takrytown, Aug. 9,18 ft.
Dear Doctor—lt is difficult to find words to ex
press the gratitude which I feel towards you for
the interest you have taken to relieve me in my j
distress. In the year 1812 I contracted a heavy 1
cold, which finally settled on my lungs; in a few
i months after, I commenced coughing and raising ,
i offensive matter, which smelt very back Having |
j heard that Sherman’s Lozenges were good for a
i coughs I tried a few boxes of them, but they had
{ not the least effect on me. I then called in the
I best physicians in the place, who attended me a
few months, but without success; I then saw an ad
vertisement in one of the city papers of Wistar’s
Balsam of Wild Cherry, of which I purchased three
bottles, at the corner of Fulton and Nassau streets,
but I could not perceive the least beneficial effect
from it, on the contrary 1 think it was a great in
jury to me. Shortly after using it, I commenced
raising blood in large quantities; I was taken down
sick and confiued to the house for tluae months,
during which time I lost my appetite and fell away
very fast; I was then induced to consult Dr. Curtis
of New York, (one of the best physicians in the
* city.) but he could do me no good. I again became
worse, and was confined to the house all last winter
and spring, and I gave up all hope of ever- getting
any better, as I again raised blood and my cough
was very severe, together with a pain in my
1 breast and under the shoulder blade. My friends
now gave up all hope of my recovering, and thought
every day was the last. About this time I heard
of your BALSAM-OF LIVERWORT being good
for consumption, but I was like many others, and
was fearful that it might be a regular humbug; I
however finally consented to try it, as I thought it
could make me no worse. My brother then pur
chsed a bottle of it at 375 Bowery, N. Y., and
commenced taking it, and by the time I had used
one bottle full I could sleep all night, and in the ;
morning I had an appetite for my breakfast. I still j
keep on taking it and find great benefit from it—the
pain in my breast is entirely gone, and I raise no
more blood. Within the last two months I have
gained in weight six pounds and much in strength, |
I would therefore, advise all who have any affec
tion of the Lungs or Liver to try the Genuine Dr,
Taylor’s Balsam of Liverwort, for I truly believe
it to be the best remedy in existence for diseases
of the Lungs or Liver. Should any one doubt the
above statement relative to your valuable medicine,
let him call on me, and I will convince him of its
virtues. Yours, respectfully, DE REVERE.

The great deniand for this most important work,
(of which thousands are sold] has compelled the is

for the married, as it discloses important secrets
which should be known to them particularly.—
Here every female can discover the causes, symp
toms, and the most efficient remedies and most
certain mode of cure, in every complaint to which
her sex is subject.
It is an important question to the married why it
is, that we behold so many married females sickly,
debilitated, and prostrated ? as, also, the causes,
and whether they are susceptible of remedy. They
will here find those important matters, connected
with discoveries in medical and physiological sci
ence, which meet this question.
This work is destined to be in the hands of every
wife and mother who has a regard for her own
health and welfare, as well as that of her husband.
The revelations contained in its pages have al
ready proved a blessing to thousands as the innu
merable letters received by the author will attest.
It is of course impossible to convey more fully,
in a public journal, the various subjects treated < f
as they are of a nature strictly intended for the
married or those contemplating marriage ; neither
is it necessary, since it is every one's duty to be
come possessed of knowledge, whereby the suffer
ings to which a wife, a mother, or a sister may be
subject, can be obviated.

Magnetic Fluid.
I ri IHIS remarkable invention, which has received
,jL the almost universal approbation of the Medi
cal Profession of Great Britain, comprises an en
tirely' new application of Galvanism, as a remedial
agent, by means of which the ordinary Galvanic
o ßatteries. Electric and Magnetic Machines, Ac..
! arc entirely dispensed with, and the mysterious
powers of Galvanism applied without any of the
objections which are inseparable from the general |
mode now in use. The strong doses, and at irreg
ular intervals, in which Galvanism is applied by the
Machines, has been pronounced after g fair and im
partial trial, to be decidedly injurious, and it was to
remedy' this radical defect, that this new applica
tion was projected, which after unceasing toil and
perseverance has been brought to its present state
of perfection. The Galvanic Rings answer all the
purposes of the most expensive Machines, and in
many other respects are morb safe and certain in
accomplishing the desired effect.
The Galvanic Rings, used in connection with the’
Magnetic Fluid, are confidently recommended in
all disorders tchich aiise from an enfeebled or un
healthy state of the tiei-vous or vital system, and those
complaints are among the most painful and univer
sal to which we are subject. They without
, exception, to one single cause—a derangement of
the Nervous system —and it was in these cases that
other “remedies” having so often failed, a new
agent was greatly 7 needed, which it is confidently
believed, has been found in the proper and judi
cious application of Galvanism.
The Galvanic Rings have been used with entire
success in all cases of Rheumatism, acute or chronic,
applying to the head, face or limbs: Gout, Tic
, Doloreux, Toothache, Bronchitis, Vertigo, Nervous
or Sick Headache, Indigestion, Paralyses, Palsy,
Epilepsy, Fits, Cramp, Palpitation of the Heart, Ap
poplexy, Stiffness of Joints, Spinal Complaints, Lum
bago, Neuralgia, Nervovs Tremors, Dizziness of the
Head, Pains in the Chest and Side, General Debil
itu, Defciency of Nervous and Physical Energy, and
all Nervous Disorders. In cases of confirmed Dys
pepsia, which is simply a nervous derangement of
I the digesjjvedorgans, they have been found equally
successful. Their extraordinary effects upon the
system must he witnessed to be believed, and as a
• certain Preventive for the preceding complaints
they 7 are equally recommended. The Rings are of
different prices, being made of all sizes, and of va
-1 rious ornamental patterns, and can he worn by the
! most delicate female without the slightest incon
venience. In fact the sensation is rather agreea
ble than otherwise.
The Galvanic Belts, Bracelets, Bands,
Garters, Necklaces, Ac.
In some cases of a very severe character and of
long standing the power as applied by the Galvanic
Rings is not sufficient to arrest the progress of dis
ease and ultimately to restore health. The improv
, ed modification in the Galvanic Belts, Bracelets,
Sr r -, entirely remedies this objection ; any degree
of power that is required can readily be obtained,
and no complaint which the mysterious agent of
> Galvanism can effect will fail to be permanently re
lieved. These articles are adapted to the waist, arms,
wrists, limbs, ancles, or any part of the body with
perfect convenience. The Galvanic Necklaces, are
used with greater benefit in cases of Bronchitis or
i affections of the throat generally ; also in cases of
Nervous Deafness; and with almost uniform success
as a preventive for Apoplexy, Epileptic Fits, and
similar complaints.
CHRISTIE’S MAGNETIC FLUID.
■ ;Is issued in connection with the Galvanic Rings,
| and all their modifications. This composition has
been pronounced by the French Chemists to be
one of the most extraordinary discoveries of mod
ern science. It is believed to possess a remarkable
power of rendering the Nerves sensitive to Galvanic
action, by these means pausing a circulation of the
influence at the scut of disease, and thus giving ra
pid and permanent relief. No other composition in
chemistry is known to produce the same effect or
to impart a similar property to the nervous system
by means of an outward local application. The
Magnetic Fluid contains nothing capable of the
slightest injury, its application is agreeable, and it
is as harmless in its action as it is beneficial in its
result. The combined inventions are in every' way
! perfectly harmless ; they are at prices within rfeach
of all. and the discoverer only requests a fair trial,
as a test of their surprising efficacy and permanent
benefit.
Christie’s Galvanic Strengthening Plas
ters.
These articles fonn another valuable application
1 and the mysterious influence of Galvanism. They
are too important adjuncts to the genuine Galvanic
Rings ami their modifications, acting upon the
same principle, but having this advantage of more
local application. They are confidently reccm
j mended as a valuable addition iu the speedy cure
Jof Rheumatism, acute or chronic; in all nervous
I complaints, and as a positive remedy in cases of
1 Rain and Weakness in the Chest or Back, Rain in
J the Side, Asthmatic Affections, and in Weakness
or Oppression of the Pulmonary Organs. In Spi
nal Complaints, their effects are of the most decided
chtyacter, and they have often been used with
complete success. They are also of the greatest
advantage in Pains and Weakness of the Breast,
and are highly recommended for many of those
complaints to which females are especially liable.
As an effectual means for Strengthening the sys
tem when debilitated by disease or other causes;
as a certain aid in Constitutional \\ eakfless, as a
Preventive for Colds, and in all affections of the
Chest, generally, the Galvanic Strengthening Pias
ter, will be found of great and permanent advantage.
In a few words, it embraces all the virtues of the
best tonic preparation with the important addition
of the Galvanic influence, which is neither impair- i
ed or exhausted, while the action continues. These
articles will be found entirely free from those ob
jections which are a constant source of complaint
i with the ordinary Plasters in common use.
i [JjPThe great celebrity and success of these ar
ticles have caused them to be counterfeited by un
principled persons. To provide against impositions,
Dr. Christie has but one authorized agent in each
city of the Union. The only' Agency in Augusta,
j Geo., is at the Store of
HAVILAND, RISLEY A CO., Druggists.
All articles of the kind sold elsewhere, are worth
less counterfeits. 43 Sept. 28

DH. JOEL BRANHAM’S LIVER AND
DYSPEPTIC MEDICINE.
IN offering this valuable medicine to the people
of Georgia, for the relief and cure of many dis
eases incident to a Southern climate, I do not claim
tor it infallibility; neither do I say it will cure all
diseases. But in Chronic Liver Affections and
Dyspepsia, I can confidently* advise and recom- |
noend its use. from my personal observation and use ■
of the article in rny own practice. This article is j
favorably* received wherever it has been used. I
am allowed to refer to Mr. George Heard of Troup.
Mr. John Warren of Columbus, Mr. McKaffee of
Cobb, Mr. Asbury Hull of Athens, Mr. William I).
Terrell of Putnam, Rev. John E. Dawson of La
grange; to which a great number of names might
be added, who hear their testimony to its value.—
Dr. Henry Branham lias used this medicine in his
own case, and has prescribed it to many others,
gives it as his opinion, that it is one of the safest
and most valuable medicines that can be used in
imperfect digestion, liver complaints, constipation I
and irregular state of the bowels, it is useful in
billions complaints, to persons recovering from bil
lions fevers, and in sick or nervous head-ache. To
pregnant women, who are subject to costiveness, !
this medicine is well suited. In regulating the state
of the stomach and bowels, and promoting digestion,
it is particularly useful.
I could append a long list of certificates, but for- j
bear, prefering to rely on the virtues of the medi
cine to sustain itself. The medicine is a gentle and ;
certain cathartic, tonic and sudorific.

XSR. LEI TJOY’S
VEGETABLE UNIVERSAL PILLS.
THE startling drawback on nearly all Medicinal
Agents has ever been that in their process of pur
gation and purification, they* have also Debilitated
ike System. Hence Purgative Medicines have al
ways been regarded as at best but a Necessary j
Evil; Patients resorting to them for the relief of
one disease at the expense of another. To ohviate j
this, Physicians have long sought for an Agent that
would at the same time ' 1
PURGE PURIFY AND STRENGTHEN.
But their efforts were nearly fruitless, and they
had almost despaired of success when the labors of
science and research, were rewarded bv a discov
ery which fully realized the fondest desires of the ;
Medical Faculty', and which is justly regarded as
one of the most important Triumphs that Pharmacy
has ever achieved. 'Phis important desideratum is
named
Dr. Le Roy’s Vegetable Universal Pills.
\\ Inch Purify the Blood, and remove all corrupt
and. vitiated humors, and unhealthy accumulations from
the body in a manner never before rivalled, and
which yet produce no weakness or lassitude what
ever, but on the contrary, tone the Stomach, and
invigorate the constitution during the progress of
their operation. Dr. Le Roy’s Pills, in fact, unite
those heretofore irreconcilable, but most desirable
qualities, Evacuation and Jnvigoration, for they are
at the same time a STRENGTHENING PURGA
TIVE, AND A PURIFYING TONIC.
The two paincipal ingredients in Dr. Le Roy's
Pills are
W.LD CHERRY & SARSAPARILLA.
J'o prepared that each promotes the beneficial of- |
feet of the other, the former strengthening, while
the latter, through its union with various vegetable
ingredients, evacuates and purifies; thus thev su
perinduce no torpidity or fassitude of the the Diges
tive Functions, and hence their operations are at
tended by no Re-action or Subsequent Costiveness, i
Dr. Le Roy’s Pills are the most active and search
ing Medicine in existence. They at once attack
the very' root of Diseases, and their action is so
prompt that in an hour or two after they are taken,
the patient is aware of their good effects. They
not only* operate on the Blood, but also on the chyle, i
of which the Blood is formed, and this secures good
blood from the fountain head, moreover, they pro- j
duce neither nausea, griping or debility, and as a
family medicine they have no rival. Price 25 cts. |
per box.
