Wistar’s Balsam of Wild Cherry
A single statement like tin following ought to
be a sufficient inducement to any one suffering
with diseased lungs to make a trial of Wistar’s
Balsam, and test its virtues in their own case.
Florence, Oneida Co., N. Y.,May, 1846.
Mr. S. W. Fowle—Dear Sir: I take pleasure in
stating to you my experience in the use of Wistar’s
Balsam of Wild Cherry.
Sometime in February, 1815, I was attacked
with a difficulty of the lungs, which brought me
in appearance, to the brink of the grave. I con
sulted those who were called skillful physicians,
who pronounced ray case incurable. My friends
at night .did not expect to find me alive in the morn
ing. 1 was induced as a last resort to try Wistar’s
Balsam, and after taking the first bottle I found
great relief. 1 continued to use it, and after taking
four 'bottles I considered myself cared, and for the
last year I have had no occasion to use any medi
cine for the lungs and believe myself entirely well.
Signed, J. T. GRILLEY.

, Sand’s Sarsaparilla.
The ancients planted the asphodel around the
tombs of their friends in the belief that the seeds
of this plant afforded nourishment to the dead-, but
the more practical and sensible moderns only resort
to the vegetable kingdom for food or medicine for
the living. With as much confidence as the an
cients placed their asphodel.and with a faith founded
in experience instead of superstition, the victims
of scrofula, abcess, cancer, erysipelas, rheumatism,
liver complaint, biles,blotches, pustulous erruptions,
leprosy, mercurial diseases or general debility,
seek in Sand's Sarsaparilla relief from suffering
and disfigurement, and a permanent cure. Nor do
they seek in vain. With the blessings of Provi
dence, they uniformly derive from this restoratve
renewed health and a renovated constituation. Il
any doubt, the attested record will, we think ,compe
conviction.

of its superior value and efficacy, see pampidets

OBITUARY. , .
Died, on the 13th inst., at the residence of his
father, in Wilkes county, Ga., William S. Ham-
Kii k, in the 21st year of his age. His disease was
typhoid fever.
Although William had not united himself to any
church, yet he left a comfortable evidence that his
peace was made with his God. He was much con
cerned about his future welfare from the first ol
his affliction, making use of every opportunity to
converseSvith those who visited him, and to have
the scriptures read to him and explained. Some
two days before he died, he was enabled to rejoice
in God, from a feeling sense of his sins forgiven,
manifesting a deep concern on the part of his
brothers and some of his young associates.
To the young, we would say, be admonished by
his death to prepare to meet thy God. P.
Dikii, at her residence in Habersham county, on

children to deplore her loss They will look in vain
for one to fill her place. Her worth is recorded upon
the heart; of all who knew her, and her reward for
an upright and benevolent life, a crown of glory in.

The commercial community arc looking for fur
ther news from Europe with much interest, there
being now two steamers due from Europe. The
French Mail steamer Missouri, from France, with
dates to the 31st ult., and the British steamer Cam
bria, from Liverpool, to the 4th inst.
The Cambria being the fastest boat in the Cu
nard line, it is supposed she will arrive first—the
Missouri is a new and untried boat, and no calcula
tion can be made as to how she will sail. The
Telegraph is in fine working order through to Bos
ton, and should the Cambria get in first, her news
will be telegraphed in the quickest time possible.
NEW ORLEANS, Aug. 14.— Cotton.- Arrived
since the 6th instant 797 bales. Cleared in the
same time 29,342 bales—making a reduction in
slock of 13,515 bales, and leaving on hand, inclu
sive of all on ship board not cleared on the 13th
inst., a stock of 42,702 bales.
We left the Cotton market, in our last weekly
report, in an exceedingly dull state, there being
few or no parties disposed to purchase, and prices
evidently presented a declining tendency. On
Saturday the long looked for accounts by the steam
ship Washington were received by private ex
press, but their tenor was not made public until the
next morning, and the sales were some 2400 bales,
including a list of 1612 bales North Alabamas, at a
slight decline. On Sunday the accounts were pub
lished, and proved to be from Liverpool to the 14th
ultimo, the ship not having left Southampton until
the 15th. On Monday there was little or nothing
done, only about 250 having been sold, still later
accounts by the Hibernia being expected, and
which subsequently proved to have been received
by private-express. On this day, also, we had the
first receipt of the new crop, being two bales from the
plantation of Gen. A. G Carter, of East Feliciana,
in this State, and consigned to Messrs. Ward, Jonas
8c Co. The Cotton appeared clean, and well ma
tured, and one bale classed fully Middling Fair to
I air, and the o her fnily Fair to Good Fair. They
have been sold at a price not made public. The
first receipt last yearw.is on the 7th August, but it
was only a part of a bale, which had been forced
forward before maturity. On Tuesday the tele
graphic accounts per Hibernia, to the 20th ultimo,
wb'ch had been received by express, were made
public, but it was not until Thursday that the letters
and commercial circulars came through in full.
These accounts, though favorable in their tenor,
have had little or no effect upon this market, which
continues dull, and the total sales of the week have
only been 5500 bales, viz ; on Saturday and Mon
diy. as stated above 2650. Tuesday 450, Wednes
day 300, Thursday 1500, and yesterday 600. There
are very few buyers, and most of the business was
embraced in two or three round lots of Tennessees
and North Alabamas, taken for England, and some
limited lots of Louisianas and Mississippis for the
North. As regards prices, some few purchases of |
Tennessees and North Alabamas have been made
at rather easier rates; but the prices claimed and
paid for Louisianas and Mississippis, show no posi
tive decline from our previous figures, which are
therefore continued. Since Monday there have
been fifteen more bales of the new crop received j
from different parts of Louisiana, and consigned to ;
dilierent houses; —making a total thus far of seven
teen bales, against three bales at the same date last
year. We have heard of no further sales since the
first two bales noticed above.
The weather during the past week has been
highly favorable to the maturing of the crop, there
having been little or no rain, and we are happy to
notice that the worms spoken of as having appeared
in various parts of this and the adjoining states have
not yet proved to be the destructive caterpillar of
last season.

MOUNT EAGLE TRIPOLI. ~
A REMARKABLE mineral, pronounced by
geologists to be a great rarity in nature, and
known to them by the name of Tripoli, has lately
been discovered in this country, although but in one
bed, of very narrow limits, all owned by the “Mount
Eagle Manufacturing Company, 1 ’ incorporated for
the sole purpose of its manufacture.
The article is excellent for burnishing and clean
ing all finished metallic and glass surfaces, such as
gold, silver, brass, Britannia and steel ware, win
dow glass, Sc c. Nothing has ever yet been discov

language of the consumer is, it is the best thing I

GRISWOLD’S IMPROVED COTTON
GINS.
THE subscriber will continue the manufacture
of GINS on his usual extensive scale; and
embraces this opportunity to thank his numerous
customers for their liberal patronage heretofore.—
The estimation in which his Gins are held may be
known from the fact of his having sold more than
two thousand within the last three years; probably
ten to one over any other factory in the State.—
This evidence of the superiority of his Gins, is ac
counted for, by his being the first to introduce the
late improvements, and keeping the lead, by year
ly adding new ones. His first and second improve
ments, made the quality of cotton perfect, though
some were rather slow, his third made them suffi
ciently fast, it then only remained to make them
more durable and convenient, which has been done
effectually, by several new improvements the pre
sent year; besides, he has the exclusive right of the
State, and the privilege of other sections, to furnish
Reed’s Patent \Vater Boxes, which are believed to
be ten times more durable than any other, by those
who have made a fair trial of them, and are infalli
bly secure against fire by firiction. His fine Gins,
will gin Mastodon Cotton as well as any Saw Gin
can. His agents will visit planters generally, and
exhibit specimens of his late improvements, and
point out their advantages, in time, for all to en
gage, and be supplied before next ginning season,
or,-engagements can be made by letter, directed to
him at Clinton, Jones county, Georgia. Gins, will
be delivered at the purchaser’s residence in an*
part of the State, except the Cherokee counties
where they will be left at the Rail Road depot,
most convenient to the purchaser. All warranted
to perform well if used according to the printed
directions sent with each.
