The Telegraph. The Dallas (Ala.) Gazette of the 25th inst. says—The posts of the Magnetic Telegraph line from Mobile to Montgomery, are now all up from Mobile to this place. They reach ed this place and completed the line to the bank of the river on Saturday evening, and on Monday proceeded on the route, from the other bank of the Alabaiha, for Montgomery.' Ihe agent for the line informs us that he will complete putting up the posts to Montgomery j by the 13th or 15th September: The wires will, it is thought, be up on the whole line from Montgomery to New Orleans by the mid dle of October. The posts from Mobile to N- Orleans, the agent informs us, are all up, and that the whole work of putting up the posts from Richmond, (the present terminus of the line,) to Montgomery, is progressing and will be completed by the time he roaches Mont gomery. The line from Montgomery to Mobile passes down what is termed the river road via Benton to this place, thence to Mobile via Prairie Bluff; Lower Peach Tree, Clark court house and St. Stephens—whole distance about 215 miles. t The Wilmot Proviso—Gov. Wright. The Washington correspondent of the Mo bile Register, writing under date of 18th inst., after stating that a majority of Democrats elected to the next Congress from non-slave holding States are opposed to the Wilmot Pro viso, says —“I learned from a gentleman who should know more than any other here of the sentiments and intentions of the prominent Democrat referred to above as not yet being personally committed upon the subject, Gov. AV right, of New York, that he too will short ly take ground in favor of the compromise, in in a letter for the press.” The following is from an editorial in tli# 'Greenville Mountaineer, headed “ Governor’s Election in Georgia." The Whigs will find in it a graphic portraiture of themselves. ‘'Both parties seem confident of elect ng their candidate. We •would like to see De mocracy of the right sort triumphant once more in Georgia- Berrien, Tariff, Internal Im provement, Anti-Annexation, Anti-Southern tcrritffry-kcquisition, Anti-Southern-Equality, and subserviency to Northern Whigery, Fed eralism and mixed Abolitionism, for the sake of electing a Whig President and probably promoting trading politicians— a perfect sur render of ‘every Southern and constitutional principle? which they ever professed as States Right men and citizens of the South, and iden tification with, ahd second fiddling to/eveiy Northern principle they evci denounced, ex cept Abolitionism, and a disposition to dodge, if they dare, oh the Wihhot Provide, by the fact that they ■would not pledge themselves to oppose any and every candidate for the Presi dency who is not with the South on that ques tion, and other acts of their men in Congress. These arc some of the principles and ele- ( ments of Georgia mere partizan Whigery, j which, if not rebuked by the people of that State, will afford distressing proof of blindness and delusion on their part. We have no doubt '■ that some of the Georgia Whigs would object to this summary of the principles of many of their leaders, but if they will examine their history for the last seven years, they will find ( the picture suits too many of them to be dwelt on with pleasure. As a set off to this deline ation of many Georgia Whig politicians and papers, some of the Democrats of the same State are infected with Benton ism, which, in a word, includes a multitude of political sins, 1 and every selfish and dangerous element of treason to the South. We trust the number of Democrats thus infected are few, and they, as well as such Whigs as before described, will be rebuked by the patriotic portion of Georgia, which includes, no doubt, the masses of both parties. Notwithstanding partial ob jections to the Democracy of Georgia, that party, in their late State Convention, proclaim ed sentiments and principles which form the true basis of Southern safety; and their pledge on the Wilmot Proviso was worthy of the freemen of the South, and we therefore hope most earnestly for their success.” Hon. Robert Walker. The Secretary of the Treasury has returned to the seat of Government, with his health greatly improved. New Cotton. The New Orleans Delta, of the 24th inst., »ays —“Twenty bales new Texas cotton arriv ed here on Sunday, on the steamship Yacht, from the Brazos. It was grown on the plan tation of Dr. R. R. Peibles.” The Weather. —The rains have been sUccecd’- cd by five or six days of hot sultry weather —the thermometer ranging as high as 87 in the shade. Wc now have fine westerly breezes and occasional fcloudy skies, so that notwith standing the heat of the sun wc ate still com fortable. The health of our city is still good, as it has been for the six past summers. — Apalachicola Advertiser , 21 st inst. The steamer Telegraph left yesterday even ing for the Brazos. She took down Capt. Clinch, of the 12th Infantry, with a detach ment of recruits, and Col. Randall, of the Pay Department, with $300,000, in gold.—-Vs. O. Delta , 25th tnst. Special Notices. There has been a fair demand, and the market has refnainfed firm and steady, without any material change in prices. In the early part of the commercial week, there was a fair business]done for the season, hut for tbfe last three days the business has.been light, owing to the disinclination orholders'to sell tin til placed in possession of later foreign advices, now fully due per steamer of 4th inst. The sales Os the week sum up about 2650 bales, in daily transactions as follows: Wednesday 4CO, Thursday 1300, Friday 400. Saturday 250, Monday 100 and Tuesday 200 bales. The purchases have been about equally divided for the English. French and Northern mar kets. We make no change in our last week’s figures, except in the outside figure for which grade we put Wire., as stric ly good mid dlings command that price.
