Cancer. An interesting case cured by Jayne'* Alterative. j In the spring of 1831, a cancerous tumor appear ed in the riirkt breast of Mrs. Phoebe, wife of Peter Miretch, of Salem N. J. It was examined by many j Physicians, and was considered by all as cancerous, ■ and besides bore all the characteristic marks ol one. All probable means of removing it were used ’ without the slightest benefit. It continued to in create both in size and painfulness, until all hope of saving her life, but by a painful operation, was ■ abandoned, which, after a consultation of eminent Physicians, was performed, Jan. Ist, 1832, by Dr. John Rhea Barton, assisted by Dr. Redman, the jp oprietor, and two other medical gentlemen. The w,iole and entire right breast was removed, and al ter examination of the tumor, was pronounced by all present a cancer of the most malignant charac ter. In about three months, after enduring incredi ble sufferings, she was enabled, though broken in spirit, to get about again- She remained feeble, and her general health was exceedingly bad, as in deed it had been for several years before. In the spring of 1837, upwards of five years after her breast had been removed, a painful tumor made its ap pearance on the right side, immediately over the gart formerly occupied by the nipple ©f the right reast, previous to its removal- Tt« tnraor steadi ly increased for several months, and became so Sainful as to deprive her of rest. The glands un er the right arm were enlarged; and scirrhus, and ahard, irregular, and at times painful tumour, ap peared in the left breast. No operation could now arrest tbe disease. Indeed her whole body appear td to be a mass of disease. Her case was consid ered hopeless. She was of a very scrofulous habit, eoth her parents having died of Pulmonary con buraption. The experiment was now made with shis Alterative. It was at first given in small doses, three times a day, and the doses very gradually, but steadily increased daily', as long as she took it. which was about six mouths, and Ihe skin over and around the tumour was wet night and morning with a strong solution of lodine and Hydriodate Potash. The tumour continued increasing in size for about six weeks, and was at times very painful, when the pain suddenly ceased altogether, and the tumour swelled out at the base, and became soft, and then began to diminish, and continued gradually decreas ing until every vestige of disease was removed. — The tumour in her left breast, and those in her j exilia were also dispersed. No cancerous or scrofulous tumours ever appeared afterwards; and her general health, which had been so bad for four teen years as to make life a burthen, was effectu ally and permanency restored. The proprietor is in possession of the diseased breast, and those who choose may examine it. He would also say that he could mention oyer a dozen cases equally inter esting, wherein Ins Alterative has subdued cancer and cancerous tumours, %»ut he has not room here to record them. Mrs. Sarah Young, of Quinton’s Bridge, N. J., had a goitrous tumour on the left side of her Windpipe, »s large as the half of an orange, which was cured by using this Alterative fer about four months. j Miss R S , South Fourth-street, Phila delphia, was also cured of au enlargement of the throat, which filled the entire space between the chin and breast-bone, and extended around on each side of her neck to behind her ears, and from her ears to her shoulders, and produced awful deformi ty. It commenced growing when she was but five ye are old, and continued gradually' to increase un til she was nineteen, at which time she commenced using this Alterative, which she took for seven months, which entirely' reduced the enlargement; and she has now as smooth and pretty a neck as can be found. The proprietor is not at liberty to give her name in print, but will refer persons to her. For sale by WM. K. KITCHEN, sep 28 ly 2 Sole Agent for Georgia. BRUSHES. EVERY variety* of Hair. MUST those be who have Pulmonary Consump tion, or any affection of the Lungs, Liver or Chest, after reading the following letter, just re ceived from a most respectable inhabitant of \\ est chesler County New York. Tarhytown, Aug. 9, 1844. Dear Doctor—lt is difficult to find Avords to ex press the gratitude which 1 feel tOAvards y r ou for he interest you have taken to relieve me in my distress. In the year 1842 I contracted a heavy cold, which finally settled on ray lungs; in a few months after, 1 commenced coughing and raising offensive matter, Avhich smelt very bad. Having heard that Sherman’s Lozenges Avere good for a coughs I tried a feAA' boxes of them, but they had not the least effect on me. I then called in the best physicians in the place, who attended me a Icav months, but Avitkout success; 1 then suav an ad- A-ertisement in one of the city' papers of Wistar’s Balsam of Wild Cherry, of which I purchased three bottles, at the corner of Fallon and Nassau streets, but 1 could not perceive the least beneficial effect from it, on the contrary I think it Avas a great in jury tome. Shortly after using it, 1 commenced raising blood in large quantities; 1 Avas taken down sick and confiued to the bouse for three months, during Avhich time I lost my appetite and fell away very fast; I Avas then induced to consult Dr. Curtis of New York, (one of the best physicians in the city.) but he could do me no good. 1 again became Avorse, and Avas confined to the house all last winter and spring, and 1 gave up all hope of ever getting any better, as 1 again raised bl«od aud my' cough avus very sevex-e, together Avith a pain in my breast and under the shoulder blade. My friends noAV gave up all hope of my' recovering, and thought every day Avas the last. About this time I heard of your -BALSAM OF LIVERWORT being go od for consumption, but I Avas like many others, and was fearful tkat it might be a regular humbug; I however finally consented to try it, as I thought it could make me no vrorse. My brother then pur. chsed a bottle of it at 375 BoAverv, N. Y., and commenced taking it, and by the time I bad used one bottle full 1 could sleep ail might, «nd in the morning 1 had an appetite for my* breakfast. J still keep on taking it and find great benefit from it—the pain in my breast is entirely gone, and I raise no more blood. Within the last tAvo months I have gained in weight six pounds ami much in strength. I would therefore, advise all avlic have any affec tion of the Lungs or Liver to try tbe Genuine Dr. Taylor s Balsam of Liverwort, for I truly believe it to be the best remedy in existence for diseases of the Lungs or Liver. CHRISTIE’S GALVANIC RINGS AND Magnetic Fluid. rjAHIS remarkable invention, which has received JL the almost universal approbation of the Medi cal Profession of Great Britain, an en j tirely new application of Galvanism, as a remedial i agent, by means of which the ordinary Galvanic j Batteries, Electric and Magnetic Machines, Ac., j are entirely dispensed with, and the mysterious powers of Galvanism applied without any of the i objections which are inseparable from the general mode now in use. The strong doses, and at irfeg j ular intervals, in which Galvanism is applied by the Machines, has been pronounced after a fair and im partial trial, to be decidedly injurious, and it Was to remedy this radical defect, that this new applica tion was projected, which after unceasing toil and | perseverance has been brought t’d its present state 1 of perfection*., The Galvanic Kings answer all the purposes of the most expensive Machines, and in many other respects are more safe and certain hi accomplishing the desired effect. The Galvanic Rings, used in connection with the Magnetic Fluid, are confidently recommended in all disorders which arise from an enfeebled dr un j healthy state of the nervous or vital system, and those complaints are among the most painful and univer sal to which we are subject: They arise, without exception, to one single cause—a derangement of the Nervous system —and it was in these cases that other “ remedies ” having so often failed, a new ; agent was greatly needed, which it is confidently ! believed, has been found in the proper and judi- I cions application of Galvanism. The Galvanic Rings have been used with entire success in all cases of Rheumatism, acute or chronic, applying to the head, face or limbs : Gout, Tic- Doloreux, Toothache, Bronchitis, Vertigo, Nervous \ or Sick Headache, Indigestion, Paralyses, Palsy, Epilepsy, Fits, Cramp, Palpitation of the Heart, Ap poplexy. Stiffness of Joints. Spinal Complaints, Lum bago, Neuralgia, Nervovs Tremors, Dizziness of the Head, P>nns in the Chest and. Side, General Debil ity, Deficiency of Nervous and Physical Energy, and all Nervous Disorders. In cases of confirmed Dys pepsia, which is simply a nervous derangement of the digestive organs, they have been found equally successful. Their extraordinary effects upon the i system must be witnessed to be believed, and as a ! certain Preventive for the preceding complaints ' they are equally recommended. The Rings are of different prices, being made of all sizes, and ot va rious ornamental patterns, and can be worn by the most delicate female without the slightest incon ! venience. In fact the sensation is rather agreea j tie than otherwise. The Galvanic Belts, Bracelets, Bands, Garters, Necklaces, &c. j In some cases of a very severe character and of ! long standing the power as applied by the Galvanic Rings is not sufficient to arrest the progress of dis ease and ultimately to restore health. The improv ed modification in the Galvanic Belts, Bracelets. 4*c., entirely remedies this objection ; any degree of power that is required can readily be obtained, and no complaint which the mysterious agent of Galvanism can effect will fail to be permanently re lieved. These articles are adapted to the waist, arms, wrists, limbs, ancles, or any part of the body with perfect convenience. The Galvanic Necklaces, are used with greater benefit in cases of Bronchitis or affections of the throat generally; also in cases of Nervous Deafness; and with almost uniform success as a preventive for Apoplexy, Epileptic Fits, and similar complaints. CHRISTIE’S MAGNETIC FLUID. Is issued in connection with the Galvanic Rings, and all their modifications. This composition has been pronounced by the French Chemists to he one of the most extraordinary discoveries of mod ern science. It is believed to possess a remarkable jiower of rendering the Nerves sensitive to Galvanic action, by these means cau.ing a Circulation of the influence at the seat of disease, and thus giving ra pid and permanent relief. No other composition in chemistry is known to pioduee the same effect or to impart a similar property to the nerVods system by means of an outward loCal application. The Magnetic Fluid contains nothing capable of the slightest injury, its application is agreeable, and it is as harmless in its action as it is beneficial in its result. The combined inventions are in every way perfectly harmless ; they are at prices within reach of all, and the discoverer only requests a fair trial, as a lest of their surprising efficacy and permanent benefit. Christie’s Galvanic Strengthening Plas ters. These articles form another valuable application and the mysterious influence of Galvanism. They are too important adjuncts to the genuine Galvanic Rings and theif modifications, acting upon the ,ame principle, but having this advantage of more local application. They are confidently recom mended as a valuable addition in the speedy cure of Rheumatism, acute or chronic; in all nervous complaints, and as a positive remedy in cases ol Pain and Weakness in the Chest or llack. Pain in the Side, Asthmatic Affections, and in Weakness or Oppression of the Pulmonary Organs. In Spi nal Complaints, their effects are of the most decided character, and they have often been used with complete success. They are also ot the greatest advantage in Pains and Weakness ot the Breast, and are highly recommended for many of those complaints to which females are especially liable. As an effectual weans for Strengthening the sys tem when debilitated by disease or other causes; as a certain aid in Constitutional Weakness, as a Preventive for Colds, and in all affections of the Chest, generally, the Galvanic Strengthening Pias ter, will be found of great and permanent advantage. In a few words, it embraces all the virtues of the best tonic preparation with Fie important addition of the Galvanic influence, which is neither impair ed or exhausted, while the action continues. These articles will be found entirely free from those ob jections which are a constant source of complaint with the ordinary Plasters in common use. {JjTThe great celebrity and success of these ar ticles have caused them 10 be counterfeited by un principled persons. IN offering this valuable medicine to the people of Georgia, for the relief and cure of many dis eases incident to a Southern climate, I do not claim for it infallibility; neither do 1 say it will cure all diseases. But in Chronic Liver Affections and Dyspepsia, I can confidently advise and recom mend its use. from my persona! observation and use of the article in my own practice. 4 his article is favorably received wherever it has been used. I am allowed to refer to Mr. George Heard ol Troup. Mr. John Warren of Columbus, Mr. McKaffee of Cobb, Mr. Asbury Hull of Athens, Mr. William D. Terrell of Putnam, Rev. John E. Dawson of La grange; to which a great number of names might be added, who bear their testimony to its value.— Dr. Henry Branham has used this medicine in his own case, and has prescribed it to many others, gives it as his opinion, that it is one of the safest and most valuable medicines that can be used in imperfect digestion, liver complaints, constipation and irregular state of the bowels. It is useful in billions complaints, to persons recovering from bil lious fevers, and in sick or nervous head-ache. To pregnant women, who are subject to cosfiveness, this medicine is well suited. In regulating the state of the stomach and bowels, and promoting digestion, it is particularly useful. 1 could append a long list of certificates, but for bear, prelering to rely on the virtues of the medi cine to sustain itself. The medicine is a gentle and certain cathartic, tonic and sudorific. JOEL BRANHAM, Eaton ton, Ga. Price &1 —For sale by A. G. WILLIS. March 11 DR. T-Tl VEGETABLE UNIVERSAL PILIS. THE startling drawback on nearly all Medicinal Agents has ever been that in theif process of pur gation and purification, they have alo Debilitated the System. Hence Purgative Medicines have al ways been regarded as at best but a Necessary Evil; Patients resorting to them for the relief of one disease at the expense of another. To obviate this, Physicians have long sought for an Agent that would at the same time PURGE PURIFY AND STRENGTHEN. But their efforts were nearly fruitless, and they had almost despaired of success when the labors 6t science and research, were rewarded by a discov ery which fully realized the fondest desires of the Medical Faculty, and which is justly regarded as one of the most important Triumphs that Pharmacy has ever achieved. This important desideratum is named Dr. Le Roy’s Vegetable Universal Pills. Which Purify the Ji/ood, and remove all corrupt and vitiated humors, and unhealthy accumulations from the body in a manner never before rivalled, and which yet produce no weakness or lassitude what ever, but on the contrary, tone the Stomach, and invigorate the constitution during the progress of their operation. Dr. Le Roy’s Pills, in fact, unite those heretofore irreconcilable, but most desirable qualities, Evacuation and Invito rat ion. for they are at the same time a STRENGTHENING PURGA TIVE. AND A PURIFYING TONIC. 4 he two paincipal ingredients in Dr. Le Roy’s Pills are WILD CHERRY & SARSAPARILLA. So prepared that each promotes the beneltciai ef fect of the other, the former strengthening, while the latter, through its union with various vegetable ingredients, evacuates and purifies; thus they su perinduce no torpidity or lassitude of the the Diges tive Functions, and hence their operations are at tended by no Re-action or Subsequent Costiveness. Dr. Le Roy’s Pills are the most active and search ing Medicine in existence. They at once attack the very root of Diseases, and their action is so prompt that in an hour or two after they are taken, the patient is aware of their good effects. They not only operate on the Blood, but also on the chyle, of which the Blood is formed, and this secures good blood from the fountain head, moreover, they pro duce neither nausea, griping or debility, and as a family medicine they have no rival.
