CHARLESTON, Sept. 18.— Colton. —The pre
carious situation of the growing crop in those sec
tion* of country to which the Gulf marke's look
for thei» supplies, and the unfavorable condition of
the plant in our own State, have had a material in
fluence in strengthening prices since our former
publication. We left the Cotton market at the
close of the preceding week in a buoyant state.—
Purchasers were not only unable to operate at the
prices current at an earlier period, but the opera
tions of Friday last showed a decided upward ten- \
''fiency in prices. Business was almost totally sus
pended on Saturday, in consequence of the posi
tion which holders had assumed; on Monday and
Tuesday, however, buyers came to terms. Du
ring these ttvo days upwards of 1000 bales were
sold, and when we closed our inquiries on the af
ternoon of the latter day, preparatory to the pub
lication of our sethi-weekly report, the grades in
<most request advanced a full sc. On Wed
nesday a moderate inquiry prevailed but the high
prices required <hrh e buyers from the market, and
'the transactions Were to 83 bales. On
Thursday the offers of the previous day were re
newed, hut holders would iftrt yield in their 'de
mands, and only 20 bales kTerc wdA. Yesterday

The inquiry throughout the Week has run mostly
wn the middlmg to good middling, and fbiddling fair
classifications which have improved $ to |c. above
the quotations given in our report of the 11th inst.
The receipts of the iftw crop thus far. this season,
reach but 29 bales, against 260 bales in the coi*tes
ponding period of kst year. We reset TO ohr quo- !
lit ions for a fair criterion of the market, but would I
tremark that although we have advanced the qno- !
Nations for fair and fully fair, these rates must, for
the present, he considered nominal. The aggre
gate sales of the wetk reach 1184 bales againsTthe
receipt in the same time of 571 hales. The actual
transactions comprise 149 bales at 10$, 75 at 11

done in the classifications placed under the head
«f Bong Cotton.
Rice —There was some little inquiry for this ar
ticle in the early pkrt of the week, and at the close
*of operations on Tuesday near 300 tcs. had chano
<ed hands at prices ranging from 4£ toss|; but since
♦ hat time the transactions have been confined to 65
tierces, a good shipping parcel, at £5 5-lfitKs per
hundred. We will soon hav the new cron coming
to market, when prices must decline.

FLORIDA.
('HTIZENS of this beautiful and healthy State,
j allow me, a native Georgian, the pleasure to
call your attention to one of the greatest and most
useful Medicines ever discovered—one of a simple
and harmless nature—one which has proved itself
to be an infallible remedy for the FEVER AND
AGUE, effecting a certain and speedy cure. The
time mentioned is truly very short, and will be
doubted by many, bur I have certificates from the
first and of gentlemen of the highest re
spectability of Savannah, where I reside. It is
known by all that a poison will soon circulate
through and effect the whole human system, then
why not a simple and One that Is harmless? This
Medicine is not a Northern Humbug,- but a South
ern Remedy altogether. It is made in the city of
Savannah—ii is recommended by citizens of Sa
vannah, Georgia, South Carolina, Florida, Ac.; and
to be candid, all my Printing is Southern, executed
by Mr. E. J. Purse, of Savannah; so you will at
once see it is altogether a Southeimer, and if it was
my intention to humbug any community, I would
not choose gentlemen’s names that are welll known
and in the same place where I reside. I submit
the testimony ol residents of this City, among
whom are the first Physicians, and I presume you
are acquainted with many of them. The Medi
cine offered to the world, is a safe, certain and
speedy cure for Fever and Ague, which it will do
in the very short space of Twelve Hous. As Flori
da is a newly settled country, it is liable to a great
deal of this troublesome disease, and it will he to
the advantage of every family to keep a supply on
hand. Citizens of Florida : it is not my intention
to weary your patience with a string of nonsense
or of advertisements, for I can assure you that I am
pretty well used up in this part of the work; hut I
wish you to try this Medicine and satisfy your
selves, and you will for the first time believe that
a disease could be cured in Twelve Hours, and the
only wav to prove it is to try it.
I really do not know why a Southern Medicine
should not be as good as one that is manufactured
at the North. My Medicine has effected a perfect
cure where all others have failed. I admit there
are many other remedies, but not one that can be
come so popular, and so certain of curing this com
plaint, as Humphreys’ Remedy for Fever and Ague.
Only think for a moment. Twelve Hours to be a
healthy man! It is strange, very strange, that truth
should needso much boasting at last; but such is
this world. I will not tux you with any more of
this, but willingly 1 leave the. Medicine to recom
mend itself to Florida, And now, to close. I pledge
my honor the Medicine does not contain any Mercury
