Massachusetts* We are compelled to postpone till our next the proceedings of the Democratic State Con vention —Charles G. Greene, Esq., of Boston, President. Gen. Caleb Cushing was nomina ted as the democratic candidate for Governor. Messrs. Chester A\ . Chapin and Benjamin i. Bartlett, were appointed delegates at large to the Democratic National Convention of 1848. A series of important resolutions were adop ted. Mr. Amasa Walker, of North Bookfield, submitted the following resolution : Resolved , That the principles of a sound and consistent democracy demand of the demo cratic party a tinn and unwavering resistance to any further extension of slavery in the ter ritory hereafter acquired by the United States. After a motion had been made to lay the resolution on the table, it was voted to allow Mr. Walker to address the convention in sup port of it. It was then voted to allow Mr. Ilallett, of Boston, to speak to the resolution; and after he had made a few remarks to the effect that it will be time enough to consider the subject when additional territory shall have been ac quired, the motion to lay the resolution on the table was decided in the affirmative. — Wash ington Union, 2 5th mst. We have to report a further decline in prices this week, and the gen eral opinion seems to be that the better qualities have given way about £ cent, and the lower | a® ct Little or no difference is made between old and new Cotton so far as prices are concerned. The receipts of new Cotton are light, and about half of that received has been sold in the street from wagons at prices ranging from 10 to 11 1 cents— principally at 10g a 11—the remainder has gone into store. Os old and new Cotton the sales of the ■week s«as up only about 600 bales, within the range of quotations. For the past two weeks the weather has been favorable not only for the ma turing of the crop, but for picking it out, and plant ers taking advantage of it, will no doubt account for the light receipts of the new crop. \Ye alter quo tations to conform to present prices, and quote : inferior, none.
