riIHIS valuable preparation combines all the
medicinal virtues of those articles, which long |
experience has proved to possess "the most sate
and efficient alterative and deobstruent properties,

and Liver Complaint, Nervous Diseases, Dropsical j
Swellings, Constitutional Disorders and diseases on- i
ginatiug from a depraved or hnpute state ot the
Blood or other fluids ol the body.
The proprietor of this Alterative would most re
spectfully assure the public that he has not offered
this; preparation to their notice without due reflec
tion. and close and rigid study, nor until after
welve years’ experience had manifested its great !
uperiority over every other article of the kind. —
an I he now recommends it with confidence, fully ;
believing that the above combination of medicines
will effectually eradicate from the system a class
ol diseases some ot which have heretofore been con
sidered incurable.
He has prescribed it in almost every variety of
diseases and with unparalleled success, especially
,in cutaneous affections, cancerous, scrofulous and
scorbutic diseases, and diseases originating from
obstruction or enlargement of the glands or impuri
ty of the blood.
Cancer and Cancerous Tumors.
He has used this preparation in upwards of twen
ty well defined cases of cancer and cancerous tu
mors, and in every case but one with perfect and
*entire success.
Bronchocele or Gfoitre, (Swelled Neck.)
He has prescribed it in over a hundred cases of
goitre, and it has never failed in a single instance to
completely remove the disease. Not a solitarv
case of failure. All were cured.
The success he has met with in curing broncho
cele and cancerous affections has convinced him
that these .dangerous and horrible diseases may be
removed with as much certainty as Fever and
Ague. He does not wish to be understood as sav
ing that they can be cured as soon as Fever and
Ague, but with as niucli and further, that
J-e has good reason for believing that this prepara
tion will not only cure these diseases when formed,
but that it destroys the virus or poisonous principle
lurking in the system, from which that peculiar
class of diseases, as. well as that of scrofula,!, manate
Evil.
This preparation has been used in numerous
eases of scrofula, Ring’s 'Evil, and scrofulous swell
ings, and always with the most decided success
Skin Diseases.
*He has prescribed it in a great variety of cutane
ous affections, and found it successful in curing salt
*rheum or tetter, biles, blotches, pimples, morphew
and jaundiced skin, &c.
Dyspepsia and Liver Complaint.
It has been used in numerous cases of liver coip
ylaiut and Dyspepsia, and with the happiest effect.
Tic-Douloureux.
It has been used in several cases of Neuralgia,
and in every case it was successful.
Rheumatism.
This preparation has been prescribed in a great
many cases of chronic rheumatism, and in every
.ease in which it was used until the system became
affected by the medicine, the disease was removed.
Gout.
A number of cases of gout have been cured by
Ahis preparation. In one of these cases, the man
'had'been afflicted with it so severely for thirteen
years as to entirely disable him from business, and
for five months immediately previous to his taking
the Alterative he had been c mlined to his room;
hut before he ha 1 finished the third bottle, he was
, enabled to walk about the streets .and SO *n after re
turned to his business, from which he had so long
/.been excluded by his alfliction.
Dropsical Swellings.
This medicine increases the powers of digestion
,-excitas die absorbents into healthy ew-rcise, by
which watery or calcareous depositions, at.d ail un
natural enlargements are reduced. It imparts
tone and vitality to the whole system, removing
~>U.k or.*! uhid ''headaches, giddiness, wandering
nervous affections.
’ In fact, in every case where the medicine has
been taken for some time, no matter for what pur
pose, the general health of the patient has always
been improved by it.
In conclusion, the proprietor would say that some
of the most astonishing cases of skin diseases, can
cer. bronchocele, and scrofula, have been cured by
-this medicine, that have ever been Tecordcd; but
want of room in this sheet precludes their publica
tion at this time.
Cancer.
An interesting case cured hij Jijne’s Alterative.
In the spring of 1831, a cancerous tumor appear
ed in the right breast of Mrs. Phcebe, wife of Peter
S tretch, of Salem J. It was examined by many
Physicians, and was considered by all as cancerous,
and be sides bore all the characteristic marks of
one. All probable means of removing it were used
without the slightest benefit. It continued to in
crease both in size and painfulncs;, until all hope
of saving her life, but b 7 y a painful operation, was
abandoned, which, after a consultation of eminent
Physicians, was performed, Jan. Ist, 1832, by Dr.
John Rhea Barton, assisted by Dr, Redman, the
proprietor, and two other medical gentlemen,. The
whole and entire right breast was removed, and af
ter examination of the tumor, was pronounced by
all present a cancer of the most malignant charac
ter In about three months, after enduring incredi
ble sufferings, she was enabled, though broken in
spirit, to get about again. She remained feeble,
and her general health was exceedingly bad, as in
deed it had been for several years before. In the
spring of 1837, upwards of five years after her breast
had been removed, a painful tumor made its ap
pearance on the right side, immediately over the
part formerly occupied by tlȣ nipple of the right
breast, previous to its removal. This tumor steadi
ly increased for several months, and because so
painful as to deprive her of rest. The glands un
fie-r the right arm were enlarged; and scirrhus, and
tfhvyd, irregular, and at times painful tumour, ap
peared in the left breast. No operation could now
arrest the disease. Indeed her whole body appear
ld to be a mass of disease. Her case was consid
ered hopeless. She was of a very scrofulous habit,
e »th her parents having died of Pulmonary con
buipotion. The experiment was now made with
fchi#s Alterative. It was at first given in small doses,
tiiree times a day, and the doses very gradually,
but steadily increased daily, as lung as she took it,
which was about six months, and live skin over and
around the tumour was wet night and morning with
a strong solution of lodine and Hydriodate Potash.
The tumour continued increasing in size for about
six weeks, and was at tirpes very painful, when the
pain suddenly ceased altogether, and the tumour
swelled out at the base, and became soft, and then
began to diminish, and continued gradually decreas
ing until every vestige of disease was removed.—
The tumour in her left breast, and those in her
right exilla were also dispersed. No cancerous or
scrofulous tumours ever appeared afterwards; and
her general health, which had been so bad for four
teen years as to make life a burthen, was effectu
ally and permanently restored. The proprietor is
up possession of the diseased breast, and those who
choose may examine it. He would also say that
he could mention over a dozen cases equally inter
esting, wherein his Alterative has subdued cancer
and cancerous tumours, but'JUe has not room here
jtprecord them.
Mrs. Sarah Young, of Quinton’s Bridge, N. J., had
a goitrous tumour on the left side of her windpipe,
as large as the half of an orange, which was cured
by using this Alterative for about four months.
Miss 11 S—— s-, South Fourth-street, Phila
delphia, was also cured of an enlargement of the
throat, which filled the entire space between the
chin and breast-bone, and extended around on each
side of her neck to behind her ears, and from her
ears to her shoulders, and produced awful deformi
ty. It commenced growing when she was but five
v ears old. and continued gradually to increase un
til she was nineteen, at which time she commenced
using this Alterative, which she took for seven
months, which entirely reduced the enlargement;
and she has now as smooth and pretty a neck as can
be found. The proprietor is not at liberty to give
her name in print, but will refer persons to her.

tion, or any affectio a of the Lungs, Liver or
Chest, after reading the following letter, just re
ceived from a most respect able inhabitant of West
chester County New York,
Tari •.v.towx, Aug. 0, 1811.
Dear Doctor*—lt is difficult to find words to ex
press the gratitude which 1 feel towards you for
! the interest you have takem to relieve me in my
distress, lathe year 18 12 j contracted a heavy
cold, twhich finally settled on my lungs; in a few
months after, I commenced .Coughing and raising
j offensive matter, which siiwsit very had. Having
heard that Sherman’s Lozenges were good for a
T coughs I tried a few boxes of them, hut they had
not the least effect on me, I then called in the
best physicians in the pi :<«£, who attended me a
few months, but without success; I then saw an ad
vertisement in one of tin; e#y papers of Wistars
Balsam of NVild Cherry, of which I purchased three
bottles, at the corner of F tdton and Nassau streets,
but I could not perceive t’ne least beneficial effect
from it, on the contrary 1 think it was a great in
jury to me. Shortly after using it, I commenced
raising blood in large quantities; I was taken down
sick and confined to the house for three months,
during which time I lost mv appetite and fell away
very fast; I was then induced to consult Dr. Curtis
of New York, (one of tin; best physicians in the
city.) but he could do me no good. 1 again became
worse, and was confined to the house all last winter
and spring, and I gave up all hope of ever getting
any better, as I again raised blood and my cough
was very severe, together with a pain in my
breast and uodcr the shoulder blade. My friends
now gave up all hope of ray recovering, and thought
: every day was the last. About this time I heard
, i of your BALSAM OF LIVERWORT being good
for consumption, but I was like many others, and
was fearful that it might he a regular humbug; I
however finally consented to try it, as I thought it
could make n*c no worse, Njy brother then pur
chsed a bottle of it at 375 Bowery, N. Y., and -
commenced taking it, and by the time I had used
one bottle full I could sleep all night, and in the
morning I had an appetite for my breakfast. I still
keep on taking it and find great benefit from it—the
pain in my breast is entirely gone, and I raise no
more blood. Within the last two months I have
•rained in weight six pounds and much in strength,
I would therefore, advise all who have any affec
tion of the Lungs or Liver to try the Genuine Dr.
Taylor’s Balsam of Liverwort, for I truly believe
it to be the best remedy in existence for diseases
of the Lungs or Liver. Should any one doubt the
j above statement relative to your valuable medicine,
let him call on me, and T will convince him of its

GALVANIC RINGS AND
Magnetic Fluid.
rjAHIS remarkable invention, which has received
X the almost universal approbation of the Medi
cal Protession of Great Britain, comprises an en
tirely new application of Galvanism, as a remedial
agent, by means of which the ordinary Galvanic
Batteries, Electric and Magnetic Machines, Ac.,
are entirely dispensed with, and the mysterious
powers ot Galvanism applied without any of the
objections which are inseparable from the general
mode now in use. The strong doses, and at irreg
ular intervals,in which Galvanism is applied by the
Machines, has been pronounced after a fair and im
partial trial, to he decidedly in furious, and it was to
remedy this radical defect, that this new applica
tion was projected, which after unceasing toil and
perseverance has been brought to its present state
of perfection. The Galvanic Rings answer all the
purposes of the ntost expensive Machines, and in
many other respects are more, safe and certain in
accomplishing the desired effect.
1 The Galvanic Rings, used in connection with the
Magnetic Fluid, are, yon Intently recommended in
' all, disorders which arise from an enfeebled or un
heaUhij stale of the nervous or vital system, and those
complaints are among the most painful and univer
sal to which we are subject. They arise, without
! exception, to one single cause—a derangement of
the Nervousjsvstem—and it was in these cases that
i other •“ remedies-” having so often failed, a new
agent was greatly needed, which it is confidently
believed, has been found in the proper and judi-
I cions application of Galvanism.
The (w alcalde Rings have been used with entire
success ih casfUfof Rheumatism, acute or chronic,
applying to the head, face or limbs' Ghat, Tic-
Doloreu.r, Toothache, Bronchitis , Vertigo, Nervous
, or Sick Headache, Indigestion, Paralyses, Palsy,
Epilepsy, Fits, Cramp , Palpitation of the Heart, Ap
poplefn. Stiffness of Joints, Spinal Complaints, Lum
bago, Neuralgia, Nerrhrs Tremors, Dizziness of the
Head, Pains in the Chest and Side, General Debil
ity, Defciency of Nervous and Physical Energy, and
all Nervous Disorders. In cases of confirmed Ih/s
--pepsin, which is simply a nervous derangement of
the digestive organ a,. J hey have heem found equally
! successful. Their*extraordinary effects ujwih the
i system must he witnessed to be believed, and as a
certain PreverUive for the preceding complaints
they are equally recommended. The Rings are of
different prices, being made of all sizes, and of va
rious ornamental can he worn by the
most delicate female yvithout the slightest incon
venience. In fact the sensation is rather agreea
ble than otherwise. ,
The Galvanic Belts* Bracelets, Bands,
Garters, Necklaces, Ac.
In some cases of a very severe character and of
long standing the power as applied by the Galvanic
Rings is not sufficient to arrest the progress of dis
ease and ultimately to restore health. The improv
ed modification in the Galvanic Belts, Bracelets.
entirely remedies tips-objection ; any degree
of power that is required can readily be obtained,
and no complaint which the mysterious agent ot
Galvanism can effect will fail to he permanently re
lieved. These articles are adapted to the waist, arms,
| wrists, limbs, ancles, or any part of the body with
! perfect convenience. The Galvanic Necklaces, are
• used with greater benefit in cases of Bronchitis or
1 affections of the throat generally ; also in cases ol
i Nervous Deafness ; and with almost uniform success
as a preventive fur Apoplexy, Epileptic Fits, and
situ ilar complaints.
CHRISTIE’S MAGNETIC FLUID.
Is issued in connection with the Galvanic Rings,
and all their modifications. This composition has
been pronounced by the French Chemists to be
one of the most extraordinary discoveries of mod
ern science. It is hed ; eved to possess a remarkable
power o I rendering the Nerves sensitive to (ralvann
action, by these means earn ing a circulation of the
influence at the seat of disease*. a, id thus giving ra
pid and permanent relief. No other composition in
chemistry is known to produce the same effect or
to impart a similar property to the nervous system
by means of an outward local application. Ihe
Magnetic Fluid contains nothing capable of the
slightest injury, its application is agreeable, and it
is as harmless in its action as it is beneficial in its
result. The combined inventions are in every waj
perfectly harmless ; they are at prices within reach
of all. and the discoverer only requests a fair trial
as a test of their surprising efficacy and permanent
benefit.
Christie’s Galvanic Strengthening Plas
ters.
These articles form another valuable application
and the mysterious influence of Galvanism. The}
are too important adjuncts to the genuine Galvanh
Rings and their modifications, acting upon tlu
same principle, hut haying this advantage of more
local application. They arc confidently recom
mended as a valuable addition in the speedy curt
of Rheumatism, acute or chronic ; in all nervous
complaints, and as a positive remedy in cases o!
Pain and W eakness in the Chest or Back, Fain ir
the Asthmatic Affections, and in Weakness
or Oppression of the Pulmonary Organs. In Spi
nal Complaints, their effects are of the most decided
character, and they have often been used with
complete success. They are also of the greatest
advantage in Pains and Weakness of the Breast,
and are highly recommended for many of those
complaints to which females are especially liable.
As an effectual means for Strengthening the sys
tem tvlien debilitated by disease or othe# - .causes;
as a certain aid in Constitutional Weakness, as a
Preventive fry Colds, and in all affections of the
, Chest, generally, the Galvanic Strengthening Plas
ter, will he found of great and permanent advantage.
In a few r words, it embraces all the virtues of the
best tonic preparation with the important addition
of the Galvanic influence, which is neither impair
ed or exhausted, while the action continues. These
articles will be found entirely free from those ob
jections which are a constant source of complaint
with the ordinary Plasters in common use.
[UFTIie great celebrity and success of these ar
ticles have caused them to be counterfeited by un
principled i>ersons. To provide against impositions,
Dr. Christie has hut one authorized agent in each
city of the Union. The only Agency in Augusta,

DR. JOEL BRANHAMS LIVER AND

IN offering this valuable medicine to the people
of Georgia, for the relief and cure of many dis- |
eases incident to a Southern climate, 1 do not claim
for it infallibility; neither do 1 say it will cure all ;
diseases. But in Chronic Liver Affections and j

of the article in my own practice. This article is
favorably received where cr ft hast been, used* ,J

DR. LE ROY’S
VEGETABLE UNIVERSAL PILLS.
THE startling drawback on nearly all Medicinal
Agents has ever been that in their process ot pur
ration and purification, they have also De/rilifoied
the System. Hence Purgative Medicines have al
ways been regarded as at best hut a Neressary j
Evil; Patients resorting to them for the relief ot j
one disease at the expense of another. To obviate ■
this, Physicians have long sought for an Agent tiiat ;
would at the same time
PL RGE PITHEY AND STRENGTHEN.
But their efforts were nearly fruitless, and they
had almost despaired of success when the labors ot j
science and research, were rewarded by a discov- i
ery which fully realized the fondest desires of the !
Medical Faculty, and which is justly regarded as
one of the most important Triumphs that Pharmacy
has ever achieved. This important desideratum is !
named
Dr. Le Roy’s Vegetable XTurersal Pills.
Which Purify the Jilood, and remove all corrupt
and vitiated humors , and unhealthy accumulations from
the body in a manner never before rivalled, and
which yet produce no weakness or lassitude what
ever, but on the contrary, tone the .Stomach, and
invigorate the constitution during the progress of
their operation. Dr. Le Roy’s Pills, in fact, unite
those heretofore irreconcilable, but most desirable
qualities, Evacuation and Invivocation, for thev are
at the same time a STRENGTHEN ING PURGA
TIVE, AND A PURIFYING TONIC.
The two paincipal ingredients in Dr. Le Roy’s I
Pills are
WILD CHERRY & SARSAPARILLA.
So prepared that each promotes the beneficial es- ;
feet of the other, the former strengthening, while !
the latter, through its union with various vegetable I
ingredients, evacuates and purifies; thus they su
perinduce no torpidity «r lassitude of the the Diges
tive Functions, and hence their operations ave at- )
tended by no Re-action or Subsequent Costiveness. !
Dr. Le Roy’s Pills are the most active and search
ing Medicine in existence. They at once attack j
the very root of Diseases, and their action is so
prompt that in an hour or two after they are taken,
the patient-is aware of their good effects. They ;
not only operate on the Blood, but also on the chyle,
of which the Blood is formed, and this secures good
blood from the fountain head, moreover, they pro
duce neither nausea, griping or debility, and as a
family medicine they have no rival. Brice 23 cts.
