MOBILE, Oct. 211— Cotton —The market during
the week past has been very quiet—the total sales
not exceeding 1000 to 1200 bales. There lias been
no change in price, though the market closes with
the feeling rather in favor of purchasers. Holders
are more inclined to sell than for some weeks past,
and our quotations—which are the same as lust
week—may be considered as the extreme point of
the market. Since our last there have been two
arrivals from Europe, bringing later advices to wit;
the French steamer Union, with Liverpool dates to
the 28th ult , and the Cunard steamer Britannia, ■
with dates to the Ith inst. Their accounts, in de
tail, will be found in another column.—Under the I
influence of the Britannia’s accounts, we perceive
there has been a slight decline in New York,
through they have produced no effect on our mar
ket.

Os the new crop the receipts are yet extremely
light, and what has come to hand, is entirely neglect
ed by buyers on account of its interior quality. We
noticed in our last this peculiarity in the new cotton
of this season, and we regret to say. there is yet
no improvement. We have never witnessed cot
ton of such general bad appearance, and it should
operate as a caution to planters against premature 1
picking.
In relation to the growing crop we have had but
little infermation during the week. We are satisfi
ed from this silence on the part of those most in
terested, as well as from the favorable weather of
the last weeks, that the prospects are improving;
and although we cannot hope even for an average
crop, we are induced to believe it will exceed
that of last year, provided it lie not cut off by an
early frost A warm and dry fall will do much to- I
ward bringing out the present crop, unpromising as i
it now is.
There have been received this week 1423 hales. '
and exported, 2111 baies. The stock on hand and !

ket since our last have been light. One ship has!
been taken for Liverpool at |d. Coastwise are dull, i
The only engagements are to New York at $1 50 I
