quotations, and left it to more extensive operations
to determine their effects oa our market; it would
seem, ho wever, that the reduction noticed above
soon began to be generally entertained. During
the first throe days of the present week buyers
found little nr nodifficulty in operating, and when
we closed our inquiries on Tuesday afternoon, pre
paratory to the publication of our semi-weekly re
port. the decline was fully estaalished. The mar
ket throughout Wednesday was very languid even
at this reduction, and although there was no de
cided change in prices, buyers certainly obtained
a more strict classification of Cotton. This con
cession, tOTdher with the unfavorable position of
the New York market, paved the way to lower pri
ces, and on Thursday the sales were comparative
ly heavy, at a further decline of }c. on the better
classifications, while a greater concession was
granted on the common grades. Yesterday the
demand fell oiT materially, and the market closed
in rather a depressed state.
Prices at the close ol the week yyerc unsettled,

as possible to the present value of the article. 1 be
aggregate sales since our last may be put down as

Rice. — There has been a good demand for this
article during the week, and sellers have met buy
ers freely. The sales of new reached upwards of
900 tierces, at prices ranging from 3| to 3$ ; and
We hare been informed that the balance of the
old crop, say about 400 tierces, have also been sold
at 5 f per hundred. The receipts comprise 1531
tierces.
Corn. —The demand for this article continues
limited, from the tact that the most of the dealers
have a fair supply on hand Some trilling sales
have been made during the week, at prices within
the range of our quotations. Received this week
2300 bushels by Rail Road.
Flour. —Tiie flour market continues very quiet.
Some smaller parcels of Country and Baltimore
