Augusta Market* Nov. 3.
COTTON.—We have another dull and declinin'! mar
ket to report this week. The Cotton market appears to
t»e in such a state that both buyers and sellers are at
fault, Hie former having little or no confidence in the
article, and the latter being reluctant sellers at present
prices, disposing of only such lots as they have positive
orders to sell. The receipts this week, wc think have
fallen off, and much of that now coming to lieu I is scut
to waiehouses for storage. The quality of this year’s
crop is very good, little if aijy of it ranging under Good
Middling, white the greater portion will range as Fair.
What is termed this year good fair or choice, is difficult
to settle on, so little difference has there been in the
higher grades of Cotton received in this market solar
this season. A lot of what is termed choice, (say 5)
hales) if put on the market, would no doubt readily bring
1\ cents —but buyers being compelled to pick it up in
small parcels, refused to pay, yesterday, over7| fur the
best lots offered. The sales this week (since 27th ult.)
r.'ach only about 1003 bales, viz : On the 27th, 393, 12 at
7, 45 at 7J, 22 at 7J, 59 at 7j, 50 at 7 11-10, 66 at 7J, 58 at !
7J, 84 at 8. On the 28th, 458 hales, 88 at 7, 28 at 7}, 12
at 7j,4oat 7|, 48at7|, 182 at 7J, 27 at 7J, and 23 at 8.
On the 29th, 228 hides, 15 at 7, 31 at 7s, 14 at 7.|, 24 at 7J,
93 at 7J, 6at 7 13-10, and 43 at 8. On the 30th, there
was little or no demand and prices still further gave
way, the sales reaching only 179 bales, 7 at 7J, 141 old, !
in one lot, at 7J, 14 at TJ, and 17 at On the Ist, still
a limited business, sales reaching only 121 bales, 9 at 7,
Bat 7J, 17at 7ft, 11 at 7ft; 9at 7j|, and 67 at 7£. Yestcr- -
day there was a little more enquiry, and the sales reach
ed 208 bales, but without any change in prices, 17 at 7,
21 at 7J, 42 at 7ft, 20 at Tg, 88 at 74, and 20 at cents. By
the above sales, it will be seen that our market has fur
ther declined this week full 4 cent on all qualities, and
wc alter our quotations to conform. All parties are anxi
ously looking for the French steamer’s advices to 10th
nit. which are past due, and nntil they aie received, we
look for but a limited business to be transacted.

I of any article. The market continues well supplied
| with every article in the Grocery line, and the storks of
our merchants were never Letter at this season of the
year than at the present moment.
DRY GOODS*.—There has been less doing this week
in the Dry Goods lino. We are pleased to see, however,
that a number of bur Merchants have added considera
bly to their Stocks, and the assortment on hand is good,
and comprises every article wanted in country stores. i
BAGGING—Wc have no cliange to notice in Bagging
this week, nor large sales to report. The business
transacted lias been confined to supplying small country
orders, and Kentucky is selling by the piece at 17.\ a 18c.
For some of extra quality 19 cents is asked and paid.
BALE ROPE—Continues scarce and prices have an
upward tendency- We have no large sales to report
this week. Retailing from stores in small lots at 9\ alO
rents.
FLOUR—Market still dull for all qualities, the dc
'inand being confined to home want?. Our quotations
j exhibit the extremes of the market—it must be a choice
article to bring ss‘.
BATON—Good is still scarce. Supply, however, ful
ly equal to the demand. Sales this week of a lot of
Shoulders at Scents. A lot of good Sides would readily
i bring 9 cent ’.
CORN—The demand is still confined to city wants*
and the only sales making are hy the wagon load, on the
cobat 45 cents jier bushel. We quote 45c aSO cents, the
latter price for sack.
EXCHANGE—Cut little Exchange on the North of
fering. Our Banks continue to sell sight checks on New
York at h per cent preai. They purchase 60 day bills on
New York at I 4 per cent disc.
THE Rl\ ER —Continues navigable for steamboats
light draft. We have no change to notice in the rates of
freight—not much down freight offering.
CII A RLESTON, Nov.2.— Colton. —A decidedly
hottc r reeling pervaded the Upland market yester
day than on Saturday, and the downward tendency !
ol prices not only seemed checked, but holders i
generally realized asking prices. The sales amount
ed tr. rising; of 1500 bales, at extremes from BalkJ — j
principal!vßf a HA cents.
Coe. — Ihe Kice market yesterday was some
what dull and flagging, but we did not learn that
sales had been made at any marked decline.
MA\ \ OKK, Oct. 30.— Colton. —In our sum
mary of the Cotton market for transmission by the
French steamer, we noticed the prevalence of
much dullness, with a decline of I j cents after the
arrival of the Cambria, which, with that previously
established, made a reduction since the beginning I
ot October ol Scents per ll>.; subsequent to that (
notice, say to Tuesday 2Gth iust. a further reduc
tion of a cent was submitted to, but for the
past three days the business has been to a fair
extent, and chiefly for export, so that no further |
decline is observable, but on the contrary the mar
ket has the appearance of firmness, and on some de- !
scriptions a shade advance lias been realized—our
quotations are varied in conformity. The sales I
since our last are 4600 bales, of which 2750 bales I
were Upland and f iorida. thus : Inferior none; Ord. 1

Exchange. —The transactions in Foreign Ex
change for the next steamer have been very small,

later news from abroad. Sales of Bills on London
have been made at 8.4 a9} per e-nt prem.; and on
Paris, f. 5.2. a 15. J2 2 ; on the other places, there
