Augusta Market* Dec-15-
COTTON Our.last review left the market with a
'•.#00.1 demand, which continued up to Saturday, and the
api nations of Tuesday last were freely paid for all that
was offered. On Saturday evening we received per tel
egraph the advices from Liverpool to 19th ift’t. per Bri- 1
• Mania. The advices here were considered more favora
ble, and in consequence our market opened on Monday
vv with a good demand, and all the Cott.ni offered met with j
r ready skle at the full prices of Saturday, and in some few
! instances holders realized advanced rates. Yesterday
'- the same feefiag was manifested, and as holders met
buyers more readily, sales to a fair amount were ef
fected, and at a still further improveni ;nt in prices.
Wo consider the improvement since the receipt of the
"Britannia’s advices full | cent on all qualities. The re- ;
rceipts.at this point continue light for the season, although
iffir the past week we think there has been some improve- 1
ment in this respect. There lias also been more Cotton of
fering, but the brisk demand within the past two days
..has nearly cleared the boards of our warehousemen.
VV« would rejicat our advice to planters, to send for- j
ward their Cotton—by doing so they will have it on the I
spot, and should a rise take place, they will be in a situa
tion to take advantage of it. We alter our quotations to
.conform to the prices paid yesterday are for square

GROCERIES.—(n the Grocery line we have the same
remarks to offer a last week. But little busin ;sa has
been transacted, and we do not look for much improve- |

that the stocks of our merchants were never m: re full at
this season of the year than at the present time, and
that merchants from the interior will find it to their in

the Flour market. The receipts have been light., and
that of go< d quality is still scarce, and meets with .ready
sale at our highest figure. We continue to quote as the
extremes of the market 5 a .<J>G per bt*.
BACON.—There has not been much enquiry for Bacon

Extracts of letters received in this citj, dated
LIVERPOOL, Nov. 13.—Since the departure
of the last steamer the pressure in the money mar
ket has slightly abated, and there were symptoms
of a more decidedly favorable change, until, in the
last few days, further failures, including a very
j large brokerage house in London, have caused re
| newed depression and distrust 5 the position of the
Bank of England is somewhat improved, but they
adhere to their minimum rate of 8 pr cent, t e dis
counts, while their branches do nothing under 9
I per cent, per annum.
In the cotton m: rket we had for a week rather
j more firmness and an improvement of J to jd from
the lowest point ; hut since the arrival of the Bos
| ton steamer of 16th nit., with increased estimates
of the coming crop, the market has again become
extremely languid and heavy, and the above im
provement is quite lost. We repeat our last quo

Stale ©f Trade-
Accounts from the manufacturing districts arc
still discouraging. At Leeds, markets for woolen
goods continue exceedingly dull. At Rochdale de
mand for flannels limited. Manchester, Nov. 1G —
We are very slowly improving. Several foreign
houses are now buying rather freely, but at a low
figure, in both cloth and yarns. In the latter we
have heard of an immense lot having been sold at
only Id per lb. above the cost of the staple, of course
bought when the article was at its height, some
three or four months ago, whilst yarns generally may
be said just to pay with cotton at its present low
price. In cloth, printing qualities, a moderate busi
ness doing, and prices may be called steady; a good
article purchasable at 3s. Sales in 3G in cloth es
, fected at 2d per piece o»’er the price obtained last
J week, and several good orders have been given out
to the manufacturers by merchants.
CHARLESTON, Dec. 14.-— Cotton. —There was
d*o northern mail yester lay, and consequently no
private or more particular advices by the Britan
nia were received. The Upland market continues
• spiict as on Saturday, about 200 bales .sold at prices
ranging from to 7s, -one or two 'holders claiming
an advance of cent.
Rice. —Sales about 500 bbls. at extremes from
53 a 3£. The market said to have partaken of a
better feeling than on Saturday, without an advance
in prices.
No transactions in Corn. Os Flour, 50 Hacks
Georgia, 100 lbs each, sold at $3, cash-
MOBILE Dec. ll.— Cotton.-*-' 'The arrivals since
the 4th inst. inclusive, amount to 8932 bales imd
the exports for the same period so ; 3371 bales,
leaving a stock on hand not-cleared last evening of
32,487 balers against 34,133 same time last year.
At the close of business last week the market was
quoted firm at6|u—c per lb for middling cotton, but
holders generally were not free sellers at the es
tablished rates. For the first day of the eqi-rent
woek although trifling in ex
tent not«xceeding 600'bales, these prices were
well sustained, and in our semi-weekly report of
Tuesday evening, embracing three days, the same
quotations were given, but it was remarked that
notwithstanding a pretty good inquiry there was
manifestly a better disposition to sell, though not at
sufficienly low figures to induce large operations.
Since then the business has been somewhat larger,
but, in consequence of the inclement weather and
Hie proximity of later foreign intelligence, no dis
position has been shown by either buyers or sellers
to extend the transactions. The market closes
without animation at annexed quotations, which are
but slightly varied from those of last week- The
sales of the week foot up only -about 3000 doales, as
follows; on Saturday 300, Monday 300, Tuesday
403, Wednesday 4-00, Thursday 1000 and yester
day 600. Tne purchases of the .week have been
principally on Spanish and Freqch account, nith a

of all on ship board not cleared on the 7th instant,
a stock of 1 40,2 19 bales.
The day of making up our last report was a
holiday, and wc had occasion to remark that very
little business was transacted, and that the few
sales which occurred indicated a rather easier
market fur purchasers, though without any posi
tive decline from the day previous. On Saturday
there was a little more inquiry, and sales were
effected tethe extent of about 4000 bales, prices
ruling at about our inside figures of Friday. On
Monday the market was very heavy, and scarcely
more than 1300 bales were disposed of, at fully an £
| decline from our previous quotations. Yesterday
! there was an increased supply offering, and also
rather more disposition to purchase.but a reduction
was claimed, and holders could only effect sales by
; submitting to a further decline of fully an £ es a
cent, and seme transactions would seem to exhi
bit a still greater falling off, the market being very
i -regular. The transactions amounted to 5000 bales ;
making a total for the three days of 10,000 bales,
taken for France, Spain, Continental ports, and our
Northern m irkets, little or nothing being done for
England. We haye reduced our quotation arptarter
of a cent, to conform to the decline above noticed,
though we would remark that the market is very
irregular, and of tee sales made yesterday
are said to lyiye been at rates even lower tl)an our
inside figures. Wo notice the re.-sal£ qf a cargo of
2500 bales on shipboard for Europe.
