PATENT MEDICINES.
DR. CHRISTIE’S
GALVANIC RINGS
AND
MAGNETIC FLUID.
THIS remarkable invention, which has received the
almost universal approbation of the medical pro
fession of Great Britain, comprises an entirely new ap
plication of Galvanism, as a remedial agent, by means of
which the ordinary Galvanic Ba teries, Llectric and Mag
| netic Machines, Stc., are entirely dispensed with, and the
i mysterious powers of Galvanism applied without any
of the objections which are inseperable from the gene
ral mode now in use. The strong doses, and at irregu
lar intervals, in which Galvanism is applied by the Ma
chines, has been pronounced, as era fair and impartial
trial, tobe decidedly injurious, and it was to remedy
this radical defect, that this new application was pro
; jeeted, which after unceasing toil and perseverance, has
been brought to its present state of perlection. The
| Galvanic Rings answer all the purposes of the most
; expensive Machines, and in many other respects are
more safe and certain iu accomplishing the desired
effect.
The Galvanic Rings, used in connection with the
Magnetic Fluid, a e confidently recommended in all
D SORDERS WHICH ARISE FROM AN ENFEEBLED OR UN
HEATHY STATE OF THE NERVOUS OR VITAL SYSTEM, and
these i oinplaiiits are among the most painful and uni
i versa! to which we are subject. They arise, withoutc\-
ception, from one simple cause—a derangement of tiie
Nervous system—and it was in these cases that other
! “ remedies’’ having so often failed, a new agent was
greatly needed, which it is confidently believed, has
been found in the proper and judicious application of
| Galvanism.
The Galvanic Rings have been used with entiresuc
; cess in all cases of Rheum atism, acute or chronic, ap
: plying to the he id, face or limbs ; Gout, Tic-Doloreux,
I Toothache, Bronchitis. Vertigo, Nervous or Sick ,
j Headache, Indigestion. Paralyses. Palsy, Epilepsy, |
- Fits, Cramp, Palpitation of the Heart, Appoplexy,
| Stiffness f Joints, Spinal Complaints, Kumbago,
; Neuralgia. Nervous Tremors, Dizziness of the
I Head. Pains in the Chest and Side. General Debili
ty, Deficiency of Nfrvous and Physical Energy,
| and all Nervous Disorders. In cases of confirmed
Dyspepsia, which is simply a nervous derangement, of
1 the digestive organs, they have been found equally sue- j
cessful. Their extraordinary effects upon the system
must lie witnessed to he believed, and as a certain pre- I
ventive for the preceding complaints they are equal
ly recommended. The Rings are of different prices,
being made of all sizes.and of various ornamental pat
terns.and ran be worn by the niostdelicate female without
the slightest inconvenience. In fact the sensation is
rather agreeable than otherwise.
The Galvanic Belts, Bracelets, Bands,
barters, Necklaces, &c.
In some cases of a very severe character and of long I
standing, the power as applied by the Galvanic Rings
is not sufficient to arre.-ttlu* progress of disease and ulii- i
mately lo restore health. The unproved modification in 1
the Galvan c Belts, Bracelets, &c., entirely reme- |
dies tuis objection ; any degree of power that is required '
can readily be obtained, and no complaint which the
mysterious agent of Galvanism can elfecl will fail to be
permanently relieved. These articles are adapted lo the
waist, arms, wrists, limbs ancles or any part of ihe body
with perfect convenience. The Galvanic Necklaces
are used with greater benefit in rases of Bronchitis or
affections of the throat generally ; also in cases of Ner- |
vous Deafness; and with almost uniform success as a i
preventive for Apoplexy, Epileptic Fits, and similar
complaints.
Christie's Magnetic Fin id.
Is issued in connection with the Galvanic Rings, and
all their modifications. This composition has been pro
nounced by the French Chemists to be one of the most
extraordinary discoveries of modern science. It is be
lieved to poss- ss a remarkable power of renderimg the !
Nerves sf.hsitive to Galvaiiic actiou, by these means I
causing a circulation of tile influence at the seat of dis- j
ease, and thus giving rapid and permanent relief. No
other composition in chemistry is known to produce the
same effector to impart a similar property to the nervous
system by means of an outward local application. The
Maguetic Fluid contains nothing capable of tbesliglit
est injury, its application is agreeable, and it is harmless
in its action as it is beneficial in its resuh. Full explana
tions and directions accompany it. The combined in
ventions are in every way perfectly harmless; they arc
at prices within reach of all, and the discoverer only re
i quests a fair trial, as a lest of their surprising etficacy
and permanent benefit.
ChriNtie’s Galvanic Strengthening Plas
ters.
These articles form another valuable application of 1
1 the mvsterious influence of G dvanisin. They are an |
i important adjunct to the genuine Galvaiiic Riiigs and
i their modifications, acting upon the same principle, but i
b iviiig this advantage of more local applica ion. They
are confidently recommended as a valuable addition in I
; the speedy cure of Rheumatism, acute or chronic ; in j
j all nervous complaints, and as a positive remedy in cases '
! of Pain and Weakness i the Chest or Back. Fain iu the 1
\ Side, iu Asthin » ic Affections, ami in Weakness or Op- i
pression of the Pulmonary Organs. In Spinal Com- \
plaints; their effects are of the most decided character, ;
*ad they have often been used with complete success, i
Thev are also of the greatest advantuge in Pains and
Weakness of the Breast, and are highly recommended
for many of those complaints to which females are I
especially liable. As an effectual means for strengthen- 1
ing the system when debilitated with disease or other j
asacettain aid in Constitutional Weakness, as a !
Preventive for Colds and in all affections of the Chest
generally the Galvanic Btrengt ening Plaster will be I
found of great and permaneiiia-1 vantage. In a few words, ;
it embraces all the virtues of the best lonic preparation J
with the important addition of the Ga!vnni>- intlueiice, i
which is neither impaired or exhausted, wiiilethe action
continues. Thes articles will be found entirely free
from those objections which are a con>ta t source of com
plaint with the ordinary Plasters in common use.
JU’Tlie great celebrity and success of these articles,
j have caused them to be counterfeited by unprincipled
persons. To provide against imposition, Dr. Christie
has but one, ant mrized agent in each city of the Union.
1 The only Agency in Augusta,Geo., is at the Store of

DR. TAYLOR’S BALSAM OF LIVERWORT.
315 Bowery, N. Y’.
MUST those be who have Pulmonary Consumption,
or any affection of the Lungs. Liver or Chest,
after reading ihe following letter, just received from a
in' st respectable inhabitant of Westchester County
New Y'ork.
Tarrytow'n, Aug. 9, 1 a 44.
Dear Doctor—lt is difficult to find words to express the
gratitude which I teel towards you for the interest you
have tuk' ii to relieve me in my distress. In the year
1842 I contracted a heavy cold, which finally settled on
ray lungs; in a tew mouths after 1 commenced coughing
and laising offensive matter, which smelt very bad.
Having beard that Sherman's Lozenges were good for a
cough I tried a few boxes of them, but they had not the
least eff ct<m me. I then called in the best physician in the
plact, whoa tended me a few mouths, but without su : I
cess ; I then saw an advertisement in one of the ci;y
papers of Wistar’s Balsam of Wild Cherry, or which I
pun based three bottles, at the corner of Fulton and Nas
sau streets, but I could not perceive t e least beneficial j
effect from it, on the contrary 1 think it was a great in- '
jury to me. Shortly after using It i com nenced raising j
blood in large quantities; I was taken down sick and i
confined to the hou>e lor three months, during which
time I lost my appetiie and f II away very fast; 1 was
then induced to consult Dr. Curtis of New York, (one of
the bust physicians in the city,) but he could do me no
good. I again become worse, and was confined lo the
house all last winter and spring, and I gave up all hope of
ever getting any better, as I again raised blood and my
cough was very severe, together w ith a pain in my breast
and under the shoulder blade. M v friends now gave up
all hope of my recovering, and thought every day was
the last. About this time I heard of your BALSAM OF
LIVERWORT being good fur consumption , but I was
like many others, ami was fearful that it might be a regu
lar humbug; 1 however finally consented to try it, as I
thought it could m ike me no worse. My brother th' n
purchased a bottle of it at 375 Bowery, N. Y r . and I com- j
menced taking it. and by the time 1 had used one bottle 1
full I could sleep all night, and in the morning I had an
appetite for my breakfast. I still keep on taking il and
find great benefit from it—the pain in my breast is entire
ly gone, and I raise no more blood. VV ithin the last two
months I have gained in weight mx pounds and much in
streng h. I would therefore advise all who have any
affec ion of the Lungs or Liver to try the Genuine Dr.
Taylor’s Balsam of Liverwort, for 1 truly believe it to
betlie best remedy in existence for diseases of the Lungs
or Liver. Should any one doubt the above statement re
lative to your valuable medicine, let him call on mo, and
I will convince them of its virtue.
Yours respectfully, C. DE REVERE.

ved label(over th ■ outside wrapper of each bottle) with

BULLOCK’S
I PROGRESSIVE POWER COTTON
IK** JtWL ifc-Q jPs> flßi m
THIS Machine is now offered to the public aa
the most durable , the most convenient, the
most powerful, (and ail things considered,) th»
: cheapest and best Colton Packing Press in the
World. '
This Press has now been in use four years—sev
eral hundreds of them are in successful operation.
; In one that has been in use about two years,
, there has been packed, over Jiue thousand Bales of
f Cotton ! and it works better (if possible) now, than
5 when first put up. Not one dollar has been ex
pended on it in repairs—nor ever will be, if well
r used.
All those persons who have tried them, have de
‘ cided to keep them their life time, and then hand
litem down to their children to the third and fourth
. gemmations. Not an individual that has-een them
. in use but what pronounces them ‘‘just the thing.'*
I challenge the world to disprove these state*
5 menls. Now, can as much be said of any other
I Machine ever made? And yet Igo still further;
when required, I will put up the Press on the plan*
. 1 tation, and if it does not answer the purpose, will
t make no charge.
And again—being well aware that the planters
' have hut little confidence in new things, from the
: fact that nine out of ten are *'Yankee tricks ,” in
tended to deceive, I have been to the trouble and
expense to fit up an establishment in Macon, with
several Presses, for re-packing Round Hales into
Square, and to show to the planters that the Press is
just the thing they w’ant. These Presses are note,
and will be kept in daily use, and open to inspec
tion. Now, therefore, to induce the planter to
make an examination, I give below a certificate,
signed by a few of the many who have very kindly
offered me their names, since 1 started my Presses
in Macon.
. To prevent bad work, and all sort of meddling
or tampering with the Machines, 1 have them all
. made under my own direction, and sold at one price*
, All those wishing to give them a trial, will please
give their namt-s to my Agents who call upon them,
or send them to the Commission House, where
they wish to go for the Machine, in order that lha
Agent may be prepared for them, otherwise they
may he delayed in getting a Machine when it is
* wanted.
