By order Capt Goui n, M. A.STOVALL, Acting O. S. may IS Id ” FEN.CI X G AC ADEMY. § Mr. FRANCOIS GEO BAUGE, JtL a gentlen.nn from Paris, a graduate M of ihe Polytechnic School, and a Df teacher in I lint, institution, would most respectfully inlorin the citizens of Augusta and its vicinity, that he Inis opened a Fencing School at No. 247 Broad slreel. if any gentlemen Bigll I wish to take* lessons nl ilieiruwn U / rooms, they can he accommodated ULi Mr. P. requests that all who wish to Off take less ms, should enter tin irnames w 5 on or before iho slh of June, next, ““,.j llS s will be lorined at that lime lor ■".'lie purpose of receiving instruction simultaneously, lie being ns well prepared to leach an hundred or ’inure as one. Mr B. deems it hardly necessary to say any ihing in regard to the value of a competent knowledge ol the science of Fencing. In the col lege where he graduated it was one ot the principal sciences langhi. Deis known as a gentleman be longing to one of the most respectable families in Paris, and has brought to this country many loiters, recommending him as among the host teachers ol Fencing in that city Mr. B. has been naluralizid, and thereby became an American citizen, and as such, lie is desirous ol acquainting his fellow citizei s wilhlhose artsof self defence often of great i tamed iate.nd van tage, and at all limes manly, graceful and interesting. Toth’s end he is desirous of establishing a Gymnasium m Georgia; the advantages to he derived f rom such an institution, are so great and t;o generally known to gentlemen of science, that 't needs no -commenda tion. Tlie art of fencing alone, adds a dignity of dejiortment and polish to the manncrc ol youth, to say nothing of ils ether advantages, not to beac quired in any other school than the Fencing Aca demy. And there is no-good reason why .it should not he considered in lire United States, as ills in Europe, among the useful anti indispensable branch es of education. Fencing is not cnly a graceful hut invigorating exercise, expand ing the chest, and ‘-developing and bringing into jiowerful play all the muscles of the body, and lending a manliness of port mid gracefulness of carriage, which even the dancing master will foil to impart. Mrliis pre lossiir ol all the Military and Gymnastic exercises, nnd will teach anv one.oroll the different branches embraced under these terms, just as his pupils de sire. Mr B has been in the United States five years, and has taught in all the princijial cities in the Union, where his public exhibitions have excited the astonishment and elicited Ihe applause of the spectators, at seeing small boys of leu years and under going through the difficult and conqilicated ■parts of tho small sword, broad sword, quarter staff, and cane defence, and various other manly, •exercises, with the utmost precision and grace.— Mr IPs. shill has been often tested at his public ex liihiltons, both in America and in Europe, by the must expert and scientific fencing masters, and hs has been invariably successful. Mr B brings letters of recommendation from the places where he has taught, ns well os from many of tho most expe 'riencetl officers of the Army nnd Navy, and public institutions, (West Point and others,) and also from r (s> members of the Legislature of Georgia, rccum iniW'ling him asnneef th' ablest Fencing Masters How living„all of which will he promptly submitted to the inspection of any gentleman w ishing to see them. Air B never langhi in this jilae-e before; but has taught in all the cities of Georgia, the last [dace where he taught was in Columbus, whore he had GG schollars Mr B will open his School on Monday next. He can make any man perfect in fifty lessons. Pay ment is not required in advance. If be dues not awake you perfect, he will uni charge a cent. One lesson will he given every day. Smallsword, Sls Broad Sword, 15 Quarter Staff, 15 Cane Defence, li> Boxing and Wrestling, "20 7’hose who go lor the whole will lie langhi tfor $35.
