COMPOUND SlltH* OF FINK RG'ifl
TBS HE subscribers have succeeded lit preparing a
A compound Syrup of Pink Root, which will
admit of os deduce prescription ns the powdered
root. The dose of Pink Rout, known as one of
the best vermifuges is, 10 to 20 grains, and double
that quantity in infusion is necessary to the same
effect. But tins syrup contains a concentrated decoc
tion, much stronger than tho infusion , amounting
toalmost llie whole virtues of tho substance.
One leaspoonful of this syrup contains the con
centrated decoction of 20 grains within a small
fraction, which may ha considered at least, equal
to tho mmum dose of the substance, which is 10
gtuins—two leaspounfuis 20 grains,nnd so on. A
slight laxative power is given by combining in the
virtues of rhubarb and senna,
It is nut certain that any uniform antidote to tho
occasional nervine effects of Pink Root is know n,
but the host antidotal power hitherto ascertained,
arislolncliia, serpentaria is combined in due propor
tion.
It should be remembered I bat no vermifuge is
uniformly successlui, even when worms arc known
to bo present. The officianal infusion is 100 weak;
containing only the tea of seven and a half to lil
teen grains to tho dose, which equals, (if the selec
lion of the root be well made) only three and a
quarter to seven and a half grains of the substance.
For this syrup, tho best specimens have been
selected with great care, and the syrup on use lias
been (bund to possess, in a very convenient form
for administration to children, all the uniformity of
power as a vermifuge with the root in substance,or
the full powers of it in infusion or decoction. The
dose should he repeated three limes a day, or in ur
gent cases every two or three hours.
