But tins syrup contains! concent rated decoc tion, much stronger than the infusion, amounting to almost the whole virtues of the substance. One toaspoonful of this syrup contains the con centrated de-wolion of 30 grains within a small Iraolion, which may hu considered at least, equal to the mmum dose of the substance, which is 10 grains—two Icaspoonfuls 20 grains, and so on. A slight laxative power is given by combining in the virtues of rhubarb and senna. Ii is not certain that any uniform antidote to the occasional nervine effects of Pink Root is known, hut the best antidotal power hitherto ascertained, aristolochia, sorpentaria is combined in due propor tion. If should be remembered that no vermifuge is uniformly pucccsslul, even when worms are known to he present. The oflicianal infusion is too weak; containing only ilia tea pfseven nnd a half lo lit tecn grains to the dose, which equals, (if the selec tion of thermit lie well made) only three and a quarter to seven and a half grains of the substance. For this syrup, the best specimens have been selected with great care, and the syrup on use has been found lo possess, in a very convenient form ibr administration to children, all the uniformity ol power ns a vermifuge with the root in subs'once, or iho full powers of it in infusion or decoction.
