PLANTATION FOH SALE—The sub
• * scribcr offers for sale his splendid plantation,
in Leo county,containing one thousand six hundred
acres of land, all in a solid body. It consists of
[ lots 5(5, 67, 72, 88, 89, 103, 104, and one other,
number not now recollected, in the third District
of Lee county. About 350 acres are in cultivation,
and under excellent fencing, all fresh, none of it
; having been cleared more than five or six years,
and most of it within (he last two years.
The cleared land is allo'f lliofirslquality,oaknnd
hickory land, and is capable of producing from 12
to 1000 pounds of cotton to fbe aero. The un
cleared land is all of the same quality, except two
lots which are first rate pine land, and almost equal
1 to the oak and hickory tor the production of cotton.
On the plantation is a first rate gin house and gin,
the running gear built last year; also a comfortable
dwelling and all other necessary outbuildings for a
planter who works 25 or 30 hands. On the land
are several fine springs of excellent, pure water, and
i the well water used at the plantation is equal to al
most any in the up-country, for freshness, ami
purity. The place is also very healthy, as there
' was not a single case of sickness among my ne
groes last year, requiring the attendance ol a phy
cian.
The land lies on the eastern branch of Chicka- 1
) savvlmlcbie crock, 18 miles from Albany, in linker 1
county, the head of steamboat navigation on Flint 1
river, which will enable the purchaser lo get bis 1
j crop easily to market. The terms will be made to 1

The completion of this Rail-Road, (from Pctcrs
bttrgli to Manchester, opposite Richmond,) makes
the chain of rail-roads t hrough tho stale of Virgi
| nia continuous, with the exception of only nine
miles, and adds important advantages to the inland
route for Northern mol Southern travelling.
There are established on it two doily trains, one
of which is in connection with the North mid South
Mail Linn ; nod a in weekly train connecting with
tho “ Halifax, Wilmington, and Charleston Rail
Rond, Stage mid Steamboat Lino.”
Passengers from the South by the daily “Metro
poliian Mail Line,” will arrive in Richmond ■ n the
evening after that on which they leave Raleigh,
and having the night for rest, are yet enabled, hy
existing arrangements, to proceed to Baltimore mi
the succeeding day, and thence to Philadelphia the
same night, in time liir tho morning honls to New
York Tone, less than three days from Raleigh to
New York.
Passengers who leave Charleston f ir Wilmington
on Sunday or Tuesday evening, will, if they arrive
in Hidiliix by five o’clock on Tuesday or Thursday
evening be brought to Richmond by the tri weekly
line, in time for the Wednesday or Friday morning's
ears lor Washington, whereby they will roach Bal
timore the same evening, anil can proceed to Phila
delphia the smite night, and arrive in New York be
fiiro dinner on Thursday nr Saturday : being /ess
than Jour day sfrom Charleston to New York. The
connexion is equally good mid expeditions with llio
extra lino from Wilmington, and with all ike lines
from North to South.
The route through Petersburgh and Richmond
will bo found also to to one of tho best routes from
the South to the Virginia Springs. The passen
gers can arrive in Charlottesville, having only forly-
Ibur miles stage travelling after reaching the rail
roads in Virginia, in three days from Charleston,
and two days from Raleigh.
All possible arrangements are made on this Rnil-
Roud for the comfortable and sale transportation of

J compound Syrup of Pink Root, winch will
admit of us dcfini.e prescription as the powdered
root. The dose ul Pink Root, known ns one of
the best vermifuges is, Id lo 20 grams, and doublo
ilint quantity in infusion is necessary to the sumo
effect. But tins syrup contains a concent rated decao
hun, much stronger than the iiij'uniun , amounting
[ toaluuisl the whole virtues of the nubstanrn.
One tcnspoonful of this syrup contains the con
centrated decoction of 20 grains within a smalt
fraction, which may bu considered at least, equal
to the milium dose ol llio substance, which is 10
I ginms—two leaspoonfuls 20 grains, arid so on. A
slight laxative power is given by combining iu tho
I virtues ol rhubarb and senna.
It is not certain that any uniform antidote to tho
occasional nervine effects of Pink Root is known,
\ but the best antidotal power hitherto ascertained,
I arislolocbia, serpcnlariuis combined indue propor
tion.
It should lie remembered that no vermifuge Is
uniformly successful, oven when worms are known
to bn present. The officianal infusion is too weak;
j containing only the tea ofseven and n bull to fif
teen grains to thedosc, which equals, (if the selec
tion of the root be well made) only three and a
quarter to seven and a half grains ol the substance.
Fortins syrup, the best specimens have been
selected with great care, and the syrup on use bps
been (bund to possess, in a very convenient form
for administration to children, all the uniformity ot
power as a vermifuge with the root in sulis‘nnce«pj _ —^-■*
the full powers of it in infusion or decoction. Tho
dose should he repeated three times a day, or in ur
gent cases every two or three hours.
