Cotton. —The small slock ol Cotton on hand,
combined with the small receipts during the week,
and the dull slate ol Iho markets an the ronboard,
lias caused our market to bo very much depruccd.
For exchanges there has been some enquiry lor fine
cottons. Wo now quota 8 a 11 cents us tho ex
tremes of the market. A low bales ol Nankeen
cotton have been sold '.hiring lh ■ week at 121 ct ins.
Groceries, Br.v Goons, Hardware, &o.—A
few country merchants have boon in town during ;
tho week, and caused some activity amongst uni
wholesale dealers.
Stocks. —No transactions during the week have
come to our knowledge.
Exchanges.—Checks on Now York continue to
ho sold at 0 per cent, on Philadelphia and Baltimore
the same, ou Charleston 131 percent. The resump
tion of specie payments by the'State Bank on the i
llOth; and the intended resumption of tho other j
Banks on the Ist ol September, has caused buyers j
to hold back for a fovv days, and tho demand lor 1
exchanges has been very dull.
Freights, to Savannah, continue at one dollar
l
per halo ; to Charleston, Si 2j for for square, ami
131 SO fur rou?.d bales, is the rale at the Bail Koad. !
No boats arc up. Cur river is gelling quite lo\\>
and our boats cannot bring up more than one-third
of a load The tales of freight to Savannah have
been raised to one-fourth leas than customary.
