bit. What does this prove 1 It proves conclu
sively that die anxiety of the people for the banks
*‘to resume, did not arise from any desire to gel
specie for the purposes of trade or to hoard it, but
to teduce the high rates of exchange and to pro
duce a sound and healthy condition in the cut
rency. It proves aLo that if such a thing were
practicable, it is not desirable, to have an e*clu
give metallic currency, and that so long as bank
bills arc convertible into specie, they will always
be made use of for business purposes by cvety
description of people.

the fahks of the Slate Rights parly, which our
opponents have artfully endeavored to create on
the question of iho Treasury, is almost cn,
tirely healed, and that in every section of the
Slate, our fiends are rallying around the good

The number of deaths in New York, during
