DIED, Al !i>s residence in Umkc county, on Wed nesday ilio 20th ull., after a distressing anil protracted decline, tho line. L v w.rox U.L'li.v tus, in tlie 41-1 year of his age. Mr. C. was a native of York dis'rict, Smith Carolina, where! o apont the prineipal part of ins early mid more youthful years. He received his Collegiate education at the K.njth Carolina C. - lege, where ho held a vpry res|iectablo standing ns « scholar —van clisiitnininbed for intense and persevering application to his studies, oiul a prompt and faithful discharge of all his duties as a student. The writer knows not at what time, nor tinder what circumstances ho experienced the convert ing grace of lied: hut h iving firs’ given him self l» the Lord, and received in some mea-ure the spirit of his Divine Master, lie selected the 4 work of the Gospel Ministry as the h :-ii;e-s of his future life, and entered upon a course of pre paration for the duties of this hi iy cullin'. Pre viously, however, to entering upon the appropri ate lahora of hL chosen profession, he occupied himself for a few years to some exten', as a teacher of youth, in which ho was quf.e success ful. rihonty after coming to Georgia, lie received lifeosn to preach the everlasting Gospel, and Inhered during the lirsi years in the county of .I. fl'erson, bin upon tecc vine an invitation tram the Presbyterian church in burke county, to occupy their pulpit, he changed Ids field of lalmr ami took up Ids residence among them, lie soon very much endeared himsell to the church, aid indeed to the whole community; and con tinued wi>h them as ilieir constant mol much beloved minister, until the autumn of 183:3, with the exception of one year, I ddnk 1639 or 1830, which he spent al Milledgeville. H nvever, du ring iho Ic.-t year ad a half previous in resigning his charge, enfeebled and consult!'mindly de clining health proved a gie-it obstacle to the regular and vigorous discharge ol ids mintstc-ial cluiioa — o much so, that finding himself unable longer to p rform lh- services of his offi o, he wiihdrew entirely to the quiet and seclusion of his little family ; in the bosom of which, be lias passed gradually through license sull'-rings, down to the grave, leaving a wile and three chil dren, and oilier filends, to mourn indeed over their be cavcmonl, lull not as these who have no ■hope concerning die dead. Mr. Clinton was exemplary in all the relations of life. As a man. his intercourse wiih his lei-- law dozens was marked by amiabli-iiesa and tin alli-cled simplicity—asatriend he was sincere and f.-rvonl —a* a husband and father he was affectionate and devoted, and as a Christian be was eminent, ardent and uniform. In the wo k of the Gospel Ministry, lie was a diligent and laborious sludcnt, and an able and instructive preacher—his pulpit efforts generally, being char acterized by original and vigorous thought, to gether with lucid and liiierosiing illusnaiiun.— but his lips ate j caied and hts voice is hushed in death. Tho moial and spiritual resells of his life and ministry, remain to be fully and finally f disclosed at tile judge iicot, and in the -accumula ting developemonts of o-erniiy. His work is d me, and ho bis received Ins reward. Ho has I aught llio goad light ; he has finished Ids course; he lias kept the faith—and now, while ho lias gone before to receive his crown, he has fi-ti be ll nd him a memory which die many who loved him will long c lerish ; and an example winch, so far ns he followed Ghrist, it would ho v.-.duiri and happiness and glory to follow. “And I heard a voice from heaven saying mi le me, write blessed are the dead dial die ill the land from henceforth . Yea, suith die spirii, that they may rest from their labours and their works so follow them.” ■■— IT- u . UM3.vn —r’rr. -CSJOKT-cr->*xi* vxovrA-vre M A 5 1 1 -V E I A'T EEL Ull I X <; E.
