points. Daiy was stabbed in innumerable pluses | with bayonets ond swords, and received a deep cut over the head with a cutlass, * \ Alderman Hall, who was fortunately present, in command ot one of the Regiments, succeeded in rescuing Daly from certain death; ond officers Rose and Jones, with the aid of others, conveyed him to the Upper Police, whete lie was cum mi ted. Our informant states Iha’ more than fifty persons must have been ntore or less injured by the horse a id cart, and it is rumored that two had already died. Daly was, at the last accounts, still living, though most shockingly cut up and mangled—.V. I’. Express. From the Houston National Banner, Sr pi. 21, A highly intelligent gentleman who arrived in t town on Sunday last from the West, stales that a most decided feeling of hostility towards this Government and people, manifests itself amongst the Indian tribes on oui western and north wes. tern frontier. Capt. Love, the brother of Col. Love, who together with some sis con others, left San Antonio a few days since, for the purpose ot trading with the Cumanchcs, and fir whose safety fears were entertained, has, it seems from the jn. tclligcnce relied upon at Bexar, fell a victim to | the bad faith of those among whom he had gone with a view to traffic. I'he scalps and clothes of the party were carried into P.ceidco by certain Cumanclio Indians, as evidence of tht zeal and ' fidelity with which they wore prepare I to execute i their bond of Wood to the Mexican Government, i These are the fruits of the treaty nothing since |» entered into with this tribe of Indians at Bexar, i by Gen. Johnson, the agent of our Government at that place. A portion of the same Indians re paired to diis ciry, for a similar purpose, not more than a couple of mouths ago, and in each in stance, we believe, received presents from the gov ernment to a considerable amount. The Lipans, also, whom about the same time, we not only treated with, hut trea'ed well, are said to be now on the Rio Grande, holding direct intercourse wi h Mexico, of a nature similar to that which, it is believed her secret agents and emissaries have for some time past been keeping tip with the tribes along the whole extent of our Indian border. The chief of the Lipan tribe, when, in this city, is known to have exclaimed on concluding the trea ty with out - Government: ‘’Let us see who will be the first to break it”—and be has broken it. So much for treaties with these savages. It is pleasing to hear Irnm all quarters that the crops of cane, cotton and corn will be unusually good litis year. The laic refreshing rain will have a very good effect upon the cane crop, though it has come rather late; the cane has, however, one month more to g<ow and ripen, be fore grinding time. Cotton is very fine and [lick ing is going on rapidly. The season lias been remarkably favorable, so far, and all that our plati'crs may desite now, isgood prices, and good demand, and good money, which, we sincerely hope they will realize.— Altakapas, La Gazette, Kept. 31. Tnr. Wkst—A Sion.—The west is not all what it is cracked up to he. Several wealthy families of this place, during the summer, took a notion of ‘•bettering their condition,” and there fore started off for the western country; but find ing that it diti not answer their expectations; they are all returning, resolved upon settling down lor life in Altakapas. It appears that people are only beginning to discover the fact, that Louisiana is one of the finest countries on earth, and Allaka pas the best part of it. —Franklin ]{miner. Transactions of the week up to the evening of the 6th inst. with the exception of cotton, have been rather limited ami sales generally confined to home consumption, specula ora not being able to outer the market, owing to the small supplies and very high prices risked.
