By the Wilmington and Raleigh Rail Road Com
pany’s Line,are respectfully informed that, they will
find the route through Halifax, Garys, Petersburg,
Richmond, Washington and Baltimore, the most ex
peditious j the time from Charleston to New York
being by this line (through Petersburg, fee.) half a
day less Hum by any other interior route.
The Petersburg Rail Road Company have always
locomotives, with coaches, fee. ready at Garys, to
proceed immediate! for the North upon the arrival
of the passengers, and travellers are referred to Mr.
B, F. Halsey, their agent at Halifax, upon whose
representations they may implicitly rely.
There is no uncertainty or detention on this route ; '
all the lines north of the Roanoke run in regular con
nection, and the engineers being careful, circumspect
and sober, and every other precaution taken to rentier
this line safe and comfortable, the attention of the
public is invited to it.
An agent attends at Garys and takes charge of all
luggage, and accompanies the same, withodt troubie
to the.traveller, all the way to Washington.

DRAWING A PAINTING ACADEMY.
MR. RICH/'. RDS, from Baltimore, has the plea
sure to inform the citizens of Augusta, that ho
has opened his rooms in the Masonic Hall, for the
tuition of young Ladies in the various brandies of
limn ing and Tainting, in Oil and Water colors,
including his original style of Flower Painting and
riTicii I/rawing, India Finishing, Fruit and Marine
Painting,sketching from nature, &c.
Mr. B. has a number of specimens from his own
pencil, which he will be happy to exhibit to nil who
will favor him with a visit. He has devoted much
time to his collection of materials, studies, designs,
&c. His pupils will therefore have the advantage
of the best subjects for the pencil, the iise of
many valuable elementary works and essays upon
the art.
Ills object will he to convey a thorough and prac
tical knowledge of the study ; not a superficial ac
rpiaintanre with the theory of the subject, which
will erentuate merely in the execution of a ftw
pretty thing*. His design will be to make bis pupils
