ally taught iu academies and college,;. Instruction
will also be given by a Northern Lady in the orna
mental branches. The Academic year will com
mence on the first Monday in January. Hoard and

IT is with pleasure that we announce to the pub
lic that we have engaged the services of Mr.
Pleasant Jardan, for the ensuing year, and that
the duties of this institution will be renewed on
Tuesday, the first day of January next, under the
most favorable auspices.
In relation to the qualifications of Mr. Jardan,
and the course of studies that will be adopted, we
will only refer to a certificate form-died by Mr.
Wesley Leverolt, principal of the Anderson Aca
demy, viz: He will teach the Latin and Greek lan
guages, Mathematics to Equations of Ist degree, the
requisites for entering College, English Grammar
and Geography, Moral and Natural Philosophy,
Rhetoric, Relies Lcttres, See,, together with all the
ordinary branches usually taught in Academics.
The rate; of Tuition will be as follows : for Latin
and Greek $25 per year, or $K per quarter—for
English Grammar and Geography, Philosophy, Rhe
toric, Belles Lcttres, Ac. If 111 |icr year or $5 per
quarter—for Heading, Writing, and Arithmetic,
$lO per year or $3 per quarter. First rate boarding
and washing will not exceed $76 per year.

Ample arrangements are made for boarding, &c.

SALE—A large and valuable Plantation,
in the Gth district of Early county, on Spring
1 reek, and in the neighborhood of lands belonging
to Major Robert Taylor, of Athens, It contains
about Taro Thousand acres ; six hundred and fifty
of which are under new, high and substantial fances.
About four hundred acres have been cultivated,! and
on the remainder of that which is under fence, the
timber has been deadened and it would produce well
another year. The place has evefy necessary out
building, gin house, screw -pack, ba'rn, com houses,
stables, negro bouses, &e. Ac., all large and commo
dious. It is the wish of the subscriber to sell with
the plantation, corn fodder, stock of every descrip
tion, plantation utensils, Sic., negroes excepted.
A great bargain is offered in the above property;
it beingftuo distant from mv residence, is the reason
for desiring to dispose of it. The location of the
settlement indicates health, and up to this time, the
negroes employed upon it have enjoyed fine health.

Cfl p'/'k REWARD.—A reward of fifty dollars
Vy will be paid to any person who will ap
prehend and deliver to the Sheriff or Jailor of Pu
laski county, a man by the flame of MARION
SIMS, who has broke jail in Hartford, Pulaski coun
ty. Sims is about forty or forly-five years of age,
about six foot or more high, is a man of dark com
plection and dark hair, in stature tolerably well pro
portioned fur his age ; he has formerly been a citi
zen of North Carolina, and more recently from La
wrence county, in this stare; li i:s a family in
Pulaski county, at this time Sim- has a blemish in
one eye which deprives him of sight, has a fel lon
on it which looks white; he has on examination
large scars on his hips, occasioned by lying on
them in a lorig spell of sickness. He was confined
in jail fur stealing a negro, and for a more full de
scription of Sims’ villainy 1 refer the public to a
piece in the Recorder and Standard of Union,
which has been published for the last six months
over the signature of Hrvant Johnson.

name of BUR, and the white man that decoyed him
off; or I will give fifty dollars for either of their
apprehensions and delivery to mo. The white man
that 1 believe decoyed oil'my man lioh, is by name,
(as he called himself) Harris; he is about six feet
high, dark hair, and rather squint eyed, when talk
ing shows his upper teeth very much, his fore teeth
very broad; he stated thal he was raised at the
north, and talks very broad, and is rather stoop
shouldered and slender built, lung armed, long hands,
and quite long fingers; he has been engaged in
working on the State Rail Road when my hands
were engaged in the same business, and Harris and
my negro man Hob both left that place on Sunday
night, the 21st October. Harris tried several other
Negroes, and promised them half of what he could
make by selling them, and their freedom in the end.
He told them that he would sell them in every
town they passed, and steal them again, and then
take water and make their escape. My man Hob
that he carried off, is about 5 feet S inches high,
stout made, and slow spoken, has a fleshy,soft hand
for a negro that labors, he can read very well, and
can write ato erable smart hand, one of his eyes
appears to bes mailer than the other, he is tolerable
black, and very broad across his shoulders, and has
a down look. Any information respecting either or
both, will be thankfully received. My residence
is’in Gwinnett co. Geo. S.miles below Lawrenceville.
It is supposed they will take water, and go from one
town to another, from Augusta on to the north.
