Encouraged by a belief, that the Southern
Review, would receive a liberal patronage gcncr
»lly, and (especially in the Southern and South-
Western 1 States, the undersigned proposes to
revive it, under auspices which promise fully to
f sustain the reputation, which the late Southern
Review, during its brief existence, had earned.
It will he published in Washington, and edited
by a gentleman, whose high character and su
perior attainments, guarantee that, aided, as he
will be, by the ablest writers and statesmen of
Ath e Union, the wo k will lake rank at once among
f the ablest aiid best periodicals of the age.

I produced by the Revolution in Texas demands
I that there should bo some abler and more author
) italive opponent of public opinion than the
newspaper press—that there should be some
acknowledged organ of Southern sentiment, ele
vated above all the considerations of mere per
sonal ambition, in which patriots of every patty
may commune together, and labor for the preser
vation of the republic,

Academy. Mr. Martin, as a gentleman of lib
eral education, and having hal some expctiencs
as a teacher, is well qualified o instruct females,
in all the more substantial pirts of their educa
tion ; and his amiable charade, admirably adapts
him for the conducting of sub an institution.
1 It is expected that Mr. Martimvill have the best
assistants, in the ornamental l-anchcs of Music,
Drawing, and Painting.
The regulations in this Acad my, will be such,
in general, as are usually adopt'd, in similar in
stitutions. There will he a vacitjon of six weeks
in the months of August and ("ptemher. Good
boarding may he obtained in pri ate families, up
on reasonable terms.

From the fluttering encouragement we have re
ceived during the present year, wo have mad*
every exertion, and have succeeded in engaging
i the services of first rale teachers in the several
departments of the institution.—They bring with
them testimonials of religious character and liter
ary attainment* from many of the most indue;.-

urd’s Hall attached to the Institution, at the head
of which will be Mrs. D’ESTE, an elderly
lady, whose domestic habits and experience in
tho government of young ladies, arc very high
ly extolled. Wo have been led to tins atop,

experience in going to and coming from their
boarding houses during inclement weather; from
the lime they lose, owing to tho domestic arrange
ment! of other houses, nut corresponding will*
our own; for the sake of having all the yodng
ladies, at all times, under the supervision of tliot
teachers, os many of them arc disposed to neglect
their studies, ami become cureless of their man
ners and language when not subjected to such u.

selves as responsible for those who board else
where, as for those who board with them. Wo

patrons, but respectfully submit the above hints’
to their sober consideration.
A contract has been made for having comple

ted in France —is a lady of superior accomplish
