the Ist of February to run the eastern section line,
of the State, and make the necessary examinations
during the summer, through the counties of Cha h
am, Effingham, Scriven, Burke, Richmond, Co
lumbia, Lincoln, Elbert. Frankhn, Habersham
and Rabun; and respectfully requests of planters
■ and oters, any information of localities of Marl,
' L mestone, different kinds of Hocks, Metallic
ones, Minerals, Soils, &c. in order that specimens
may be obtained for the State Cabinet, at the Scat of
Government, and an analysis be made of the same,
to test their value. Also, mineral waters and springs.
Information is requested of the boundary lines oi
counties, for the purpose of constructing correct
maps of the same, and also of the beads and courses
of rivers, creeks, brandies, &c. and on any other
subject connected witli the mineral treasures and
agriculture of the State.

From the flattering encouragement wo have to
celved during the present year, wc have made
every exertion, and have succeeded in engaging
tile services of first rale teachers in the several
departments of the institution.—They bring with
them testimonials of religious character and liter
ary attainments from many of the most influsn
tial gentlemen to tho United States.
Wc have made arrangements to have a Stew
ard’s Hall attached to the Institution, at tho head
of which will ho Mrs. D’ESTE, an elderly
lady, whose domestic habits and experience in
the government of young ladies, are very high
ly extolled. Wo have been led to this step,
from the inconvenience which young ladies
experience in going to and coining from their
hoarding houses during inclement weather j from
the lime they lose, owing to the domestic arrange
ments of other houses, not corresponding with
our own ; for tho sake of having all the young
ladies, at all limes, under the supervision of the
teachers, as many of them arc disposed to neglect
their studies, and become cureless of iheir man
ners and language when nut subjected to such a
check; and, finally, the teachers cannot feel them
selves as responsible for those who board else
where, as for those who hoard with them. Wo
no not wish to he understood as dictating to our
patrons, hut respectfully submit the above hints
to their sober consideration.
A contract has been made for having comple
ted early in tho ensuing year, a Female Gymna
sium, for physical education.
Young ladies who may desire to speak the
French language, will have uncommon advanta
