Os all the bathing places and summer residences on our seaboard. New Brighton must soon become the most dislinguished, as it is already the most at tractive, from tho purity of the atmosphere, the beau ty of its position, the elegance of its buildings, its - convenience and accommodation for sea bathing, and the variety of its amusements: while its proximo tylo the commercial emporium affords facilities to the man of business, as well as to those who are in pursuit of health or of pleasure, which it is believed cannot be found so well united elsewhere Excel lent steamboats ply hourly between this and the - city, and perform the trip in 20 to 30 minutes. New Brighton, Staten Island, is situated on an undulating surface, rising gradually from tho water; comprehending, to the eastward, a noble view of the bay of New York, with the shipping and porls ol the cities ofNew York and Brooklyn, and Long Is land to the Narrows. On the north, a prospect of the Hudson Riverlo the Palisades, including Hobo ken, and Jersey city; while towards the west, may be seen Newark and its hay, down to Elizabethporlj with the range of Bergen woods. Staten Island is about sixteen miles long, with an average breadth of about lour miles; it is well wood ed, and its surface finely varied by lull and dale, with good'roads in all directions; from every emi nence, the mott magnificent panoramic views ofships and spires, villas and groves, sea and hay, country am | city, present themselves. This variety of seen- i ery throughout the island renders the rides and t walks particularly inviting: and interesting; while its woods and waters afford amusement to the sportsman. Tho air is remarkable for its salubrity, as numerousinstances of longevity among its inhabi tants fully attest, and indicates its importance to those wbodeaire to retain or recover the most ines- Uimable of earthly blessings, health.
