p«i« e THE CRUSADER, SAVANNAH, GEORGIA OCTOBER 17, 190ft Down With The Savannah Banner The Huvunnith Buiiner wuh no food for our community. It’* done now, "Good Riddance to Had Rubbish.” This so-called "■coop-sheet” caused the Savan nah Freedom Now Movement the integration of the white howling alleys. Integration of these es tablishments had been negotia? ed. An agreement was made during negotiations to work out thesj. problems without publicity. It is believed someone attending the negotiations was Abe’s pimp When negotiations were complet ed, Abe knew as much as the at tendance there. Hi* didn’t light en up. The Savannah Banner hit the streets with all the se crets. Then the whites charge.] the Negroes with hi caking faith, someone did. The Segregationists got the Sa vannah Banner. They pressur ed the howling industry. Leagues began to withdraw. Then it be came a matter of dollars and cents with the lane owners. They froze up and went hack on the agreement. Thanks to Abe's pimp and the Savanrah Banner. The Savannah Banner stated in an editorial on July 20 that the NAACr had not condoned or tak en pari in th e night demonstra tions. This was false. The NAAOP not only condoned it but sponsored night demonstrations. The only reason they stopped, the size of the crowd was dis couraging. Many untruths accompanied the August 4th issue. The pub lisher allowed an article entitled: "City’s Negro Leadership Veto Dr. King’s Coming,” to give the NAACP credit for additional Ne gro Police, Negro Firemen, the hiring of Negroes by the city to do jobs previously held by whites only, desegregation of the Golf Course and the Public Library; solidifying of the Negro vote and developing favorably communica tion between the City Fathers and true Negro leadership, these are gains made by a united Ne gro vote, guided and negotiated by the Chatham County Crusade For Voters. The Savannah Banner caused many supporters of the Savannah Freedom Now Movement to go, astray by claiming "Hosea’s j Movement is virtually crushed unless outsiders come in and un less the Negro ministers and the NAACP bail him out.” What the Savannah Banner did not know, EVEN IN JAIL HOSEA L.
