With this issue we carry the appli
cation for charter for the Wheeler
—County Bank. It was decided to cap
tilize the bank at $25,000, as was
first announced, while a sufficiency of
stock had been taken to have made up
the $30,000.00 Those who had taken
stock to the limit in the beginning
agreed to share their stock with those
who were not so fortunate as to get
in on the first go-round. The stock
has all been divided up and an army
of stockholders have an interest in the
new bank.

almost ready for business in a very

the move have lost no time—they
went at it in earnest. The bank will
open temporarily in the Jackson-Moye

can be built. A meeting of the stock

ROGERS-HARTLEY
A pleasant surprise to the many
friends of Mr. Cleveland C. Hartley of
this place and Miss Lena Rogers of Mc-
Rae, was their marriage last Sunday
afternoon at three o’clock, at the
home of the bride’s mother, Mrs. W.
N. Rogers, Rev. J. D. Larkin, pastor
of the First Baptist church of that city,
performed the ceremony in the presence
of the family and a few intimate friends
of the contracting parties. Mrs. Hartley
is an attractive young lady, admired
by all who know her. She is no stran
ger to the people of Alamo, having re
cently lived here, and will receive a
hearty welcome by her many friends.
Mr. Hartley is one of Alamo’s rising
young business men, being the junior
partner of the firm of W. G. Hartley
& Brother. He is one of the most pop
ular young men of this community,
both in social and business circles.
They returned to Alamo Sunday after
noon and are boarding with Mr. and
Mrs. Richmond McDaniel where they
are at home to their friends.
McRAE-COX
The surprise of the many June mar
riages was that of Miss Lula Mcßae
of Mcßae, and Mr. Alex Cox of thia
place, on last Tuesday night, seated
in an automobile about half way be
tween here and Mcßae. The mar
riage had been planned for sometime,
but owing to the objections of the
bride’s parents, it had been postponed
from time to time until last Tuesday
night when Mr. Cox went over on the
night train and carried Judge Neal
T. Clark with him to Mcßae. They
then proceeded to the home of the
bride, where arrangements were made
for their elopement. After they had
gotten a safe distance rrom the home
of the bride’s parents. Judge Clark tied
the knot that made them man and wife.
They proceeded on to Alamo, arriving
I here about twelve o’clock. Mr. Cox
is manager of the Alamo Telephone Co.,
at this place and is a young man of fine
business qualities, and Mrs Cox is a
young lady of many charming attain
ments and will make a model compan
ion. The Eagle wafts congratulations.

any more. See me before interfer

Georgia. They will put before

School Rally at Hall
Wednesday Evening
At a called meeting of the citizens
of Alamo Wednesday night, plans were
discussed relative to the school improve
ments for the town. Mayor H. L.
Sears presided over the meeting.
There were several in attendance and
took hold of the spirit of the meeting
with determination. It was agreed to
have a bill drawn up and place before
the legislature at its next session to
incorporate the town of Alamo three
fourths of a mile each way into a
school district, and bond the town not
to exceed ten thousand dollars, to build
and equ'p a suitable school building for
said district. It was also agreed to
have a board of education, elected by
the people, and they to be selected
from the board of councilmen and the
Mayor to act as chairman of said board
A building fitted up with four class
rooms was thought ample for the pres
ent. For the maintenance of the
school it was thought advisable to levy
an ad valorem tax, and together with
the customary fee charged the pupils
on entrance would sustain the school.
The fees for ron resident pupils will
be determined by the board. This
school would receive i s prorata of the
state school fund.
