The following is the Sentence of the Court in the case of Cobh, who was convicted of murder at the present session of Fulton Su perior Court: PiiisoNF.it at the P.AE :—You have been brought to the Bar of this Court, charged by the grand inquest of the county with the crime of willful and deliberate murder. To this you pleaded “not Guilty,” and upon the issue thus formed, a Jury of your country, selected by yourself, after a patient, faithful and impartial trial, have by tlieirsolvmu verdict pronounced you Guilty. ) mi have had a fair trial, with all the advantages winch the humanity of the law accords to the accused. The Court has given you every indulgence asked, and ruled every doubtful point in your favor. You have been defended by able and zealous coun sel, Avho pleaded your cause with all the ear nest eloquence of men pleading for life. The Jurors selected to pass between you and the State came to the i nvestigation with minds unbiassed, and dofibtless disposed to mercy. They would have acquitted you had not the evideiKc constrained them to find you guilty ; and that they rendered a true verdict accord ing to the evidence, I entertain not the slight est doubt. And now on me is imposed the sad duty of pronouncing upon you that doom which the violated law demands as the penalty of your crime ; and (lie sentence which I must pro nounce will, when uttered, announce to you the untimely close of your mortal career— the cutting off of every earthly' tie. To me, this is a most revolting task. To see tlm old die, seems hut the natural sinking to repose after a long day of wearisome toil and eare. But to behold one in tk : blooming spring of life, when hope should be bouyant and evc.iy prospect bright, while yet the warm blood courses freely through every vein, sud denly and ignominiously cut off from life and hope, affords a most painful and melancholy subject of contemplation. But stern justice demands the immolation of the victim on her altars, and her claims may not be denied; for it sucli crimes as that of which you are now convicted, were suffered to go unwliipped of justice, the very elements of society would be lissolvcd, and instead ol peace, security and order, one wild scene of lawlessness, bloodshed and ruin would pervade the land. An aged and unoffending traveller- a stran ger peacefully pursuing bis journey oil the publii highway, is suddenly assailed and bru tally and barbarously murdered: and, with no conceivable motive, but a vampire thirst for blood, or Hie xuriliii lust of plunder. For such a deed as this, human justine eau demand nothing less than the life of the assassin. But 1 have no motive now to wound vour toolings. I only desire to impress you with the urgent necessity of repenting for your .•rimes, belt .re repeetailce will he forever una vailing. If death were nothing more than a mere lissnlutiou of the material elements of the indy the return of dust to its kindred dust -there would be eomjwirati vely little to dread. 15ut there is within you an immortal spirit that uiiisl survive, anil long after your name and ymir cl ime shall have passed from the memory of man, that deathless soul shall still live? Where shall it lire ? To you this is a great question fraught with eternal intesest, and the solution of it depends on your em ployment of (lie few fieet/ng days of life yet remaining to you. Let me earnestly and kind ly entreat you to devote them to your immor tal welfare : to making your peace with that eternal Judge before whom you must soon ap peal'. This is the best advice that I can give yon; perhaps it is the last. Let no delusive hope of escaping the just sentence of the law prevent you from immediately setting about the great work of ymir soul’s salvation. In all candor and sincerity, I tell you thatldo nut believe you will escape this doom. You may. liy availing yourself of the forms of law for a short time postpone it, lint I see nn rea sonable hope finally to avert it. The mercy of that Great Being whom you have so long ofiended is yet freely offered to you. Hitherto you have madly refused it : it would be worse than madness longer to reject it, and seal your own destruction.— God in mere) grant that you may seek and obtain a fill I and free pardon for all your sins: and that, when you go hence you may find your abode in the mansions of the blessed.— And may your unhappy fate prove an effectu al warning to deter the youth of this country from pursuing that path of Vice and Sin which has led you to ruin. The sentence of the Law is : That you be ta ken from tlic Bar of this Court to the common Jail of this County, or some other safe place of confinement, there to be kept in safe and close custody, until Friday, the 10th day of December next, ensuing: that on the day and year aforesaid, between the hours of 10 o’clock in the forenoon, and of 2 o’clock in the after noon, you be taken thence by the Sheriff of Fulton county, or bis lawful Deputy, to (be place of execution, and that you lie there hanged by the neck until you arc dead !— Andmav God have merev on vour soul! ———‘— ADMINISTRATOR’** SALE.
