Avondale Estates Antique car parade details announced Avondale Estates will hold its annual Antique Car Parade April 5. The parade will include more than 40 cars from the Antique Automobile Club of America, Model A Restorers Club, Early Ford V-8 Club, Cadillac Club and more. Lineup begins 1:30 p.m. at the Twin Oaks Shopping Plaza, 2853 East College Ave. The parade begins at 2:30 p.m. on South Avondale Road and ends at Willis Park, where the cars stop for a temporary display, and refreshments will be provided by the Southeastern Antique Automobile Club of America. Easter egg hunt and dog parade set Avondale Estates will host its annual Easter Egg Hunt and Dog Parade April 4 at Lake Avondale, from 10 a.m. to noon. Children up to 10 years old can participate in the Easter egg hunt. Dogs can participate in the dog parade for free, and costumes are not required. Award categories include Best Costume, Best Owner/Dog Duo, Most Spirited/Enthusiastic, and Best Behaved. For more information, visit www.avondaleestates.org. Brookhaven Easter egg hunt first for city Brookhaven will hold its first Easter egg hunt April 4 at Blackburn Park. The event will include candy and prizes. Max Davis will update the Brookhaven community on the city’s accomplishments in 2014 and discuss plans for 2015 at the second annual State of the City April 16 at the Hyatt Atlanta Perimeter Hotel at Villa Cristina, 4003 Summit Boulevard in Brookhaven. The event starts at 6:30 p.m. and will include hors d’oeuvres. The address starts at 7 p.m. A question/answer period will follow the presentation. Clarkston Walk to benefit refugee girls' education The third annual Connecting Communities Walk, benefitting The Global Village Project, a school for refugee girls, will be held Saturday, April 18, at 10 a.m. Global Village Project is an accredited, tuition- free, nonprofit private middle school for refugee teenage girls. Many Global Village Project students have had limited formal education before they arrive in the United States. Participants will walk the 4.5 miles from Clarkston, where most Global Village Project students live and where many refugees are resettled when they first arrive in the United States, to the school in the city of Decatur, on the PATH Trail. The public is invited to participate. The walk will begin at the Clarkston Community Center, 3701 College Avenue Clarkston. Community festival scheduled The Clarkston Festival Committee will hold its April 25 community festival from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. to educate, appreciate and celebrate Clarkston being one of Georgias most diverse communities. Festival activities will include pre-race activities and mini health fair at Milam Park prior to the race start at 9 a.m. The 5k road race from Milam Park to the Atlanta Area School for the Deaf begins at 10 a.m. The event will conclude with activities for the entire family that will include Zumba, performances, a childrens zone, food trucks, sports activities, art vendors and much more. Dunwoody Community bike event details released There will be a community bike ride April 5, 2:45 p.m. starting at Village Burger on Dun woody Village Parkway. There will be a short pre-ride safety speech and leave by 3. Helmets are required and it is recommend a bicycle with gears to handle the hills. The route is a 4.5 mile loop around Dunwoody - mostly right turns. The event will not take place in inclement weather or hazardous road conditions exisit. Ev eryone is welcome. Lithonia Health board to sponsor wellness expo The DeKalb County Board of Health STD/HIV Prevention Program will present the Real Talk about Fibroid and AIDS Wellness Expo on April 11, from noon to 4 p.m. The event will include a free seminar titled “Freedom From Fibroids” by John C. Lipman, MD, FSIR. Free confidential STD/HIV testing and education will be available, with test results in 15 minutes. Additionally, there will be fitness, massage and nutrition vendors. The meeting will educate attendees on the importance of community parks and how to partner with the county to keep them clean, safe and well used.
