Gomez named Clarkston city manager

Robin Gomez from
Fairmont, W.V., has been
officially named as the new
city manager for Clarkston.
Clarkston City Council
unanimously voted Dec. 4 to
hire Gomez to be the next city
manager, replacing former city
manager Keith Barker, who
retired. Gomez took over the
position Jan. 7.
“I am excited about
working with the Clarkston
staff, meeting and interacting
with residents, business
owners and operators to
quickly learn how I can
contribute to Clarkston’s
wonderful future,” Gomez
said in a released statement.
“My family and I have already
begun to experience the
fabulous charm and diversity
that makes Clarkston a
dynamic city to live, learn,
work and play.”

for the position in November

after a nationwide search.
During the city council’s Nov.
8 regular meeting, Mayor
Ted Terry said The Mercer
Group consulting firm was
conducting the search.
“After gathering
information about the
community, including a
public input session, The
Mercer Group began a
targeted recruitment effort to
identify candidates that met
the Clarkston position profile
criteria that were set forth,”
Terry said.
Gomez was one of five
semifinalists selected from a
list of 48 applicants.
“On Nov. 3, the council
and mayor met with each of
the finalists and came to a
conscious decision and we’re
happy to announce that we
have selected Mr. Robin
Gomez from Fairmount,
W.V.,” Terry said.
Gomez served as
Fairmont’s city manager for
three years. Prior to becoming
city manager, Gomez served
as city auditor and Hispanic-
Latino liaison of the city of
Clearwater, Fla., according to
his Linkedln page.
Gomez has a bachelor
of arts degree in political
science and economics from
the University of Miami and a
master of public administration
degree from the University of
South Florida.
Gomez, a native of Mexico,
migrated with his family to
the United States at the age of
5 when his physician father
joined the U.S. Air Force,
according to city officials.
