LEGACY CONTINUES FOR NAACP PARADE

The DeKalb County branch of
the NAACP hosted its 17th annual
Martin Luther King Jr. Day parade
Jan. 21.
The parade route began at
Green Pastures Christian Church
in Decatur and ended at Martin
Luther King High School in
Lithonia. Performances from bands
representing Martin Luther King
Jr. High School, Arabia Mountain
High School, Columbia High
School and five other schools were
part of the parade.
DeKalb County School District
Superintendent Dr. Stephen Green
spoke before the start of the parade.
He encouraged participants and
attendees to remember the legacy
of Martin Luther King Jr.
“Today we recognize and
celebrate what he stood for. He
was a dreamer, but he didn’t just
dream,” Green said. “He marched,
but he didn’t just march, he fought.
He fought for every one of us. He
fought for equal rights and equal
justice.”
More than 200 people were in
attendance for the parade lineup
and opening ceremony. During the
opening ceremony, event organizers
recognized county sanitation
workers and Vietnam veterans for
their service to the community.
The late Sarah Copelin-Wood
was also honored during the

Pizzeria to donate food
to the hungry

Your Pie Perimeter in Dunwoody’s
Perimeter Place pledged a meal
to people in need for every pizza
purchased during its four-year
anniversary celebration Jan. 17.
During the restaurant’s
anniversary event 576 pizzas were
purchased by customers, based on
the pledge, the restaurant will donate
576 entrees—pizza, paninis and
sandwiches—to aid hungry people in
the area.
“[The 576 pizza tally was] definitely
more than we hoped for,” said Lisa
Maclellan, co-owner of Your Pie
Perimeter.
Maclellan, who owns the restaurant
with husband Morgan Maclellan, said
they didn’t have a numeric goal for the
all-day event. Instead, Lisa Maclellan
said that the goal of the event was to
thank their guests and community for
four years of business, have a fun pizza
