October is filled
with scares and
delights
BY GALE HORTON GAY
October is not a month for the faint of heart. Practically
everywhere one turns there are sights and sounds designed
to frighten or make one at least laugh.
Here’s a list of some events and activities with a
Halloween theme that promise to raise hairs on the back of
necks:
Calloween
Callanwolde Fine Arts Center is being transformed
into a house of frights and delights. The Tudor-Revival
mansion, once home to Candler family of Coca-Cola fame,
is open Oct. 25 from 6:30 - 9 p.m. for the fifth annual
Calloween, an evening of trick or treating, games with
candy prizes, movie screenings and more. Organist Randy
Elkins is scheduled to perform as are Callanwolde’s dance
company Prime Movers. A DJ-led dance part and costume
contest round out the night. Tickets $10 online, $12 at the
door. Parking at Emory Briarcliff, 1256 Briarcliff Road,
Atlanta with free trolley service.
A Tour of Southern Ghosts
ART Station presents its annual storytelling festival A
Tour of Southern Ghosts. But the nightly tales take place
at Stone Mountain Park where six professional storytellers
take guests on a lantern-led tour of yesteryear “brought to
life through the grand tradition of Southern storytelling.”
Runs Oct. 17-27 from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday through
Sunday, 7 to 9:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Tickets $8-
$17 and requires entry into Stone Mountain Park and $20
