Thoughtful giving is well received
Many feel the need to spend large amounts
of time and money shopping for and buying just
the right holiday gift for someone they care for
and want to make happy.
However, there are many gifts that cost
little or nothing that can be more meaningful
and appreciated than those that cost hundreds of
dollars.
Simple gestures such as offering to clean
another’s home or vehicle can bring a great deal
of happiness. Other gestures such as original
works of art or original writings, performing
maintenance or home repairs, cooking, reading
or simply spending quality time with another
often bring joy to the recipient.
Other suggestions of no-cost gifts include
offering to care for pets or children, cooking
or decorating ones’ home for the holidays, or
offering to do yardwork. For many older people,
the simple gift of another's time and affection
can be one of the most appreciated gifts they
may receive and will long be remembered.
Our winter holidays have become so
commercialized that many make themselves
miserable attempting to find just the right gift
for each person on their gift list, but it doesn’t
have to be that way. If we take the time and
energy used in shopping and reinvest that time
and energy into thinking of creative ways we
can show our affection for others, it makes for
less stressful holidays for all.
