FEBRUARY 8 - 14, 2024 • PAGE 2 Festival celebrating romantic literature coming to Decatur BY CHRISTINE FONVILLE CHRISTINE@DEKALBCHAMP.COM A new festival, jointly organized by three local booksellers and celebrating all things romance, is coming to Decatur. The inaugural LOVE Y'ALL book festival is set to take place Feb. 16 through Feb. 18 at the Courtyard by Marriott in downtown Decatur. Organizers described the event as "Georgia's first book festival celebrating love, diversity, and literature." "The festival will create an inclusive space for readers and authors to connect, engage in meaningful conversations, and celebrate the enchanting world of romance fiction," stated officials. "With a diverse lineup of authors, books, discussions and panels, the festival promises an unforgettable experience for attendees who believe in the power of love stories." According to the festival's website, the event will feature a lineup of more than 60 authors, panel discussions, book signings, author meet-and-greets and giveaways. Friday will be the kickoff of the festivities with one-of-a- kind experiences with authors that readers can sign up to attend, plus a scavenger hunt at Oakland Cemetery, high tea, karaoke, and a dinner with multiple New York Times bestselling authors, according to officials. The DeKalb County Community Development Department is in the process of completing the 2024-2029 Consolidated Plan for HUD Programs and the Analysis of Impediments to Fair Housing for DeKalb County. The Consolidated Plan is a planning document that consolidates three different United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) grant programs into one planning document. In DeKalb County, these programs are the Community Development Block Grant Program (CDBG), Emergency Solutions Grants Program (ESG), and the HOME Investment Partnership Program. The plan will primarily identify the needs of low-to-moder- ate income neighborhoods and persons and demonstrate how the County will meet those needs. The document will provide guidance and identify priori ties for the next five years. Ultimately, the purpose of the Consolidated Plan is to develop viable urban communities by providing resources that will: • Provide decent and affordable housing, • improve suitable living environments and, • expand economic opportunities; principally benefit ing low to moderate income persons During this process we will hold a Community Meeting to engage community stake holders in the process of identi fying critical needs to assist the County in developing Long Term Objectives as related to low-moderate income per sons and communities.
