LifeLine Animal Services, the nonprofit that
oversees DeKalb and Fulton Animal Services, is
in need of adopters, fosters, volunteers and do
nations for hundreds of loveable dogs and cats in
need.

Dive into Easter
Registration is now open for DeKalb County's
Easter egg dive, scheduled for March 9 from noon
until 2 p.m. at East DeKalb Senior Center (4885
Elam Road, Stone Mountain).
Participants must be ages 5-15 and will have
a chance to dive into a pool filled with Easter
eggs. To access online registration, visit www.
dekalbcountyga.gov/parks and click "Register
Online" button on the department's homepage or
register in person at the center.
Attend a high school basketball game
DeKalb County is home to several of the
state's top basketball teams, with several local
teams regularly competing for region and state
titles.

AVONDALE ESTATES
Plant a tree for Arbor Day
The city of Avondale Estates is celebrating its
40th year as a Tree City USA on Georgia's Arbor
Day on Feb. 16. In collaboration with the Avon
dale Estates Garden Club, a native water hickory
(Carya aquatica) will be planted at 2 p.m. at Willis
Park, located at 51 Dartmouth Avenue. The event
is open to all who'd like to attend.
According to members of the Avondale Es
tates Garden Club, winter is the perfect time
to plant a tree in the yard. Consider adding to
DeKalb County's tree canopy by planting a native

BROOKHAVEN
Enjoy a family outing at the Sweetheart Dance
Brookhaven Park and Recreation's annual
Sweetheart Valentine's Dance (formerly known as
the Daddy-Daughter Dance) returns to Lynwood
Park this year.
The dance takes place Feb. 18 from 3 to 5
p.m. at the Lynwood Park Community Center,
located at 3360 Osborne Road. The price is $30
for the first parent/child, then $10 for each addi
tional child.
The event will include music, dancing, pictures
to take home, and dinner. Registration is open
until Feb. 16 or until event is at capacity. For more

Take a free self-defense course
Registration is underway for free self-defense
classes hosted by the Chamblee Police Depart
ment. These classes are open year-round for pri
vate groups ages 18 and older. Groups must have
a minimum of six people.

Coffee Cart volunteers needed
Soldiers' Angels in concert with the Atlanta VA
Healthcare System announces the return of the
Coffee Cart at Joseph Maxwell Cleland Atlanta VA
Medical Center located at 1670 Clairmont Road in
Decatur.
Volunteers will brew coffee and provide cups,
stirrers, lids, sweeteners, creamers, napkins, and
a healthy snack when available. They will also be
responsible for setting up and cleaning the area
at completion. Volunteers can sign up for one or
more days to serve. The next opportunity to vol
unteer will be Feb. 26 from 8 to 11 a.m. For more

Swap seeds during the Seed and Scion Exchange
Wylde Center's 2024 Seed and Scion Exchange
will take place on Feb. 25 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the
old dairy barn at Legacy Park located at 500 S Co
lumbia Drive in Decatur.
Guests will have the opportunity to exchange
seeds, chat with other seed savers, and learn
unique propagation and sowing methods. The
Seed and Scion Exchange will feature education
sessions in grafting, division, water propagation,

ESL discussion classes
All skill levels are welcome to join the weekly
class discussion at the Doraville Library, located at
3748 Central Avenue in Doraville to practice the
English language. Joining the class grants partici
pants access to the online discussion board to get
support throughout the week from peers. Classes
sometimes take field trips.

Caffeine and Octane car show
Caffeine and Octane is an all makes and all
models car show that regularly attracts more than
650 muscle, classic, high performance and exotic
cars. Attendees will see a new mix of cars every
single month. The show is centrally located at Pe
rimeter Mall just off 1-285.
Caffeine and Octane is a family friendly event
and free to attend for all. It is held from 8 a.m.
to 11 a.m. on the first Sunday of every month at
