Here's to daffodils
and their beauty
One of the very first indications that spring soon will be upon us is the emergence of
the hundreds of varieties of the beautiful narcissus, also commonly known as the daffodil.
According to gardeningknowhow.com, there are more than 13,000 varieties of
daffodils that fall into approximately one dozen subvarieties that are known for their
specific appearance and color.
The most popular variety of daffodil, according to hortzone.com, are large cupped
single flowers on a single stem and one of the best double daffodils for show and fragrance
is Pencrebar with its sweet-smelling yellow flowers on short stems.
There are three distinct growing seasons for the different varieties of daffodils,
including early daffodils that often appear and bloom in February in our growing zone,
mid-season daffodils that typically bloom in March and April and late daffodils which
bloom during April and May.
No matter what variety is your favorite, we should all agree that one of the most
welcomed indicators of better weather to come is the daffodil.
The next dynasty?
