Three people, including
twin brothers from Stone
Mountain, have been found
guilty of armed robbery after
an incident that occurred in
2021.
According to officials
with DeKalb County District
Attorney's office, jurors re
turned guilty verdicts against
three defendants on Jan.
29. Donnell Reed, 30, of
Stone Mountain, was found
guilty on charges of armed
robbery, aggravated assault,
false imprisonment, and pos
session of a firearm by a first
offender probationer. His
twin brother Darnell Reed,
30, also of Stone Mountain,
was found guilty on charges
of armed robbery, false im
prisonment, aggravated as
sault, and two counts of pos
session of a firearm during
the commission of a felony.
Jurors also found Christin
Scales, 24, of Atlanta, guilty
of armed robbery.
The convictions stem
from an incident on Oct. 6,
2021. According to investi
gators, the male victim, who
was not named, met Scales
online and they made plans
to meet so that he could pay
her for sex. When he arrived
at the address on Parkview
Court in Stone Mountain
around 7 a.m., Scales in
structed the man to park
away from the building.
According to investiga
tors, the victim began to feel
uncomfortable and tried to
leave, but then the Reed
brothers emerged from
one of the unit's bedrooms
armed with guns.
"Defendant Donnell Reed
struck the victim with his gun
and demanded the victim's
car keys," stated investiga
tors. "Defendant Darnell
Reed then held the victim at
gunpoint while his brother
and Defendant Scales drove
off in the man's car. The pair
then abandoned the car in a
nearby residential area after
rummaging through it."
While the other two
defendants were gone, the
victim took Darnell Reed by

The 2024 Georgia Golden Gloves boxing tournament
will be held April 5 through 7 at Privi at The Mall at
Stonecrest - a venue that is set to host more boxing events
in the future.
Georgia Golden Gloves—which is a USA Boxing
sanctioned event—is expected to draw hundreds of
amateur boxers to Stonecrest and bring more than $1.6
million into the city and surrounding businesses, according
to a news release.
USA Boxing President Bert Wells said teams will travel
from Nigeria, the Bahamas, Virgin Islands, and throughout
the United States to attend the event - reinforcing that the
event is not just for local boxers.
"We are expecting over 300 boxers for this year's
Georgia Golden Gloves tournament. They will be coming
from throughout the country and even outside of the U.S.,"
said Wells.
Boxers will battle in three boxing rings set up in Privi, a
former Sears building redeveloped into a multi-use space
in the Stonecrest shopping mall. Wells added that he plans
"to host multiple amateur boxing events at Privi."
Wells said hosting a boxing tournament in a mall
could be an opportunity to attract new fans to boxing,
while Stonecrest Mayor Jazzmin Cobble said she sees the
tournament as a potential economic boost for the city.
"With Stonecrest set to host this event along with three
others throughout the year, in collaboration with Sugar
Bert Boxing, we anticipate a remarkable economic impact
exceeding $1.6 million," said Cobble. "These achievements
reflect the success of our proactive approach to economic
development and tourism."
