Volunteer to help animals in need Lifeline Animal Services, the non- profit that oversees DeKalb and Ful ton Animal Services, needs adopters, fosters, volunteers and donations for hundreds of loveable dogs and cats in need. BROOKHAVEN Police host wellness fair Join the Brookhaven Police De partment, city of Brookhaven Parks and Recreation, and local partners for a morning filled with fun and wellness. On Oct. 11 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., attendees can come out to the free Faith and Blue Health, Wellness and Community Fair. The event will be held at Northeast Plaza, 3267 Bu ford Highway NE Suite 740. The event will include: - health and mental wellness resourc es - fitness and nutrition resources - music, snacks, and games - story time and magic show with a special guest for kids - salsa classes The fair is open to everyone. CHAMBLEE Take a free self-defense course Registration is underway for free self-defense classes hosted by the Chamblee Police Department. These classes are open year-round for private groups ages 18 and older. Groups must have a minimum of six people. DECATUR Paper shredding event The DeKalb County Sanitation Division will host a free paper shred ding event on Oct. 18 from 8 a.m. to noon, at the DeKalb County Sanita tion Division's Central Transfer Sta tion, 3720 Leroy Scott Drive, Decatur. Event participants will have an opportunity to responsibly dispose of all types of documents, including sensitive personal documents such as old tax records and legal documents. All documents will be shredded onsite, and each participant will be limited to 10 standard-size boxes of paper. Shredding services will be pro vided by Al Shredding & Recycling. The event is free and open only to DeKalb County residents. Proof of residency may be requested. Coffee Cart volunteers needed Soldiers' Angels in concert with the Atlanta VA Healthcare System an nounces the return of the Coffee Cart at Joseph Maxwell Cleland Atlanta VA Medical Center located at 1670 Clair mont Road in Decatur. Volunteers will brew coffee and provide cups, stirrers, lids, sweeten ers, creamers, napkins, and a healthy snack when available. They will also be responsible for setting up and cleaning the area at completion. Vol unteers can sign up for one or more days to serve. DUNWOODY Afternoon crafts The Dunwoody Library hosts monthly stories and crafts for chil dren ages 5 through 10. Support is provided by Friends of the Dun- woody Library. The event runs on the first Thurs day of each month from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. at 5339 Chamblee-Dunwoody Road. Caffeine and Octane car show Caffeine and Octane is an all- makes and all-models car show that regularly attracts more than 650 muscle, classic, high performance and exotic cars. Attendees will see a new mix of cars each month. The show is centrally located at Perimeter Mall just off 1-285. Caffeine and Octane is a fami ly-friendly event and free to attend for all. PINE LAKE Enjoy LakeFest Pine LakeFest, now in its 23rd year, will be held on the shores of Pine Lake in DeKalb's smallest city the weekend of October 11-12. On both days, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., this family-friendly festival will fea ture a marketplace with handmade work by 40 artists and crafters from all over Georgia and live music by a dozen musicians and bands. There will also be family games and contests at the beach with prizes, street performers, a pet parade, and LakeFest's new Paddle- paloozal—a regatta with a floating parade and boat races on the lake with prizes. STONE MOUNTAIN Help build a community garden On the second Saturday of each month from 9 a.m. until noon, Stone Mountain city staff will welcome volunteers for a community garden workday at 888 Gordon Street. The community garden is located inside of VFW Park and consists of 50 garden plots. STONECREST Plant trees at the Stonecrest Library Volunteers are needed to join nonprofit Trees Atlanta as they plant new trees at the Stonecrest Library to sustain the urban forest. Planting will take place from 9 a.m. to noon on Oct. 18 at 3123 Klon dike Road. Tasks will include digging holes with shovels, untangling roots, mulching, watering and physical activity such as bending, lifting and kneeling. Volunteers should bring gloves and wear clothes and shoes that will get dirty. Trees Atlanta will provide tools. Volunteers under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult. To register and learn more, visit treesat- lanta.org. Meet and learn about wild animals Come out to Atlanta Wild Animal Rescue Effort (AWARE) to meet some cool ambassador animals. AWARE offers tours at 1 p.m. every Saturday and Sunday (weather permitting) at its facility at 4158 Klondike Road in Stonecrest. Attendees can meet tur tles, owls, opossums and more. Tours are free but donations are always welcome to assist AWARE with its mission to rehabilitate in jured and orphaned wildlife and edu cate the public. Visit https://arabiaal- liance.org/ for more information. TUCKER Cruise in on Main Street Tucker Cruise-In is a nonprofit, old-fashioned town meet-and-greet car show located downtown on Main Street. The event includes a wide variety of vehicles, ranging from an tiques to street rods, motorcycles to imports. The Cruise-In will be held Oct. 11. The fun begins at 10 a.m. and ends with the presentation of awards around 1 p.m. There is a nominal $5 registration fee to enter a vehicle.
