They donated more than 300 canned goods to Camden House, the local domestic violence shelter. They also hosted representatives from the Camden County Sheriff’s Office to learn more about their work. County seeking applicants for Aging Services Advisory Council at health clinic The Camden County Board of County Commis sioners is seeking applicants to serve on the Coastal Re gional Commission Aging Services Advisory Council to fill one vacancy. In the case of the cur rent vacancy and according to council bylaws, said ap pointment shall assume the current term and will expire June 30, 2018. The Coastal Regional Commission Area Agency on Aging provides programs to older adults and caregivers regionally with more than 18 service providers throughout the nine-county region. The role of the Aging Ser vices Advisory Council is to conduct public hearings and/ or community forums, rep resent and advocate for the interests of older individuals The Camden County Board of Commissioners is seeking applicants to fill one vacancy on the Camden County Board of Family and Children Services (DFACS). The board plays a vital role in helping to make the Divi sion of Family and Children Services’ programs more meaningful to the families and children they are de signed to serve. Board members, with the help of agency staff, acquire general knowledge of divi sion programs and interpret the objectives of the pro grams to local citizens. Each board member should also address attitudes and perceptions of the com munity toward programs by making recommendations to the county director. The council also assures maxi mum coordination of services to assist older persons to re main independent. The Aging Services Advi sory Council is comprised of volunteers representing se niors, persons with disabili ties and caregivers residing in the Coastal Georgia region. Members of the council are a diverse group of individu als possessing a wide-range of life skills, knowledge and experiences which serve to assist the Area Agency on Aging as it strives to meet the needs of seniors at risk, advo cate for improved services for the elderly and disabled and educate elected officials and others about issues impacting Board members serve without compensation ex cept for the per diem rate es tablished by the Department of Human Resources and re imbursement for travel and other expenses incurred in the performance of their of ficial duties. The term of office for members is five years. The current vacancy is for a term that expires June 30, 2021. Applicants must reside in Camden County; must not have any immediate family members on the staff of the local DFACS office; must not hold elected office; must not receive public assistance; be able to actively participate the elderly and disabled. Getting the flu vaccine is considered the best way to protect oneself, one’s family and the community from the flu. It is recom mended for everyone 6 months of age and older. It takes about two weeks after getting a flu shot for the vaccine to provide the body protection. While getting the flu vaccine is the best way to prevent the flu, there are other things one can do every day to prevent get ting or spreading the flu: • Avoid close contact with sick people. • Those who get sick with a flu-like illness should stay home for at least 24 hours after the fever is gone except to get medical care or for other necessi ties. The fever should be gone without the use of a fever-reducing medicine. MAINOR — Clifford Lee Mainor Sr., aka “Kippy,” of Woodbine passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2017 at 11:11 a.m. in the presence of his heartbro ken family members at UF Health in Jacksonville, Fla. He is preceded in death by his parents; stepmother, Feodosher “Fruit” Mainor; daughter, Gail; siblings, Chris Jr., Wallace, James, Janie, Sandra, Jacob and Lilia. He will be greatly missed and cherished by his wife of 57 years, Joanne V.
