Lyons Main Street Awards
Luray Sharpe Reid Scholarships
Lyons Main Street
awarded the Luray Sharpe
Reid Scholarship to three
recipients Monday night at
Hardware Pizza.
The Luray Reid Sharpe
Scholarship in the amount
of $1000 is awarded to
students who have partici
pated in Tales from theAlta-
maha in their four years of
high school. In addition to
participation, cooperation,
discipline, respect, trust
worthiness, dependability,
good character, truthful
ness and integrity are re
quired.
Tales from the Alta-
maha was canceled in
2020 and 2021. The Tales
Committee discussed the
Scholarship and how these
young folks tried out last
year with the intention of
being in the play, the fact
that they accumulated 550
volunteer/community
service hours from 2017
-2019 each, and that they
would be back this year if at
all possible. The committee
decided that with the time
and effort already put forth,
good intentions and meet
ing all of the other require
ments, they earned their
scholarships!
This year’s seniors are
Campbell Adams, Emma
Creamer and Andrew
Mead. Campbell Adams
has been a cast member
for 9 years and on the Tales
Board for 2 years. She is
graduating from Vidalia
High School and will be
attending SCAD to study
art history or graphic de
sign. Emma Creamer has
been a cast member for
5 years. She is graduat
ing from Toombs County
High School and will be
attending Georgia South
ern to study nursing. An
drew Mead has been a cast
member for 13 years. He
is graduating from Robert
Toombs Christian Acad
emy and plans to attend
Georgia Southern.
Lyons Main Street is
proud to be able to con
tinue with this scholarship
program during these try
ing times. We could not
do it without the gener
ous donations from our
community. It has been
a pleasure working with
these young people over
the years, watching them
grow and take on new roles
in life. One day we hope to
see them return and kick it
up a notch!
Flood
continued from page 1A
five roads in the Toombs
Central area to the Tattnall
County line and down to
Highway 147 on Thursday.
Toombs County Schools
cancelled classes on Friday
because of rising waters on
rural roads.
On Monday morn
ing, the National Weather
Service (NWS) extended
the flood warning for the
Toombs County area. Ear
ly Monday, the Altamaha
River was at 79.3 feet and
expected to crest Monday
afternoon. Flood stage is
74.5 feet. Flooding on the
Altamaha River affected
Toombs, Jeff Davis and
Montgomery Counties.
Warnings also con
tinued for the flooded
Ohoopee River. On Sun
day, the river reached a lev
el of 18.4 feet. Flood stage
is 11 feet. The river was ex
pected to rise to a crest of
18.8 feet by early Tuesday.
The NWS extended
flood warnings through
Tuesday morning for the
Oconee River near Mount
Vernon affecting Treutlen,
Wheeler and Montgomery
Counties.
Before daybreak Mon
day, the river was at 15.9
feet and rising slowly. The
river was expected to rise
to the flood stage of 16
feet during the afternoon
and to fall below flood
stage just after midnight on
Monday. At this point, wa
ters began to extend into
woodlands, pastures and
the natural flood plain and
crept up the boat ramp on
the Wheeler County side
of the river.
Donnie Daniels,
Montgomery County
EMA Director, said Mon
day that the southern end
of the county was underwa
ter. “Three Rivers Lane and
the Altamaha River Road
are underwater and Towns
Bluff is water logged,” he
said. The school system
cancelled classes Fridaybe-
cause of the water hazard
threatening outlying areas,
but classes resumed Mon
day.
Wheeler County EMA
Director Steve Adams said
no roads or residences
were threatened by flood
ing there, although school
administration cancelled
classes on Friday because
school buses would have
to navigate rural roads ren
dered hazardous by con
tinuous rain. Schools were
open Monday.

Meadows Women’s Services Staff
Receives February Daisy Awards
Meadows Health
Women’s Services employ
ees Christy Brocato, Nurse
Practitioner and Certified
Midwife, and Abby Price,
RN/Clinical Supervisor, re
ceived Daisy Awards Tues
day, Feb. 16.
The Daisy Award was
established in memory of
J. Patrick Barnes, who died
at 33 of complications of
Idiopathic Thrombocyto
penic Purpura (ITP), a little
known but not uncommon
auto-immune disease. The
family noticed that during
the course of Patrick’s illness
the extraordinary care he
received from nurses made
a difference not only in his
health but his personal well
being. The family wanted to
recognize the extraordinary
work nurses do daily while
performing other duties in
volved in caring for their pa
tients. The Daisy Award for
Extraordinary Nurses is a
nationally recognized award
that is celebrated across the
country. Recipients from
Meadows become part of an
elite group of professionals
across the nation.
“Both Christy and
Abby are a shining example
of why the Women’s Service
Line at Meadows is second
to none,” said Jeffrey Hard
en, Vice President of Patient
Care Services and Chief
Nursing Officer. “They are
both fully committed to en
suring and improving the
lives of our mothers and in
fants.”
Brocato has been em
ployed with Meadows
since November 2017 and
currently resides in Baxley.
Price has been employed
with Meadows since Febru
ary 2009 and currently re
