VHS Routed By Region Champs In Finale RTCA
* ** 1 continued from page IB
By John IV. Conner
On what was a misera
ble night for fans, and pho
tographers for that matter,
the Region 2-AA Champion
Swainsboro Tigers made you
miserable if you were from
Vidalia.
The Tigers used a quick
defense and speedy and yes,
greedy offense to put a 48-0
whipping on a young and
seemingly shellshocked Vi
dalia team on a cold and
windy field with a cold rain
falling. It wasn’t pretty
The Indians will have a
few days to get ready for a
playoff game against West-
side of Augusta, sort of a re
boot since the Indians were
almost certainly headed to
Eatonton and a game against
unbeaten Putnam County,
the unbeaten Region 4-AA
champions.
Instead, because of a
10-7 upset of Toombs
County by East Laurens, the
Bulldogs were left out in the
cold because of a predeter
mined point deferential be
tween the three teams that
finished in a tie for third
place.
The Region determined
that Vidalia will go as the
third place team, and East
Laurens would get the fourth
spot.
Westside’s Patriots, ob
viously a worthy opponent
at 8-2 overall, finished in sec
ond in Region 4-AA. The
Patriots’ losses were 19-7 to
the region champion Put
nam County War Eagles and
by 23-17 to Lee Chomskis’
Lincoln County Red Devils.
Westside relies on the
quickness and speed of run
ning back Xavier Green;
who’s only 5’8” tall and 160
pounds. Green has ground
out over 1300 yards rushing
this season and scored 15
TD’s for the Patriots.
Vidalia has played West-
side in a 2012 playoff game,
and beat the Patriots 57-0 in
Vidalia.
In order to have a chance
against Westside, the Indians
will have to play much better
than they did Friday night.
Swainsboro beat Vidalia on
the ground, running the ball
48 times for 375 yards. Their
only pass fell incomplete.
Vidalia won the toss and
deferred to the second half. It
took the Tigers only 56 sec
onds to score when quarter
back Ty Adams took off
around the left side of Vida-

In the fourth Powell
scored on a 10-yard run
to increase the lead to 51-
24. Memorial got one
back as they scored on
their next drive on a
4-yard run, but RTCA
was still out in front, 51-
30.
RTCA got two more
touchdowns in the game,
the first on a 39-yard run
28-0 at the end of the first
half.
The next one, an explo
sive 42-yard run by Tarver,
made it 35-0 at the end of the
third quarter.
A 4-yard touchdown
run by Tarver with 9:50 left
in the game, and another
4-yard run by Zacehaeus
Grant ended the scoring
with 1:00 left on the clock.
Offensively, Vidalia was
able to produce only 69
yards of offense on their 29
plays. Bryce Davis was under
constant pressure and was
only able to complete 3-of-
11 for 16 yards with 2 inter
ceptions.
Davis also had 2 runs for
18 yards. Darrell Brown led
the team in rushing with 22
yards on 13 attempts.
Ahmelion Jones had 6
solo tackles and 1 assist to
lead the Indians on defense.
Ronald Pointer had 5 solos
and 2 assists, and Brandon
Beasley and Sam Sapp both
had 4 solos and 1 assist.
Friday’s game will be
played in Augusta at West-
side.

One of few bright spots for the Vidalia Indians in the
first half was this play with Indians Brandon Beasley (#5),
Keyvin Harden (#56), and (#2) Ahmelion Joes gang

on this play.
has defense and ran un
touched for 63 yards to make
it 6-0. Daron Coleman’s extra
point made it 7-0.
Offensively, the Indians
have been able to move the
ball against every team
they’ve played this year.
Against the quick Tigers on a
slick field though, they just
couldn’t get anything going.
After a three and out, it
was Ty Adams again, this
time from 20 yards out.
Coleman’s PAT made it 14-0
with 7:47 still left in the first
quarter.
The Indians still
couldn’t get anything going,
only this time it was worse.
Indian QB Bryce Davis, try
ing to hit the quick out pass,
was picked off by comerback
Domello Jones, who had
nothing but green grass and
goal line in front of him. The
defensive touchdown made
it 21-0 with 5:07 left in the
first quarter.
The next three Tiger
touchdowns were courtesy
of Bryson Tarver, a freshman
who was last seen by J.R.
Trippe fans last season help
ing ruin the middle school
area championship game.
Tarver was responsible
for the next three Tiger
scores. The first one, a 2-yard
run, boosted the score to

to go in the first quarter.
In the second quarter
the Bulldogs got on the
board as Cam Robinson
broke free for a 21-yard
touchdown run to put
Toombs on top. Jesus
Mata added the extra
point for a 7-0 Toombs
lead.
Toombs had another
chance late in the half as
Hayward came up with an
interception with just
over a minute to go. He
returned it to the Falcons 1
24-yard line to set up the
Bulldogs with great field
position. But the offense
couldn't get going and did
not get in before the clock
ran out.
With 6:15 to go in the
third quarter the Falcons
had a 3 3-yard run on a
fourth down play that got
them into the end zone.
They added the extra
point to tie the game at
7-7.
East Laurens then re
covered an onside kick
and began to move the
ball again. They had it
down to the 21-yard line,

Alamo, GA for review by all interested citizens
during normal business hours Monday-Friday
on Tuesday, October 19, 2021. A public hearing
will be held on Monday, November 15, 2021 at

by Stanley, and then En
nis scored on a 45-yard
run. Bowers added the
PAT on both of those,
and the score was 65-30.
RTCA held from
there to take the win, 65-
30 over the Matadors.
With the win RTCA will
enter the GISA State AA
Playoffs as the #8 seed.
That will put them against
#1 Brentwood in the first
round on November 19 at
Brentwood with kickoff

and then had a run down
to the 7-yard line. Toombs
did hold and forced a 25-
yard field goal. A false
start on the Falcons
pushed them back five
yards, but their kicker
drilled the 30-yard at
tempt to give them a 10-7
lead over TCHS with
2:49 left in the third quar
ter.
Toombs was still
down with 4:02 on the
clock as they forced a
punt by the Falcons.
Toombs started their next
drive at their 37-yard line.
With just over two min
utes left Toombs had a
fourth down, and Robin
son broke several tackles
to pick up the first down.
Robinson then got all the
way to the 5-yard line to
set up a first-and-goal.
Morris took it in for the
touchdown, but a flag was
down for holding against
the Bulldogs. That moved
Toombs back to the 15-
yard line. Toombs ended
up having to try for a 30-
yard field goal, but the
ball sailed wide left giving
the Falcons the ball with
just a minute to go.
East Laurens ran out
the clock and took the
10-7 win over the Bull
dogs.
The loss ended the
Toombs season with a re
cord of 4-6 overall and
2-3 in the Region.
