VHA put the first run on the board in the bottom of the second inning. Piedmont jumped in front in the fifth inning with four runs to take a 4-1 lead. Heritage came back to tie the game in the bot tom of the fourth inning at 4-4. Piedmont added a run in the sixth inning, but Heritage answered in the bottom of the frame to tie it back at 5-5. The score stayed that way and forced extra innings. Finally in the bottom of the 10th inning, Heri tage plated a run to take the win, 6-5. Four VHA batters had two hits, Greet Posey, JT Cofield, Luke Moxley, and Dalton Price. Vs. TJ The only loss of the week for VHA came from the Jaguars of Thomas Jefferson on Friday. TJ took the lead with a run in the bottom of the first in ning. They added four more in the third inning and then closed out the game with five runs in the fourth. The Jaguars held in the top of the fifth in ning to win the game by the run rule, 10-0. This week VHA was at Gatewood Academy on Tuesday after presstime. Colmenares Signs With Point By Mike Branch Sports Editor sports 7 advance@gmail.com On Tuesday of last week, Toombs County Lady Bulldogs Soccer standout Anyadi Colmena res signed her letter of in tent to continue her play ing career at Point Univer sity in West Point, GA. Anyadi has excelled as a Toombs County Bulldog and will look to build upon that success as she moves on to play at the next level. Coach Jeremy Moore said, “Anyadi has worked for years to get to this point. She deserves every bit of this scholarship. She committed to working to wards this goal of receiving a scholarship and she earned it. I’m so proud of her and it has been an ab solute joy to be her coach the past 4 years and watch her grow and mature as a player and as a young lady. I’m excited to watch her go do great things for the Point women’s soccer pro gram. I know she is going to do well there.” Coach Randy Douglas of Point University added, “She can score goals. She has the ability to take play ers on, and she is also an unselfish player. That will really bode well for us. We are replacing our top three leading scorers from last season, and we expect Any adi to come in and take the place of what we had.” Colmenares stated, “The main reason I chose Point University was the team itself. The girls really made me feel welcomed. I just loved the campus and the coaches, and really felt like I would fit in best there of all the places I could have chose from. I must thank Coach Fletcher and Coach Moore for all that they have done. They have helped me every step of the way and really made me the player that I am today. I have to thank my family for putting me in the soccer program to begin with. I never thought I would be signing for college soccer. I also want to thank my teammates for making my time here really enjoyable.” By Mike Branch Sports Editor sports 7 advance@gmail. com The Eagles of Vidalia Heritage Academy opened up their baseball season last week as they faced off with Treutlen County, Piedmont Acad emy, and Thomas Jeffer son Academy. Heritage won its first two games before falling to the Jag uars on Friday. Vs. Treutlen The Vikings took the early lead in the bottom of the first inning with three runs, but those were the only runs they scored in the game. Heritage picked up a run in the top of the third inning and then two more in the fourth to tie the game at 3-3. The game remained tied through the seventh inning, send ing it to extra innings. In the top of the eighth in ning the Eagles of Heri tage put together a rally and scored five runs to jump ahead 8-3.
